Shades of Malibu Blue: Alyssa Bates & John Webster Wedding

It seemed like there should be a thread for Alyssa and John's wedding, since there were separate ones for Zach/Whitney and Chad/Erin, and I know there's the "When is Alyssa Bates' wedding again?" thread so mods feel free to combine if this is repetitive.

 

Anyway - only one day away! I started looking around different instagram hashtags but so far I only found these photos from the Bates family fan page on Facebook, that include Whitney's burgeoning little bump:

I also cannot wait for this hot mess of a wedding, and am very curious to find out where the unknown destination TWO WEEK honeymoon is going to be (according to Kelly in recent comments). Congressman Webster best not stand to close to the Duggar clan during the reception, lest their magic power to lose elections rubs off on him!

My $$ is on the Caribbean for the honeymoon spot, and I can see Alyssa rocking a normal swimsuit when the cameras aren't on her.

PS Doesn't "Malibu Blue" sound like a latenight softcore porn series on Cinemax?

Hah thanks, I was trying to think of something good because I was the one who made "800 Invitations and Counting" for Erin's wedding, felt I had to redeem that. This seemed boring in comparison, maybe someone can think of something more exciting! I was also thinking of doing something playing with the fact that it's on the same day as the Kimye wedding

I'm very curious to see if Gothard is going to make an appearance. On one hand, I can imagine that John's father wouldn't want to be within 20 miles of him, due to the nature of the criminal behavior of which he's being accused and the resulting nuclear fallout--but on the other hand, Alyssa is fundie royalty and she's made a good match for herself. I'm not sure Gothard could resist.

I watched one of those episodes of My Big Fact Gypsy Weddings that TLC has recently and it was about these two girls having a twin wedding. Their colors were Hot Pink and Malibu Blue as well and god those dresses, as per the show, were tacky as all hell. It reminded me of Alyssa's. Eugh.

Maybe I'm close minded on decor, but those just are not wedding colors. No way.

Have we seen the actual dresses? The colours definitely wouldn't be my own choice, but I always think it's great when fundie girls are free to show their personalities and have some fun. Alyssa is one I really think might go fundie lite so I'm looking forward to see what happens after she's married.

Oh my god. I just snorted through my laughter. I hadn't even thought of it that way.

My ex-boyfriend picked out wedding colors for us -- he wanted sapphire blue and ruby red. He also didn't want me to wear a white dress, but a deep blue one and he wanted a red tie for himself for and carnations in his buttonhole or whatever it is that suits have. He wanted a winter wedding and wedding/engagement rings set with rubies and sapphires rather than diamonds. It honestly wasn't a bad idea -- a bit non traditional -- but I think it could have been done well (provided the jewel tones were deep enough that it didn't look like a misplaced 4th of July). And I didn't have enough of an opinion to disagree; if wanted to plan the wedding decor, by all means. But alas, we split, and that wedding will never be.

I wish this one was livestreamed. I predict Bill Gothard will be a no-show. I think he'll make an appearance for Jill's nuptials. I also suspect the Rodriqueses to sit this one out, and save the next road trip to Jill, too. I think Alyssa & John would have a good time on a cruise. There are tons of discounts for FL residents, and I hope they'd take advantage.

I love the title! And I have a Pilates class tomorrow morning, but once I get home, I am all over this thing. So glad others are as excited as I am!

I am curious as to the taste factor, because I also think the colors are atrocious, but I've found Alyssa to be the consistently best dressed of the Bates' girls, and to have a lot of very classy aspirations per her main Pinterest page. We'll see.

And ViolaSebastian, you crack me up! You better be all over this wedding tomorrow.

My bet is that fundie lite is already a foregone conclusion. My only question is how long it will take and to what degree it will happen.

I also predict that we'll see a more unique (but still modest :roll: ) dress from Alyssa than the typical t-shirt on a ball gown skirt of so many fundie ladies--a style I like to refer to as the 'Hane's Her Way Bridal Collection.' She seems more style conscious than Erin or her sisters and I think her dress will reflect that. Someone mentioned that she should rock some hot pink or malibu blue high heels with her dress, which I think would look incredible and be tons of fun.

I think Mikey might have a more "mature" style, but it's already been hinted that at least some of her desires will be overruled for her wedding.

I'm going to be interested to see the differences in the Bates Girls Vs Duggar Girls wedding styles. The Duggars, while still sheltered, have had a lot more "experiences" than the Bates Girls have had.

I've always gotten an overwhelming teeny-bopper impression of Alyssa as well. The gum chewing, hot pink, all the exclamation points in her Instagram and Pinterest comments. And let's not forget the subtitle on her wedding board...

Don't get me wrong--it's her wedding and it's wonderful that she's choosing colors that she likes. That said, I personally feel that the colors are more 'Senior Prom Love 4EVAR' than a wedding. I sometimes forget that Alyssa is 19--19! For goodness sakes--she IS a teeny bopper!
