After seeing the girl speak/stand close to a boy and then "look" at two boys on a motorcycle she was brought inside, beaten, and had acid poured on her face and body by both her mother and father. She wasnt taken to the hospital until the next day and was found to have burns over 35% or 50%, depending on the source, of her body.

This will apparently be the first prosecution (although I have no idea what the penalties are) for such an honor killing. Apparently they only recently passed a law saying you cant burn your daughters for violating your honor.

While I'm glad they've been arrested. I wont hold my breath to see if they're convicted. There are apparently other girls in the family. I have no idea what happens to them now that both parents are in custody.

Sadly, I seriously doubt they will be convicted unless for a lesser crime with no jail time. And, I also worry about the other girls in the family.

Life in prison apparently. I don't think this prosecution will make a difference. It's going to to take a long, sustained, education programme to beat this attitude in Pakistan (and other countries). It might help if the imans started to deplore honour killings.

Life in prison IF you can get a conviction. Is there a jury system? Do the judges support the law or are they religious props? I have little faith that this will be any different than the southern lynching trials in the south. All white juries and a sympathetic jurist...

The sad thing is that so many middle eastern countries have laws against honor killing (to a certain degree) but the system just turns the other way and gives a slap on the wrist if they scream "Sharia law." Even if the parents are convicted, they're not going to get punished severely-a fine and maybe several months in prison but that's about it. It's really sad and disgusting that this exists but until the people start enforcing the laws, nothing is going to change, especially if those radicals are still around.
