Why anybody would want to be part of a religious body that gets into this kind of power-tripping and infighting is beyond me. I totally agree with the poster who said that Catholic excommunication seems a minor step in comparison with this crap.

It's important to keep the Epstein saga in the public eye. In one of

hundreds of misuses of Christian terms in a nominally Christian setting, Doug

calls the exclusion and blacklisting of an entire family because of personal

disagreements "excommunication."

The real definition of excommunication is exactly what the word says:

Exclusion of a member from the sacrament of communion (aka the. Eucharist, Lords

Supper, etc., because the member refuses to repent of sin. The practice

is one of caring and love, as Christianity traditionally holds that a person who

takes communion without repenting is taking it to her damnation.

The excommunicated member is encouraged to attend worship and to

remain active among the other congregants because, well, if she is barred

from hearing the Word preached in love, how will that encourage her to

realize that she needs to repent?

Doug Phillips - how can he sleep at night?

MamaJunebug, don't forget. While Doug did excommunicate the Epsteins in the traditional sense of the word, he also declared that they should be treated as "publicans and heathens" (which in his world tranlates to "like shit!"). That's where the blacklisting came from.
