I think a lot of fundies tend over romancitize past eras. I remember Bria's comments. I remember Gil Bates saying on Primetime that in past eras larger families were poorer but were happy. I rolled my eyes at that comment because my grandmother and other older people have said that being a large poor family during the depression was miserable at times.

Yep. My grandmother's mother was widowed when her husband was killed in a hunting accident in the mid 1920s. My great-grandmother had three young daughters already (my grandmother was 5 and the oldest) and was pregnant with her fourth. Many people I've run into think it was some sort of romantic, Little Women-esque life. Rather, my grandmother worked as a cleaning lady and she and the girls bounced between relatives' homes for years. My grandmother and great-aunts are all still alive, in their early 90s and late 80s, and they really, truly do not like each other, to put it politely. Poverty didn't pull them together, and when you hear the vitriol with which they talk about one another, the phrase "ladylike passivity" does not come to mind.

Also, does anyone transpose the first letters of Gil Bates and read it as Bill Gates? Talk about your non-Freudian slips.

If he was in fact looking at what non-fundies would consider porn I guarantee he was wanking as well.
