Ah the life - Modesty and a Weapon

I think the 'Lifers get their home schoolin', gun-totin' ways from their Daddy. Here's his political statement from his "Jeff Reins for Tarrant County Texas Precinct Chair 4121" Facebook page:

Here is an answer to my question by Eric Erickson.

It is easy in the face of what happened last night to sound or become defeatist. You mustn’t.

Freedom needs you now more than ever. The fight has only just begun. But we must be clear what the strategy is and what the battle plan looks like.

Last night the Democrats voted to put people in jail who have no insurance, raise the costs of health care, destroy the federal government’s bond rating, keep unemployment high, and kill forever the mythological creature known as the pro-life Democrat.

On Friday, Rush Limbaugh said we should remember that there is a difference between the Democrats and Republicans. That is true. We saw it. But we need to be crystal clear on something — the Republican leadership remains accommodationist and fearful of being labeled the ‘party of no.’

Ladies and Gentlemen, I submit to you again that it is not enough to just throw out the Democrats in favor of Republicans. We must throw out the Democrats and replace them with the right kind of Republicans — conservatives who actually are conservative. And then we must insist that these newly elected Republicans not settle for the status quo in leadership. What is now need not be left in place.

Already we have a few Republicans positioning themselves in grand theatrics to call for full repeal of Obamacare. But these same Republicans in the past have talked about the good parts of the bill and how repeal should be measured. The only way to ensure today’s rhetoric turns into future consistent actions is to surround these Republicans with true conservative warriors.

Friends, if we are going to destroy the Democrats, we must first build up an army of real conservatives in Congress. Half measures, Democrat-lite, and men who compromise in favor of more government must be unacceptable.

Let me be blunt: any Republican who says we will repeal and replace will themselves be replaced. We want repeal period.

This is not to say we will not offer up our own ideas, of which there are many. This is to say that right now there is no consensus on what to replace this monstrosity with, so instead of nuancing just promise to repeal it. We don’t need cute and clever politicians right now, we need a commitment to repeal Obamacare.

Now, here is what we must do. The time for choosing is over. The time for fence sitting is at an end. If you are committed to the cause of freedom, if you are in it for the fight, if you want to win, you need to listen closely.

We need to support the conservative candidates I’ve listed below. We can shift the Senate to the right. We can put some of our more squishy Republicans in awkward positions by pairing them with another member of their state delegation who shines conservatively and brightly. This is our best chance to get real conservatives, not capitulators. This is our best chance to get men who will stand up with Jim DeMint and fight unapologetically for the American experiment. This is our time, but we must stand up and fight.

March

Mike Lee (UT)

If you live in Utah, show up Tuesday at your local caucus, become a delegate to the State Convention, and cast your vote for Mike Lee. Remember, Bob Bennett’s alternative health care plan is just as bad as Obamacare, complete with individual mandates, federal funding of abortion, etc.

May

Rand Paul (KY)

Marlin Stutzman (IN)

Pat Toomey (PA)

June

Chuck DeVore (CA)

Danny Tarkanian (NV)

August

Ken Buck (CO)

Marco Rubio (FL)

These candidates will deliver change we can believe in. I know a few of you have preferred candidates, but I trust this list. It is not comprehensive of all the races. But these are the races we can win if we rally now. Don’t hold off support either. Ken Buck needs your help this very day if he is to have what will get him through his race.

We can do it if we commit to it. I’ll give up Starbucks to fund these guys. I’ll get in my car and go help on the ground.

Once we have secured in the primaries an army of unapologetic conservative Republicans,we take the fight to the Democrats in every district. We preach the conservative gospel of individual liberty and choice and point out the only choice the Democrats want you to have is whether or not to kill a baby. We preach free markets, free people, and free voices. We remind the people that it is not the tyranny of big things that is going to get us, but the tyranny of small things done over time by the Democrats that destroy our bond rating, keep unemployment high, keep job growth low, and more and more bind Americans to the whim of the state.

There is a God, there is good, and there will be a last day. And on that last day we will win. Victory comes though we know not when. So we must be happy warriors until the end — warriors willing to fight with a smile and willingness to sacrifice for freedom.

We have not yet begun to fight.

I would recommend a crossbody bag - something like this: http://www.target.com/p/Mossimo-Supply- ... A-13540352

It's a bit more stylish and hands-free!! (It will defraud the men, though, becuase the strap goes between your boobs. Oh no!!! )

I can vouch for the above. No laughing matter. A devout fellow who works as a meatcutter at my corner market once said that it was just temptatious as heck "when these women came in with shoulder bags across their bodies because of the way they cut across the bosoms and distract" him.

I went in there once, sick as a dog, wearing two or three t-shirts. All I wanted was a pound of braunschweiger to go with my Lipton chicken noodle soup. Remember, 2 or 3 tees, and believe me, at this point in my life and on my bod, that's the responsible thing to do ... and butcher-boy couldn't keep his eyes on my face. Suffice to say, I've gotten to where I shop when I know the lady meatcutters are working.

Also, the Ahthelifers, as I fondly call them, are somewhere in Texas. That doesn't narrow it down much, granted. I want to say they're near Dallas but they may be San Antonians, comme Dougie.

I went to a football game recently wearing, yes, a fanny pack. No, I didn't have a gun inside. Just my wallet and some sun screen. I didn't want to carry a purse.

So, my FJ fashionistas, what would you recommend instead?

Belt bags are in!

Ohio recently passed a law that allows you to carried concealed weapons into a bar. (Because alcohol and guns are the greatest combination EVAH!) My husband owns a few guns and has his CCW and even he thinks this law is absolutely nuts.

I read an interview with a someone who was quoted saying something along the lines of "If I have my family in a bar and someone walks in to and starts firing, I have the right to protect my family!"

Okay, first of all, maybe we shouldn't be bringing our family into the bar? And second - this isn't the flipping wild west, why are people imagining these imaginary gun fights? If someone walks into an establishment and starts shooting, I'm going to take my kids and duck and cover. Pulling out a gun is the quickest way to get fucking shot.

But why? I sort of get it if you're in the outback where there are bears or other wildlife, but to the farmer's market, the grocery store, on vacation??? What are they afraid of?

They are afraid of gangs, mostly. Where I live, there is a huge gang problem. However, it is sequestered to one side of town and really only becomes a problem at night. If you live on the west side, you are actually safer than the average American provided you stay away from the bad side of town at night.

Ironically, these women all live on the westside, or in ritzy bedroom communities where the only crime is an occasional stolen lawn gnome.

Yup even the feminazi's around here pack. I think they pack because their afraid of the 'wingers IMHO.

I live in a city rife with violence (there is a shooting almost daily...last night's wasn't fatal) and have no interest in carrying, even on public transportation. My actual 'hood is quite safe, save the occasional car break-in, but even ladies living out in the 'hood choose not to carry. Why? Because the tendency of crime is about 98% male on male with exceptions for jealous boyfriends and the occasional innocent bystander who is caught in crossfire...a little boy, just shy of 2 years old was taken off life support last week; his parents were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Women who live in BFE and carry is fucking redonkoolis. It's nothing more than a political statement for 2nd amendment rights (I know feminazis with a libertarian streak...all live in the boonies). They're no better than the Duggars politicizing a miscarriage.

is it just me who was thinking

well Im sure I could fit a katana under a frumper

or perhaps a morningstar

but a lay-dee-like one, you know

perhaps even prettied up with some pink glitter

I suspect this is what comes from living in a country with strict gun laws

I think they carry in case they encounter a prospective groom...they can force him to the alter at gunpoint....peaceful methods of courting don't seem to be working for these fundie ladies...

I live in Australia, where Those Evil Gubment People Took Our Guns. Actually, the only people in Australia who have guns are farmers, hunters, and police officers - about 5.2% of the population, compared to 25% for the US, according to Wikipedia. Even before the gun buyback scheme, carrying for self defense just wasn't a thing. So the US's love affair with guns looks kind of alien. I think we can all get together on the fanny pack, though. Except that Australians would call that a bumbag - 'fanny' means vagina here.

Here in the UK the police don't carry guns, even, which led to the scene in Hot Fuzz in which a rural police officer tells one from the London Met that 'it's the country, everyone and their mums are packing round here'. When asked to elaborate, he says 'Farmers ... and farmers' mums'

I'm a city girl, and even though I grew up in Canada I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a real gun.

Holy Shit, it's like he's planning a genocide on Democrats. His plans read like war strategy. These people freaking scare the hell out of me. And they have followers. I mean, damn, I don't care for Republicans, but I'm not advocating taking them out by any means necessary. And he even hates the reasonable Republicans too - yes, let's only let the crazy ones in the government.

Again, I can't stress enough how much these people scare the hell out of me.

My uncle killed himself with a shotgun, and my Dad was the one who found him. They were both hunters, but after that my Dad gave his shotgun and never hunted again (he stuck to fishing).

I can count on one hand the time I've seen a gun as well.

If you have a habit of carrying only when you are alone, when you do go somewhere with your father or husband, you'll be unarmed and if you have to separate temporarily, say at the grocery store or something your habit produced an unarmed scenario.

A poorly parsed sentence from a SAHD age 32.

Because the grocery store is such a dangerous place and all....

A purse with the strap across your chest, so as to draw attention and defraud. ;)

? I'm pretty sure they don't the vast majority of the time. Am I wrong on this?

ETA: Now I am questioning myself. I've seen the police with guns, but I'm sure I thought most of them weren't armed most of the time. Hmm.

The police officers I've seen in Belfast do carry handguns and I assume they do so throughout NI. I know Belfast police (from what I can see) also carry a taser and what I think is pepper spray.

Really? I suppose it makes sense, but I had always assumed they didn't seeing as only the special handgun trained squads carry them in the rest of the UK. Heck, the Olympic shooting team has to go to France to train with their handguns because there are so many restrictions on them!
