What's with the fundie gun culture?

I do work in the "Operation Save America" and other anti-abortion group spaces.  The groups seem to be increasingly militarizing - having training sessions with weapons, posing for photos with weapons, etc.  I'd be interested in hearing from ex-fundies on how worried I should be.  While there's nothing all that surprising about people with an apocalyptic world view arming up for war, it doesn't seem to fit with the whole "Christian" thing.
