Wide World of Sports

So many of my late Saturday afternoons when I was growing up....

When I was a kid we got five channels and if something happened to the President or he had something important to say there wasn't really anything on then.  I  just remember Wide World being on the TV so many Saturday afternoons growing up - I believe my dad liked to watch it before heading to the barn to do the evening work.  This was all before 24 hour sports networks like ESPN which gave people their sports fixes instead of Wide World.

Forever remembered for the “Agony of Defeat” guy(Slovenian ski-jumper Vinko Bogotaj).  I still can’t believe he got out of with just a mild concussion(some sources also say a broken ankle).

Fun fact:  When Bogotaj was invited to WWoS’s 20th anniversary show, he had no idea why, since he’d long since retired from the sport and was now living an Average-Joe life in his hometown.  When he was introduced, he received a standing ovation, and several celebrities(including Muhammad Ali)asked for his autograph.
