Snakes aren't detestable at all. They serve a purpose in nature, and if you leave them alone, they'll leave you be as well. So let's leave the snakes, elephants and other useful animals to themselves.

Love the cockroach idea. I chose snakes because I absolutely cannot cope with them. Eels give me the eebiejeebies too!

As apt a symbol as I agree they are, I can't vote for them, because I believe the cockroaches will outlast all other species.
