A little something to lighten the mood around here. Would your current church or place of worship be fundie approved why or why not?

My church would definitely not be fundie approved since us ebil Catholics are going to hell and are idol worshippers and we have no set dress code/group think.

No, we have Sunday School and youth groups. And sometimes women boldly get up the stage and say stuff. In front of the drums.

I attend The Church Of Hockey year round, every weekend and sometimes a weeknight so we are pretty devout. Not to mention the psyhic/ witchy stuff, so I am going to go with NO.

I'm Catholic too. So, no, not fundie approved.

I've seen strippers in my church. I can only imagine how that would end if they walked in the IFB church down the road instead.

Nope. My church allows women speakers and preachers. They have Sunday School and youth events. EBil devil drums and regularly plays secular music before the service. The church is active in the community, but not in a COME TO JESUS way, in a what can we do to help way.

Mr. Inky and I love the church even though we only make it every other week or so. Lovely third shift lifestyle.

new post from xDreamerx

Definitely not. Anglicans are too close to the ebil Catholics, plus the witchy stuff, plus I've gone to University and have a grand total of 3 skirts.

I'm Presbyterian so you'd think so but we're not THAT kind of Presbyterian . . . I've learned more about Calvin and the elect and TULIP from reading this board than I ever learned in confirmation class. We definitely did not talk about that stuff. Ever.

Also you can wear pants to church and no one cares, we have graded Sunday school and choirs, and we have youth group. Nary a guitar in sight except for the jazz band once or twice a year (the minister plays lead) and sometimes on Youth Sunday. Yes, that's right, we let the boys AND the girls preach. And their headships don't have to approve their speeches first.

Currently on Sunday mornings I attend "The Church of a Cup of Coffee, a Muffin, and a Few Games of On-line Scrabble". It is not fundie approved.

Growing up I was ELCA Lutheren. Also not fundie approved, way to liberal.

I have been known to plan weekends around Greek Orthodox church festivals *drool* And, no, my beloved UU is nowhere near fundie-approved. One of our fundies referred to Beacon Press, the UU's publishing company, as a "radical atheist" outfit.

I don't have a regular church, but sometimes I go to my mom's Episcopal church. The rector is female and half the congregation is gay or lesbian. The church marched in the local Pride parade and had a booth at the Pride festival. Oh, and the guy who played Jesus in the church pageant is a gay man. So no, that one would definitely not be fundie approved.

I also go to my brother-in-law's church on occasion, usually when there's something important going on involving one of both of my nieces. This church is Southern Baptist, but I wouldn't put it in the fundie camp. Maybe fundie lite. They have Sunday school and a church nursery for the babies (my older niece helps out there). In the summer, they have Vacation Bible School and they run a preschool year-round. They sing contemporary Christian worship music that isn't exactly Christian rock, but it could be called Christian pop or Christian country, depending on the song. One time, a girl sang Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel." The women wear pants. The church is located in a somewhat impoverished area, so they do a lot of community outreach. Oh, and once a year the kids get to take over and do an entire Sunday service. My niece got to be the pastor and preach the sermon. The closest to fundie I've experienced at this church was one autumn they passed out a newsletter (IIRC, it was from Focus on the Family) about whether or not to celebrate Halloween. Yet even then, it left the decision up to the parents.

We go to a United church or Quaker meeting, depending on where we live at the time. That, plus the herbalist/ witchy stuff, plus I don't wear skirts unless .... never. Well, you'd pretty much guess, no.

new post from O Latin

Nope. I'm pretty sure they would have a problem with the way we sneak alcohol into choir practice in our water bottles.

Definitely not. We have Sunday School and kid's worship. Women wear pants. We also have a praise band and sing *gasp* Christian rock songs.

My church is conservative for its denomination and I'd even go so far as to call it "fundie-lite". However, it's still within the PC(USA) and we even have women teached co-ed adult Sunday school, so you bet we're not fundie-approved.

I have a poster sized flow chart outlining the hierarchy of the Church of Hockey. It includes our rink director as a Cardinal and much other madness...

Oh definitely not. We divide our time between the Episcopal church where my girls (decided for themselves) to be baptized and the Unity Church on the other side of town. Both churches have women ministers or associate rectors and both are gay friendly. I live in Duggar/Walmart country and these two churches drive fundamentalists of all sects absolutely nuts.

Oh no. We're ELCA Lutherans who have women pastors and ordained gay and lesbian preachers too. We have a children's sermon every Sunday where the kids go up to the altar and get a lesson and a treat. We share the peace with everyone and hug and smooch and just have a good old time. We serve wine at communion every Sunday.

Our pastor worships at the feet of the San Francisco Giants and has been known to wear his collar over his Giants sports shirt. We wear jeans and dresses. We love to sing new and old songs.

We're an old congregation who are pretty darn tolerant.

Haha. Nope. We have Sunday School, youth group, female pastors, drums, electric guitars, and most of the congregation shows up to Sunday service in blue jeans.

I'm in the congregation of Sunday Night Improv Comedy. So no, until the fundies decide that God likes laughing.

NOT fundie approved. Our choir director is gay. Our youth leader a lesbian. Our pastor is female. Women often participate in worhip and lead groups, workshops, classes right along with men.

NOT fundie approved.

Well, I don't go to church, being a "heathen" and all. But my mother's church would definitely NOT be fundie approved. The reason? Well let's see... the last Pastor, he ended up cheating on his wife with the most homely, desperate woman in the entire congregation. This resulted in the Pastor losing his job of course, continuing his secret obsession with porn, divorcing his wife and moving out of their home (they had two children). Even more scandalous? Many people in the community and congregation KNEW about this affair, yet never told the wife until CHRISTMASTIME!

*I really couldn't make this stuff up*

The current pastor wouldn't be fundie approved. While he makes his children and wife dress in frumpers and have long hair, he lets ONE of his daughters go to "regular" school which of course would be frowned upon by Fundies.

The ladies in the church wear jeans, gossip and listen to "Contemporary Christian Music" ala Amy Grant (sinful, I know!).

I either go to Catholic church, so no, or a fairly 'high' Anglican church which has several vicars, one of whom is female. So again, no. Also they have 'children's church' so it would fail the 'family-integrated' requirement. Oh and the translation of choice is not the KJV, so they wouldn't like that either.

Fundie approved? Not a chance! But I did just do a fairly good imitation of a keeper at home this morning: blackberry crepes, fresh whipped cream & summer berry tea for breakfast, with extra crepes frozen for later in the week. They were wonderful and Daddy Maxwell & his ideas about food can kiss my manicured foot!

Is it being a keeper at home when your husband away being manly and fighting in the woods a thing? Because I spent last night baking cookies and muffins and I'll be baking bread soon today (not looking forward to cleaning the kitchen, I tell ya). I feel so helpmeetish, excepting that it's a devotional activity for Hestia!

new post from Triplet3

No - my family's church is Church of England. While it isn't 'high', it isn't 'low' either. I suppose fundies *might* like the music (it's based around a traditional robed boys and men's choir and a girl's choir in the same tradition, both of which sing wonderful 'classical' sacred music), but I doubt they'd like anything else. The vicar is a woman, the church is not patriarchal in the slightest and is very tolerant, women can wear what they want, evolution etc. is fully accepted as the 'how' of God's continuing creation (in fact when it was the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth, the church held a special celebratory evensong!), etc. etc.

Totally not. I don't go to a church, i go to a synagogue. Who has a female cantor. Who leads services when the Rabbi can't.

My parents church would DEFINITELY not be approved. They're bead counting idol worshiping cannibal Catholics.

I go to the Church of Spend Time with my Family. So, probably not. I spend Monday thru Friday at work for 10 hours a day. Saturday and Sunday are my days with my family. I don't want to waste time sitting on my ass in church listening to someone pontificate. I want to spend that time with my son and my husband. I feel it's a much better use of what little free time I have.
