The fact that women need people escorting them into the clinics because of rabid protesters is insane. I remember watching the movie Juno where one classmate protests outside a clinic - I thought it was over the top and that no one would do it in real life. How wrong I was! I also thought the sex ed in Mean Girls was an exaggeration. Also I can for not my life understand why anyone would tell children that if they have too much sex with too many people, they are like used gum. Disgusting.

We do have religious nutjobs here as well, always a few demonstrating at Pride, on Friday evenings (because people party and apparently it is sinful) and such (there is a "Jesus bus" with a dozen of hateful bigots in it that turns up at big events, it's a running joke here that if your event is big/"sinful" enough to attract the bus, it's successful.). But abortion services are provided at regular hospitals and I've never heard of any pro-fetus picketing. It makes me grateful to live here.

His teeth need to be realigned 2 inches to his left. I am sure this is not what they expected with all the money and pain of oral surgery and orthodontia. One of mine ended up with misaligned teeth after orthodontics also, though nothing as noticeable as time-share salesman. Long story - it wasn't fixed and it still burns me to this day. Nice smile but off-center. Argghh, how it riles me 25 years later. I keep it to myself (well, and now you), so as not to make said offspring self-conscious. 

Edit to add; time-share salesman needs his moral compass realigned more than his teeth.

Late to the discussion, but this brings back a memory that I still can't understand. Mr. Butt injured his back at work in 2002. After multiple doctors appointments, specialists, etc, it was determined he needed back surgery. In order for Workman's Comp to pay for it, he had to see their doctor and have the surgery approved. So we went to the doctor who approved the surgery, then asked if we had the Medical Disability Retirement forms. When we ask what she was talking about, she said that she would sign so Mr. Butt could medically retire and collect his full pay for the rest of his life (Mr. Butt was 44 at the time). Mr. Butt told her that he fully intended to go back to work when he was able and she was astounded. She said she had never seen anyone who wanted  to go back to work. She actually tried to talk him into medically retiring and never returning to work. He told her that he would reassess his situation after the surgery and make the decision then. Six months after his surgery, he returned back to work for the next 5 years and finished out his 20 years and retired. We could be making about 3 times as much money per month had he medically retired, but it seemed so dishonest. When a doctor tries to help you scam the system, you know things are bad.

Yes, which means unless there is a second phase of surgery or ortho (which I highly doubt) his teeth aren't going to be moving significantly, if it all. He has a tooth where a gap should be directly under his nose. Makes everything offset from center. Because I am a caring and empathetic individual, I could almost feel badly for him. I know what it's like to pay a LOT of money to a professional and come out with unacceptable results. But I try not to squander my good will, so sorry time-share salesman, not today. 

Also, I endeavor to mostly steer clear of BEC situations and yet here I am BEC-ing it up to high heaven, on Easter of all days. Who cares what his teeth look like. Dude has other serious issues.

I don't think Derick's off-centre smile is the end of the world. It's not something I would typically notice, or if I did, it would be endearing or just not noteworthy. Derick's biggest issue looks-wise, I think, was when he had that really scruffy, unwashed, greasy look going on, and he also looked alarmingly thin. I'm not sure what was going on there - if he was experiencing health problems, or just not really caring about appearance/hygiene that much - but these days he looks healthier, cleaner, and like a pretty average, boring dude. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, for me at least, his teeth issue was accentuated by the rest of his appearance and it all contributed to making him look kind of 'off', but now I barely notice it unless someone points it out.

I also feel weird talking about his appearance this much. I will say that, while I immensely dislike him, I feel bad for him if he shelled out a lot of money for dental work for cosmetic purposes and it was botched. And I do kind of wonder if there's some animosity toward Jill's family there. We know how much of an emphasis they put on having perfect smiles. It's hard not to wonder if they 'encouraged' Derick to have surgery for cosmetic purposes. If it were me, and I caved and ended up with a bunch of issues, I'd be royally pissed.

I'm not gonna lie, that midline is killing me. Omg.  If he had braces on and I had the necessary ortho stuff, I could fix that, safely.  It's so easy.  I'll never understand.   His shitty attidude is #1 on my list.  Midline a close second.  Sorry, dental person problems.  Yes, I'm judging.

Maybe one of his kids will say something. When my cousin’s daughter was probably 4 she said to my cousin’s wife, “Nanny has yucky teeth.” I mean, my aunt kinda does. I know she avoided seeing a doctor for like a decade so she might have avoided the dentist as well. Sometimes kids will say true things that are really rude and it’s hard not to laugh. I’d love for Izzy to say. “Papa looks like a tool.” or maybe he can say it in Spanish so his parents won’t understand him.

So much wrong with his outfit. The suit is a terrible colour and the pants look to be 3 sizes too big. I get that he's long and lean but you can and should get the pants taken in. Jana was too busy? Then there is the hideous tie. Which is also too wide for a guy as thin as him. Gross. Jill's skirt is terrible.

Does somebody have a good before/after jaw surgery photo? I'm a bit confused as to what he had done as I don't remember his teeth being so misaligned when we first met him?

Derick’s looks are the least of his problems. If he came off as a kind, gentle soul who loved everyone and just wanted to make people smile, we wouldn’t be talking about his looks. If he looked like Jeremy, he would probably get more favorable views since Jeremy believes and spouts the same crap but he gets  a pass a lot of time because he was first to let a Duggar wear pants and he is better looking. Honestly, to me they seem to be the same type of person holding the same ugly views making them both unattractive.
