FFS Lawson, you are 25 1/2 years old. Get a job and quit playing cowboy like a 10 year old.  [and I'm sorry, but saying that his "job" is "singer-songwriter" is an insult to every aspiring young person in Nashville who is busting their ass waiting tables and performing for free and/or tips.]

I hate defending Lawson, but doesn't he own a lawn care business? I remember an episode where he was teaching Tori and Carlin how to lawn mow and weed wack. The girls behaved quite horribly in that episode.

Lawson's IG is starting to drive me nuts.  The underlined bible passages.  Ugh.  I get it Lawson, I get it.  You not only read the bible but it impacts your life SO MUCH, and you JUST HAVE to tell EVERYONE what the good word has shown  you.  I don't see any of the other fundies showing off their bible reading and reflections Lawson, just saying.

Also, my IG feed is hysterical.  The most frequent posters are this annoying chick from high school that looks for attention with too many posts with too many hashtags, Lawson with his IG stories that veer between self promoting, borderline nike fundie porn, and severely underlined bible passages, and then my very flamboyant cousin who is young and is experimenting with "artistic"/ "controversial" poses.  So I get Lawson stoking his fanbase/stroking his ego then I get a bunch of pictures of my cousin in bizarre make up posing with a stuffed animal in dramatic gestures then there's John Morton working on yet another house.  Followed by twelve gratitude/what I ate for breakfast posts with a million hashtags.  It's actually very bizarre to follow.

Does he still own that lawn care business? I figured between helping with tree jobs, posing for Insta and going to Nashville there wouldn't be time to take care of other people's lawns.

Snark off - back when he was younger I kind of admired Lawson for that business. He helped his family big times when buying groceries or by borrowing money to his grifting lazy ass dad.

Perhaps, perhaps not. I have seen zero evidence on his social media in the last few years that he still does any lawn care. If he does own a lawn care business, he certainly never promotes it.

It's quite possible that he keeps a few clients and doesn't look for more.  (I've had several family members with businesses that are service based that do this when they want to ramp down.)  On the show they discussed and showed him training his sibs to help out.  It's quite likely that he keeps his best clients, doesn't look for more, and has his sibs help out when he's not around.  It doesn't help his image a lot if he's shown riding around on a lawnmower.  Now, if he had been working as a ranch hand you bet your bottom dollar that we'd have a million posts about him working.  It also makes him look more successful if he doesn't appear to need the lawnmower money.

I thought it was said somewhere that he had employees.  (do not remember where I read that)

That episode was sometime around October 2016.

I’d guess that episode was probably filmed in the summer. I haven’t seen anything more recent, but I think your guess is a solid one. Hopefully he still has it running in some capacity because he could earn a solid living at that if he wants or needs to.

Barf, I just can't even. Sometimes I wonder if he farts in a room and breathes deep just to smell his own "brand". (I'm specifically referring to the rediculous second picture- nothing says sexy like pursing ones lips in front of a random dirty snowman)

I respect Lawson for his humanitarian efforts and his hard work supporting his family, 100%.
But come on dude, you're what 25 now? Grow up. I'm all for fun and you should be playful and light-hearted for as much of your years as possible, but when you hold him up next to Zach, who is only 5 years older, it's likeeeeeee:my_confused:

This doesn't look like it was at the Bates compound, I wonder if it's at Zach and Whitney's new place, or Evan's parent's, or wherever, who knows, the young fundies go from house to house each day/night of the week it seems.

But since we have seen Zach make fun of/lowkey roast Lawson at every opportunity to remind him of his immaturity, lack of manly responsibilities, and his conclusion that he is just alot smarter than his younger brother/most of his family (that's my own opinion) I'd imagine Zach being on the sidelines for this encouraging Lawson and laughing his ass off, actually him and Whitney both, the clownish younger brother you can't take seriously.

I have a question. I tried to look up Lawson's instagram page, and amongst the results was this one:
 https://www.instagram.com/lawson.bates.rp/
At first I thought, maybe it's just another dude whose name also happens to be Lawson Bates. But the guy in the picures clearly is Lawson. Is this just the insta of a fangirl who's pretending to be married to lawson?

@Marly There’s a whole bunch of people who do role play accounts (that’s what rp stands for)

I find it creepy asf especially because I saw some of them have a pretty large following and it’s obviously people that have no idea it’s a fake. I’ve seen like 3 people call them out but that’s it.

Also, someone from tumblr sent a direct message to  a Jinger role play account by mistake thinking it was Jinger and the person answered from a Jinger persona. It was about why they hadn’t gotten pregnant yet and the person came up with this whole story. Those accounts are so fucking weird.

You said exactly what I have been feeling. I think we can all sit here and pretend how great it is that Lawson looks to have some freedom and is enjoying being "young and free". However, at 25 I was graduated from college and beginning my career. While I was still "young and free",  I had my own home and was beginning to start investing in my future. I was also becoming more mature, in the sense that I wasn't on social media as much and taking endless selfies. I also was beginning to really start acting like and adult. Sure, Lawson is different in the fact that he can't have his own home right now, but he could actually be working and saving for his future. I don't consider his "singing career" viable work right now. Do we have any proof that he actually does paid gigs? Most stuff I see are charity events.

Aside from all of this, he just looks smug and thinks he is hot AF, ya know what I mean? I feel bad for whichever sibling has to constantly take pictures of him man pouting in front of the camera until he has the perfect shot.

Ok I'll stop now. ;) Clearly I have a disdain for his immaturity.

He posted that from Franklin Tenn, south of Nashville, several hours west of the Bates home in Rocky Top. Evan lives north of Nashville.

So if Lawson's alleged "lawn care business" back in East TN is busy with snow removal/sidewalk treating during the current snow, Lawson isn't a part of it.

My great disdain for Lawson is no secret. Preening vanity is not a Christian attribute. Posing for endless selfies and doing a charity concert every 3-4 months is not a recipe for commercial music success. And even if a small business currently has enough clients, a responsible small business owner knows that brand promotion is important for the future.

I don't know how much Lawson earns from downloads of his songs, but I doubt that it is getting close to covering the recording costs.

Fundy males like Lawson are supposed to be working hard and saving up $$ to buy a home & provide for a future SAHW  and every expanding litter of blessings. I see no evidence of that.

So Jill Rodrigues shared a post on her fb yesterday about a little girl who was in an accident while they were doing construction work in her house. It was really bad and she ended up getting meningitis.

Lawson just posted on his insta and he went to sing to the little girl. I hope she recovers ❤️

I was really worried about poor little Chloe but it looks like she's doing better. She looks just like my cousin named Chloe. They are the same age too.

Each year he fails to marry is another year an innocent child isn’t born into this cult. I’m 100% cool with him trying to be a country music star if it means less kids subjected to IBLP teachings.

I agree, although sadly that is much less true for men than for women. No one would bat an eye if he started courting a 20-year-old soon, who could then go on to give birth to a litter of 10 or 15 blessings (if they're that fertile, of course). I wish the Bates women didn't all get married so damn young (except for Michael). If they keep going like this, they're all going to end up with double digit numbers unless they change their stance on family planning.

Lawson posted a Stonewall Jackson (a Confederate general) quote on his Twitter.

Guess he doesn't love the US as much as he claims to, since he's posting about a man who committed treason. Although, it does fall in line with some other individuals he supports.

Do you think they're in that much of a bubble that they don't realise how much people would look askance at that, or do they not care?

I think that they live in a certain type of Southern racist bubble where they really don't get it. It is like their Confederate room. I really don't think Kelly was expecting people to be upset by that and it took her about two years to come up with some sort of bullshit excuse. Their education on the Civil War and racism in America is probably on par with that one blogger we discussed who admits she won't read anything that says bad things about the Confederacy.

Cool, that's interesting. I can imagine, keeping to themselves and like-minded as they do, how it would happen.

I am really interested to know of she won't read bad things because she thinks it's blasphemous or false history, or if she, on some level, knows she doesn't have the critical thinking skills to contend with teasing out the truth.

Maybe someone should gift them this book ;)

Holy shit! I once got a chinese fortune cookie with this quote in it! I had no idea it was a quote from a confederate general. I kept it because I thought it was a good quote, not one of these " you will receive something good next week" which I normally got with my fortune cookies. I might have it somewhere...

I think the thread about her is in world wide snark, but her whole sense of self seems to be wrapped up in adoration of the Confederacy and is terrified to confront the reality.

As for the Bates, I suspect that they too would shy away from anything that would provide a more accurate history of the Civil War. You don't put up a shrine to the Confederacy in your house unless you are pretty damn in love with the idea that the Confederacy was amazing.
