Joshley Madison Part 6 - Sin, Confess, Repeat

Boogalou

Recommended Posts

An Actual Joshley Post!

Over at Raw Story Vyckie has a piece asking if Josh went to RU at all, and suggesting he might e in Paragould at this place:

missionteens.com/locations.html

I can't find too much about it, but there is one in Paragould and I haven't seen anyone post this yet.

If he is at the place in Paragould there seems to be some debate locally about whether it's a cult or not.

topix.com/forum/city/paragould-ar/T3IUU2TC28V0FUSB8

....which makes it sound exactly like the kind of terrible place the Duggars would pick!

Not proof one way or the other, of course, just a little support for the Paragould Thesis.

1. Where Art Thous is a great title.

2. Just got a peddie and am rocking flops to show off the toesies. (Dark Red)

3. My cousin (the one who thinks Smuggar is secretly gay) wants to know if FJ has found him yet. She says FJ is WAAAAY better at breaking fundie news than regular sources.

So, he still lost? or in Paragould or RU or at Jiggles getting cozy with the local talent? :popcorn2:

I want to try the paleo diet. Any other words of wisdom/results you want to share?

Sorry if this has strayed too far off topic. First book I read was Robb Wolf's Paleo Diet Solution. It explained the science (I'm talking how hormones in the body react and interact and impact the immune system, not the evolutionary stuff) to my satisfaction, but I couldn't quite implement it. Then I read Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint -- more explanations, but also made more practical sense to me. Mark Sisson's website is Marksdailyapple.com, and three years ago I found a lot of helpful information there: motivating testimonials, thoughtful essays on various health-related issues, delicious recipes. I have no idea how helpful the website is these days as I haven't been there in about six months.

Health benefits: Within a few weeks of paleo eating, my joint pain started resolving (it was slow and gradual, I'd say it took about six months to feel 90% normal). Within a week I had more energy, I was sleeping through the night instead of lying awake for hours, and I never got dizzy/faint/weak/woozy from low blood sugar. As a matter of fact, I stopped being hungry and had to track my calories to make sure I was eating enough. My brain worked better. I could concentrate better. My memory worked better. And though I had given up on weight loss methods, I accidentally lost 40 lbs the first year. (I could stand to lose 40 more, but 40 was amazing in its effect on my long-suffering knees.) I was never hungry, and I went from physically needing to eat every two hours or suffer low blood sugar symptoms, to being able to go 24 hours without eating (not on purpose, but during a crisis when I didn't have access to food) and still be fully functional, just feeling a little hollow, like I really ought to eat something soon. (And I did, as soon as I could get some food that wasn't like bologna on white bread with Miracle Whip.)

Suggestion: Do a web search on Whole30. It's restrictive, it can be challenging, but it's only for 30 days. Doing a Whole30 helped me to get into the program and set me up so I could really see the difference (how my body reacted after 30 days, when I ate a donut and realized that donuts really make me feel cruddy) and choose to eat based on how my body feels, rather than trying to follow a "diet" and failing. Pain is a great motivator. Also, explore! I learned to like a whole range of foods I'd never liked, or even tried, before. Beware falling into a rut and eating the same thing over and over -- when I do that, I set myself up to get bored, and boredom leads to eating stuff that makes me hurt later.

If you have arthritis or thyroid issues or chronic migraine or digestive problems (like excess acid or IBS), to a web search on "paleo autoimmune" and you'll find lots of resources. Disclaimer: It doesn't work for everyone. YMMV. But it's been like a miracle in my life. I feel 20 years younger.

You can PM me if you'd like to ask more questions, or get links or cookbook recommendations.

I was digging around the local Topix forum for Paragould and found some people who seem to think he is there:

topix.com/forum/city/paragould-ar/TOEPET1ILNLTN5K0K

...but they're not saying why or how they know this. So it might just be gossip there too. But there is definitely some kind of crazy Christian "rehab" nearby.

I know I'm shallow and particularly bitchy today, but that link? What were they thinking with that pic of the founder? He looks so creepy...like the little dentist elf from Rudolf, Hermey, if he'd gotten old and had a very hard life.

I'm not usually this superficial, but whoever selected that picture hates that guy.

And I didn't dig in for the details, but anyone else think it's inappropriate that a place for teens would accept adults as well? I'd think there would be very different needs going on and unless top notch safeguards in place seems like a bad idea to have minors in with adults when judgement can be severely lacking.

I do think it's weird, but I worked at a state facility for an internship that did that. I thought it was strange, but never knew of any problems with it.

Yeah, I've even heard docs recommending Bag Balm so I'm sure it's really fine. I just have a thing about it.

Fair enough. You got me curious, so I went looking, and Bag Balm has never been subjected to FDA approval. I guess that's because it was originally formulated for animals? I feel comfortable with it having been in use for over a hundred years and that the ingredients seem mostly known, but it's a personal call.

Believe it or not, on topic: I think most, probably even all, of what we don't know about what's going on with Josh and Anna is actually nobody's business but their's however fascinating I personally find it, but it's a little eerie the way the Duggars have mostly gone quiet. They've been such an aggravating presence for so long, it just seems strange to *not* know what they're doing. Even during the Fox interview, Jim Bob couldn't keep from lobbying to keep the family in front of the cameras, so the Joshley Madison scandal seems like it may have brought about an actual paradigm shift. I wonder if Jim Bob and Michelle don't know where to go from here, if they're finally reconsidering the costs to their family of this misbegotten ministry.

Is Josh broken? How could he be otherwise?

Someone else quoted Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

In China, for a thousand years, parents took five year old girls, smashed their foot bones, bent all the toes but the first one under, pulled that first toe back towards the heel. if there was too much flesh in the arch, they rubbed ground glass into the arch, and when the flesh rotted, they scraped it out, to allow closer alignment of toe and heel. And got the ugliest foot on the planet. But tiny. Four inches. If in adulthood the foot is unwrapped, it expands to five inches.

This is what a bound foot looks like:

Anna's situation should remind us that there are women in our very local communities with immediate needs in making a break from an abusive relationship. Channel energy there, channel passion there, channel a few dollars there if your budget makes it possible.

My church helps women and children who need such help. No preaching (unless they ask for spiritual guidance, which does not include a speech about going back to the abuser), just the help and resources they need.

yeah, that's definitely a terrible picture.

As for the ages, the place talking about taking people 18+. Although it's affiliated with "Mission teens," I wasn't clear whether they actually take teenagers or not. Maybe by "young people" they mean most people 18-35--which would certainly fit young Joshley.

On the program: They don't allow any contact with people other than immediate family, pastors, and lawyers. there are four stages, each bringing increased responsibilities and privileges. The first stage has few privileges, but pretty much no responsibility either. Hey, Josh might actually like that! it sounds marginally less dreadful than RU, but Jesus is still the answer to everything. And although the webpage says it's about drug and alcohol addiction, the people discussing the place in the Topix forum said it was for "other problems" as well. So whatever mix of problems Josh has been fake-diagnosed with, it sounds like they would take him.

Can I still talk about mani pedis?

If you have a problem with cracked feet/callouses might I suggest Volcano foot mask from Lush? Basically you put it on your feet, cover in plastic wrap, wait for 10 min or so, then scrub it off with a scrub. I've done it every two weeks when I don't feel like getting pedis and it's made them so soft. Then I put foot lotion on and smother the bottoms of my feet with Vaseline or pure Shea butter and put socks on. Super moisturizing!

Anyone have any good shades of jet black nail polish?

I do think it's weird, but I worked at a state facility for an internship that did that. I thought it was strange, but never knew of any problems with it.

I think it's possible to serve both if structured correctly with resources, I just don't see these people pulling it off. At least the government has some level of oversight and lawyers on the payroll.

Just saw this and seems like a liability nightmare:

Almost all of our staff are graduates of the discipleship training program. They do not receive any salary, but work as missionaries, giving back their life to serve the Lord by reaching out to others. The Assistant Executive Directors at each center work according to Jim Bracken's vision in order to train the staff, oversee the general condition of the buildings, and raise the necessary support, as well as teach, counsel, etc. Each center also has an Overseer who is in charge of daily operations. Anyone seeking admission into a center needs to call the Overseer at that center.

Emphasis mine. I think volunteering is awesome and does a lot of good but people with complex personal issues, addiction, etc need more than missionaries and 5.5 hours of a bible study a day. They need professionals overseeing their care.

5.5 hours of bible study. A day. That's about 5.499 more hours than I've studied the bible in my entire life. They'd need one of those missionaries on me full time just to keep me from going over the wall.

Interesting too that they they don't accept any government funds, nor payment from those being treated. All local donations. From a financial and risk management standpoint I'm kind of fascinated by how places like this work.

I can't keep polish from chipping to save my life, unless I go professional and do the no chip gel deal.

Weird nail thing, though? My whole life I've had pretty thin nails which break easily until the last month or so. I just had to cut mine down because for the first time in my life they were hard enough to get really long without any professional anything. I hated to do it, but I couldn't type.

It was such a departure I googled it since I know some health issues can manifest in the nails, but most of what I found pointed to a change to a healthier lifestyle, better diet, etc. Uhhhh...no. :D

So weird when our bodies go off script!

The one time I got a manicure I got the no-chip thing. If chipped fairly quickly. I was annoyed.

According to TSOTDRT, this is one of those situations in which the conversation should now turn to nail polish, yes?

My own pedicure is a month old. I did just buy a new lip stain from Clinique, though, with the dubious name of Chunkiest Chili. I think the marketing team must have been hung over.

Pretty color though.

I cannot decide if the idea of wearing lipstick named "Chunkiest Chili" makes me want to go to the gym or eat....

Really? Did they offer free retouches if they chip? Mine always lasted until they grew out, but doing them at home no matter how carefully I follow all the rules for basecoats and top costs they are chipping and peeling in an hour.

Also, as much as I like "Joshley Madison: They Tried to Make Me Go To Rehab" I have to vote for "Joshley Madison: Oh, Duggar Where Art Thou?" because having the Amy Winehouse song in my head for however long Part 7 lasts will make me a candidate for rehab!

I've read about baby foot. haven't tried it. Might after Physical Inventory (2 days on my feet in steel toed shoes when I normally drive a desk) in early October though. (which is when I mentally have my next pedicure scheduled since I'm presently in working up the calluses a bit pre harsh treatment of feet for a few days.

I swapped my foot file for a (clean) toilet pumice stone in moment of desperation. I am now converted. They're less than 3 bucks at Lowe's. I was wasting triple that on microplaner files.

refugee..

Thank you very much for your very informative post on the Paleo Diet which I won't quote here.

Very helpful. I did PM you for some more info. I think this is what I need. I think I need to do it. I do not want to give up milk in my coffee.

Thanks. Very good of you.

Same! The last time I had a manicure I got acrylics, which were really nice! Taping my fingers made me sound all the more bitchy, I loved it! getting them off was terrible...

hmm, maybe it has something to do with protein intake? Might be worth a shot.

I just got my toenails done! And have no isea why we're talking about nails, because I had to jump ahead because I can not have any more finger waving because people dare question the story of a $1500 a night(?) porn star who sold her story to a tabloid as soon as it became national news! That does not make me part of a "rapey" culture.

People who say they have been sexually assaulted can't always automatically be assumed to be telling the truth. That is an insult to those who come forward with true stories. And to stand on your soap box and preach about Danica being a victim here just shows your complete ignorance of the plight of women trapped in the sex industry. Go peddle your do-gooder ignorance at a shelter somewhere and learn something.

Women who command $1500 a night don't have to go back to repeat customers who stiff them.

And a polygraph test? Please. There's a reason they're not admissible in court.

My main reason for not believing her story is that she sold it to a tabloid. That and it sounds ridiculous.
