Wow...after seeing that photo, and learning about the food gifts to Debi's parents, I understand a little better why he acts the way he does, and why she took his BS on board.

I've read excerpts from their blog and thought it odd that Michael was always referencing his own looks, both in terms of his sexual desirability and his dominating physical presence, no matter whether it was relevant to a story or not ( onetime he described himself - before beating a two year old girl- as " 210 pounds of pure muscle". I don't usually body snark, but here I think we have to mention how ugly he was as it has obviously had a huge impact on his psyche and the way he needs to present himself to the world. Again, not usually my thing to comment on other people's appearance, but he was fug - as in, runawayscreamingohmygoddidyouseethelengthofitsneck, Bradrick-eared, Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel fug. And people here have already done the "is that a saggy man-teat or a skeletal rib cage?" double take.

Does anyone know what Michael Pearl's relationship with his own parents was like? Because if they rejected him for his less than desirable physical appearance that would certainly account for the way he has built up a theology where he is a god.

I don't know if this is indicative of anything, but I just did an image search for Michael and Debi Pearl to see a larger photo of that bathing suit photo, and smack dab in the middle of the results page was some absolutely filthy gay porn. :lol:

Yeah, Michael Pearl is incredibly ugly, both as a really weak scrawny looking young man with a too long neck and the shark eyed child flesh eating wildman he is now.

It would be interesting to find out what events happened in his childhood, to turn him into the child beating, animal abusing, narcissistic fundie sociopath that he is now.

I wonder if the way he raised his kids was like he was raised himself. Ive always thought that the Pearl way was an excellent way to raise a psychopath.

I wonder if he tortured animals or beat up other kids when he was younger as well.

Does anyone know what Michael Pearl's relationship with his own parents was like? Because if they rejected him for his less than desirable physical appearance that would certainly account for the way he has built up a theology where he is a god.

I would love to know more, as well -- don't have time to research it right now, but someone else here may know. The question of whether he was rejected or accepted, how that affected him, and whether he still cares, is interesting.

Considering how arrogant he was, at such a young age, it seems more likely to me that he was a spoiled Golden Child. But he could have developed the "fuck them all -- I'm wonderful" attitude in self-defense, or it could just be his personality. That fantasy is in line with several personality disorders, any of which he could have.

Either way, setting up his own little kingdom would be in character.

I'd also love to know what teachers and peers thought of him as a kid -- he went to public schools. He went to Memphis Academy of Arts (now Memphis College of Art) briefly, and I remember something about him rejecting the idea that they thought his work not being good enough -- can't remember if he dropped out or was flunked out.

I'm sure he'd laugh off any criticism, saying the drawings were simple because they were for a children's book, or blame Debi, since they are both credited for the illustrations. But, even as a non-artist, I can see a real lack of skill there.

Besides his bizarro world in which his theology and family advice is considered valid, he also did develop one real skill -- aiming and throwing sharp objects. Not exactly useful, but, since there are competitions, and he's won them, he gets positive feedback for it.

To me, the reasoning behind Debi feeling it's okay to beat the children seems to stem from feeling powerless in her relationship with Michael.

Bullies have a tendency to take out their frustration and anger on those smaller and weaker. It doesn't excuse her behavior at all. There is no reason to harm anyone, especially not a defenseless child.

I have always suspected that Michael suffered physical abuse and probably sexual as well. Those are guess, of course, but guesses based on spending a long time reading his writing. He is very focused on sex and letting everyone know he is desirable, manly and powerful. At one time in his life, he must have felt very powerless.

His daughter, Rebekah, used to run a forum called 7XSunday. She talked about her family eating corn all winter. Maybe I will revive some of the topics on 7x just to bring new attention to the Pearls' crappy parenting but the 7xSunday forum itself is now defunct
