She looks 20 years younger with the new 'do. Maybe if JB thought looking younger would make her eggs younger, he would like it more.

If her hair naturally is that curly, when why do her daughters who have curly hair all perm is and the kids who don't perm have straight hair?

In the episode where they perm, they say that Jessa is the only older girl with naturally curly hair. Some of the kids do have curly hair - Jeremiah and Josie come to mind.

ETA: Plus, the perming is something a friend taught the older girls to do. For Michelle to have maintained that hairstyle all of her adult life with naturally straight hair, she would've had to have spent bucket-loads at a local salon before her daughters got old enough to do it. Jim Bob likes curly hair, but he is way too stingy to spend the money that would cost.
