Hopefully if the police find this girl she will be able to seek help if this was an abusive situation.

Its a treatment program.. not exactly a school. I know girls have been sent there to get them OUT of abusive homes. Girls who have been addicted to drugs, sexually abused and so forth. There are also centers that are not residential. I have been to the one in Wichita.. I actually was impressed when I spent a day there. They work with the entire family unit, with a the goal being to put the family back together as a unit. They do NOT believe in touching a child, parents have sessions on better communtication and goals to set ect .. but that its never ok to spank or touch a child in anger.

Again this was the wichita center, I haven't been in the KC one but I know girls who did go there. I had a cousin whos daughter went there after being in several other facilities.. and upon returning home shes actually been able to stay in the home for almost a yr. Her entire family did have to go weekly to the center in Wichita for therapy sessions and some classes. Last I heard they were now working on helping the family with goals for sending her to collage.

I agree that book was alarming..... I hadn't heard any of that kind of stuff in regards to the places here, Im not sure what to think.

Is this them? http://houseofhopekc.net/

It seems like it is an all in one school and treatment experience. They seem to have teachers in the house, so the girls don't go out. They don't say much about what the programme actually involves, except they claim that family therapy is unique to them. The 'success stories' seem sparse and contrived and their success rates are fudged by including the individual parents/family members in the count of successes.

I could imagine that kind of environment being very claustrophobic and frightening for a girl who simply doesn't have a belief in God.

ETA: one of the Board members of the KC House of Hope is superintendent of a local Christian Academy which is explicitly homophobic in its own admissions and discipline policies: http://image.schoolspan.com/files/ma-kc ... IKOU3K.pdf. I'm guessing the House of Hope might have similar policies in place?

The school also bans hugging. Geez, I'd be out of there so fast. I'm a hugger and would very sad if I couldn't hug my friends.

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Serious question: is there anything men hate more than a woman's strongly held opinion?

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.

It's crazy to think that it has already been 25 years since we were worried about what would happen when the calendars would switch over to Y2K.
