Dougie and Liberty

I was just poking around on Dougie's blog, and the 9/26 entry has a picture of Doug and Liberty (it's her 15th birthday). You know, I can't snark on the picture. I think it's actually a fairly normal looking father-daughter pic. Liberty is a pretty girl, and God help me, but when I saw Dougie, I kinda went "dayum!". Then I remembered who I was looking at and was instantly over come by feelings of great shame and remorse. And a stomach ache.

I feel your pain. He's good-looking for an older guy. God help me, but he totally is! *Hangs head in deep, deep shame* His views, on the other hand ...

I have consulted female opinion on the subject and apparently it's down to the Two Phases of Doug; the earnest beardless Pastor-Administrator of a few years ago gets a resounding 'No', but apparently the newly-bearded Manly Anaconda Man of Mystery persona is a considerable step up.

The beard looks quite good on him-it disguises the fact that he hasn't a chin. He reminds me a lot of my favourite uncle who, incidentally, is also a Calvinist preacher. My uncle has lived in Europe for long enough to be fairly socially liberal and he isn't an insufferable tool like Dougie.

I don't trust good looking men in the ministry. He really looks worldly for a fundie. I was very surprised the first time I saw him.

Every man has his worldly vice: Doug's are tweed suits, bow ties, and situationally-inappropriate waistcoats.

But, midawg, the teeth!

Doug's, not Liberty's.

Are those real? Veneers? Dentures?

Reminds me of the old 49 song:

John Wayne's teeth, hey-ah

John Wayne's teeth.

Are they metal? Are they steel?

Are they plastic? Are they real?

John Wayne's teeth, Hey-ah, hey-ah!

Doug has always reminded me a little lookswise of Tim McGraw, the country singer.

He was in a movie not so long ago with Gwenyth Paltrow in which she was a country singer and McGraw was her manager-husband (can't recall the name). He looked so much like Doug in that movie that's all I could think about.

I don't know if it's because the very sight of Doug irritates me since I know who he is and what he teaches (and I've met him IRL), but I just don't think he's handsome. Just not feeling it, ladies.

What's he like in person?

Planning on scheduling my ankle surgery around Trump's Georgia trial - if I'm forced to be off my feet, I might as well be entertained.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
