I hope Jinger gets herself a gorgeous rock, something to go with her new "big city close to Walmart" life.  Food for thought, but are fundie women allowed any input or say in the rings? I never thought about it before. I remember Bin "designed" Jessa's um... interesting rings, and Brandon Keilen did, too. But I wonder if any of them take any consideration into what the lady would like and if her opinion even matters.

Either way, this might be my new favorite ring porn search. No matter how many diamonds are on my own finger I will never stop looking and drooling.

i've never seen these outtakes before, thank you! baby cheeses! man, i wish i could change my fj name to this LOL

My kid says "hey man!" Instead of amen, and "cheeses" instead of Jesus. He's 5 and has grown up pretty secular.

He asked what church was the other day.  I told him it was basically like school...

kids say the darnedest things!

I knew a gal long ago whose wedding rings had a cross on them. I'd never known anyone before that who did that. So ... are those photos of REAL rings? Seriously?

These are absolute, 100% real "Christian engagement rings" for sale. I even found prices and links to purchase for each one.

I did also spot a cross engagement ring.

With the above fish ring: it looks like an eye ball (Jeezus is watching... booga booga booga); the ring to the right of it isn't too bad. The above Jesus ring, though? It looks like he's rolling his eyes & saying "enough with this tacky shite".

But, to be fair, not everyone likes the same things, so for those that like the above rings (& the others)? That's cool.

I almost said something to the effect of "not if you have non-Christian friends!" but then I realized... this is the Duggars.

My favourite Bible verse is Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. (English Standard Version)

I'd be a bit embarrassed to highlight it though, it's not a happy verse, just a big dose of reality.

I'm an atheist, though I've read the bible a few times. My favorite bible quote is Deuteronomy 23:1 but only because I know someone who accidentally got it tattooed on her arm (she mixed up the numbers but I forget what she was going for) so I giggle every time I read it... I'm probably a bad person. I'm not sure what my favorite bible verse would be in all seriousness, so I would probably abstain from an exercise like this.

I check up on this thread just to see if @ChickenettiLuvr has posted any updates on her son's wacky upcoming nuptials.

Or if you have friends who like to mess with you and will just start highlighting all the "And then X begat Y" verses or all the weird rules in Leviticus.

I happened to be cycling this morning and passed a home that had probably 20+ flamingos in their front yard. Of course my first thought was that Sierra had been there and then was kicking myself for not having my phone with me to snap some pictures. I will go back.

Well, back you go!

Well, the Bible does say that the church is the bride of Christ...

I'm...basically taoist, but memorized loads of verses 27+ years ago. Some cheeky stuff comes to mind, but I'd suggest Colossians 2, 20-23, if I called myself a Bible-following Christian, because I'd be an unhandsome finger-pointer at people I didn't think were "keeping it real." So it's definitely for the best I'm not.

The one new thing I did see was basically an itemized list of a honeymoon.

So there's a slot for airfare, dinner each night, drinks each night, and fun things like couple's massage, snorkeling, guided hike, or whatever and then you fill in how much you want to donate and then the bride and groom gets a list like "Aunt Kathy bought you dinner at Such and Such." and then you take a picture of you eating dinner and send it to Aunt Kathy with the thank you card.

It's interesting. With people getting married later and later I think it looks like a moneygrab since everyone already has a set of dishes and silverware and a toaster and blender and people are just getting money anyway.

I am amazed if I get a thank you card any more.   Ill mannered Young people think they've covered it if they post "Thanks for the loot" on FB - no matter if you are on fb or not

After participating in wedding planning/writing the checks up-close-and-personal for my son's bash this month, I SERIOUSLY doubt that the Duggars would fork over any requisite $$ amount to feed their 1,000 grab-for-gift guests anything of substance.

Even Chef-Boy-R-Dee in a can would be too expensive for Cheapskate JimBoob.  Same thing with giving guests an actual slice of wedding cake.  Depending on metropolitan area, wedding cake starts at $4.00 per slice and goes north of $10.  So that's a big nopeity nope as well.

Perhaps a pumpkin-spiced cake donut without frosting?  Oh wait.  Donut HOLE.  Only one per guest, no drinky, no napkin. Still standing in a parking lot.

If they plan ahead they can all go to Krispy Kreme (or wherever it was) dressed up and each get a dozen donuts, freeze them and use them for the wedding reception.   VOILA!   That's the reception taken care of!

Years ago, Mr. No and I were invited to the large and very fancy wedding of his coworker.   We were going through some tough financial times at that time and couldn't afford a gift, things were very tight.  We considered not going  because of this, but declining would have actually caused some issues at work.  Mr. No was a good work buddy of this coworker who would have been deeply hurt so we went.  We did not give a gift, we were that broke, it was enough just to drive to the downtown hotel where the reception was being held and pay for the valet parking.  Incidentally, the coworker didn't care that we didn't give a gift, but she would have certainly noted if we didn't attend.

Agree that estimating the plate cost can be a good basis on how much to give if that's what you want to do and have the money, but this business of expecting guests to "pay" for something they are being invited to, just....no.   It's tacky and it turns a happy occasion that one has been invited to share, into a transaction, some of kind of "favor" that has to be returned.

I know that back east (NYC area) that it is common to consider how much your plate would cost and give a gift accordingly (for weddings, showers, Sweet Sixteen, etc)   But how is a guest to know ahead of time for sure unless someone lets 'slip' the cost of the per person.    Another option would be to say on the RSVP card - The cost of your meal will be $X, plus tax and tip.    (Snark)

I remember when my aunt was invited to a Sweet Sixteen party.   The mother of the girl told her that they were ordering the girl's dress and the mother's dress from Italy and they were taking out a second (or third) mortgage on the house and hoped that they would get enough in cash gifts to cover a good part of the party.   My aunt agonized over how much to give.   I said to give her a pair of pearl earrings (use your Kohl's cash and coupons) and call it good.   If they CHOOSE to do something that stupid then that is their decision.  Or don't go.

And then there was the bride recently in the news who sent a bill to a couple who ended up missing the wedding because they had a sick kid or something.   It was to cover their plates of food for the reception.
