I'm not sure if this is the right moment for this, but if it is, I'd like to ask if any of you guys know what colors will be in next fall for a chic mani/pedi.

If it's not the right place/time, please continue with the discussion and ignore this parenthesis...

I'm not much for trends, but I'm considering a nice emerald.

LOL. You were not "dog piled" because of things you said in anger. You were called out for your crappy comments about strippers/prostitutes/porn stars, and insinuating that they are all disease-ridden and reckless - a stance you continued to defend for quite awhile, if I remember correctly.

If the OP said something in anger that they wish to reword, then they should just say that. "Yeah, you're right, the way that came across was not really what I intended. My bad." It's not that hard. Why continue to dig the hole deeper?

this is not the same user...

I wouldn't expect you to care if atheism got a bad rap. You don't believe in anything so what's to care about.

I believe in something and I care about it.

I'm only explaining what I was thinking when I wrote the things I wrote. I don't need you to understand or care, I'm just explaining my state of mind. That's it. I probably need to go home and take a nap.

As an atheist it is really hard when people act like we don't care when people bash all atheist. Yeah, there are some shitty atheist, but not all of us are. You think Christianity is being bashed? Try being a non-believer in the Bible Belt and see how fun that is. I grew being told I was persecuted because I was a Christian, but when I lost my faith I realized how Christians(not all, of course) do a hell of a lot of persecution in the name of God.

Oh, I didn't realize you were speaking for all Christians. That's disappointing, because I personally don't want you purporting to uphold any of the values I hold dear.

You don't speak for all Christians, in other words. You don't get to claim that you're valiantly defending an entire religion when you post things about people being sexually abused with which other people don't agree. That's not how it works.

The stereotypes that you're perpetuating are just absurd right now. Are you intentionally playing into as many of them as you possibly can?

I did NOT say I was defending CHristianity when I said that shitty thing.

What I said was that i blew my top and said that shitty thing because I got upset because the Duggars are many times mentioned in the same sentence as Christianity. I WAS UPSET TO SEE CHRISTIANITY get that bad rap from the Duggars.

I was not and do not feel the need to defend Christianity. I was stating my emotional state when I wrote said shitty things.

I was just hurt when everyone came down on me. I wasn't saying anyone should be raped.

Good idea. I'm thinking about violets and greys...

i'm actually considering giving those nail wrap things a try. sally hansen has some for pretty cheap (so if i fuck em up, no huge loss). if i end up being any good at applying them and i like them, jamberry has some awesome looking designs.

This was being talked about awhile back, but can we please talk about how Josh not only picked a J-name for his secret online alias, but picked a nickname for one of his brothers! Imagine being poor Joseph Duggar and realizing that your brother used YOUR first name in his search for extra-marital affairs/strippers. Of all of the male names in the world, he could not avoid the name of one of his NINE brothers.

I really like the nail wraps! The Sally Hansen ones are really easy to apply, and as long as you don't re-position them a bunch and remember to seal them with a good top coat, they last quite awhile. I type all day and they still last at least a week for me.

It is horrific. Just get's stranger and stranger.

I was just looking to see if it could be true, seems that is a thing with fundies.

I now have a visual of J'chelle sitting in the living room with a line of kids through to the dining room waiting for their 15 minutes.

EVERY aspect of these people is WEIRD. It keeps getting crazier. Like a soap opera, but not. :cray-cray:

I really think people are taking these scheduled 15 minute private talks waaaayyyy out of context. At least the Duggar's have said that the scheduled talks were in addition to normal daily interaction like you would have in any family. Although, with the Duggar's, with 19 kids and their extreme buddy system - it would be far less than in a typical family. But it isn't the scheduled time that's the issue. The point of the scheduled time is just to make sure that no matter how busy the week has been that there is some dedicated time with each kid without any distractions for deeper conversations.

I grew up in an extremely lefty small family in the 70's , my parents did a similar " quality time" scheduled thing with each of us every week ( well, until they spaced out on it ) . It didn't mean we didn't spend plenty of time throughout the week talking or playing or doing activities or whining or whatever. It was just a block of time with no one else around where the focus was individual.

good to know! i'm not super coordinated, so while i like to have painted nails, it's like undertaking the twelve labors of hercules between trying to paint nicely and cleaning up without fucking up the new paint job.

this is not the same user...

The same user who said that Josh definitely had an STD because he had sex with a porn star and they're all infected? Yes it is. I'm not sure if that's what you were referring to? I know that gemma wasn't the same user who just claimed everyone was "persecuting" them for their religious beliefs, but given the comments made by gemma with regard to people calling out certain posts on the board, I felt that it was perhaps worth a three second comment to point out that neither gemma nor the other poster were unjustly called out.

Also I'm way too tired to break that last sentence down into digestible chunks with less fewer username references.

All I am saying is be secure in your beliefs and don't worry about what other people think.

Just because ...I'm a Christian as well and it does trouble me that a segment of Christianity is of the duggar variety. I don't think it reflects badly on me. Sometimes people do generalize, but like someone just said, just be secure and don't worry about others.

What you said may not be what you intended to say - but it came across that way to a lot of people, myself included. Stop and think before you post next time and you should be fine. Also, maybe stay away from hypothetical talk about rape or abuse as well. :)

As for the atheism talk, I was a non-believer from the ages of about 13 through about 25. I don't even live in the Bible Belt and I still felt judged at times - even though no one knew! I think people who are Christians get so caught up in protecting their beliefs sometimes that they forget what actual persecution looks like. The majority of religious people in the USA are Christian, which means they aren't able to understand what it's like to face religious persecution the way Jewish people or Muslims or Atheists or any other faith group understands it. A Christian in a country that doesn't have a Christian majority? They absolutely can understand persecution and there are places where they face it every single day.

I understand your frustration. The Duggars held themselves up as the idealistic Christian family for so long and now people have turned on them and it feels as if people are lashing out at all Christians at times as a result - just remember that they may believe in Jesus (which makes them Christians), but they absolutely do not embody the values a good Christian should have. They don't get to define an entire faith system based off what they believe; they can define their Cult, but not Christianity. The best thing you or other Christians can do is to be a positive example of your faith - do good works, help others, stand up for those who need protection. And, if the situation calls for it, swear at the nearest fig tree and flip some tables (two of my favorite parts of the New Testament because they made me laugh a bit - it was nice to see Jesus wasn't all goody-two-shoes all the time!)

What happened to:

I believe largely as the Duggars do

the ideas presented by those here who dislike the Duggars are basically nothing new to me.

This was in response to me pointing out how the Duggars believe really awful things and follow a guy who groomed teen girls so that he could sexually harass them. Have you changed your beliefs? What caused that change?

But if people are required to apply for food stamps and then turn those over to the facility without getting a discount of the respective amount on the program cost, then the food stamps are NOT used to pay for the patients' food. It would be 100% profit for the facility.

Sorry , going back many pages, but it's hard to stay caught up!

No, it's not 100% profit for the facility . The amount received from food stamps is such a relatively minor portion of the total program cost that they can easily ( and justifiably ) say that the food stamps are just off- setting some of the many other costs that the client payment only partially pays for. So if food is partially covered by food stamps - that means more of the client payment can be used towards shampoo , or workbooks, or staff or electricity or supplies for their volunteer work or toilet paper or paper and pens or a million other things.

Particularly in incredibly cheap programs like this one it's very easy to say that the food stamps are a necessary element to running the program.

Conversely, In more expensive programs they will be paying large amounts for professional staff and services and ( depending on program philosophy ) amenities. If it's a medical model treatment program there will be extra costs for medical personnel. The actual cost of food is a very, very small portion of the costs of treatment.

Also, food stamps are never designed to cover 100% of food needs for the month . The participant is expected to pay up to 30% of their income towards food ( or 30% of food costs , it's been awhile )

Also I believe you ( or maybe it was someone else ) had a misunderstanding about the nit- picky ( but very important) definitions regarding who is cooking / sharing food resources. It doesn't matter who is doing the actual shopping and cooking and serving of the food. It could be staff or participants or a combination. It's whether the food money ( actual cash and/ or food stamps ) is pooled so that all the food is shared by the people who live in the center ---or if each individual is expected to keep their food purchases separate and used by just themselves. An example would be if you have roommates -- If you all pitch in and shop together and buy a gallon of milk that everyone can drink from and you take turns making dinners that you all eat -- then you and your roommates would all pool your money . If you and your roommates each shop on your own and label your yogurt and ice cream so no one else can use it -- then you, individually, would control your own food budget.

TL/DR -- Even cheap programs without much " program" have higher costs than are covered by typical program fees. So using food stamp money for food just means a shift in funds to cover other costs.

What is so hard about saying " yeah, I can see why what I said is out of line, I didn't think it through, I don't really feel that way." and just move on?

No worries. I was perhaps not clear enough when pointing out how unclear comments could lead to confusion lol - I apologize.
