John Marie definitely was making an attempt, there would no other reason for him to hang around Maxhell for as long as he did. He probably wasn't the only one but probably went the distance longer than most.

John-Marie has moved on to greener, happier pastures. Per his public FB page, he is officially in a relationship with a young woman who, from all appearances, knows how to have FUN.

It's indicative of a fortress mentality. There's "us", the family, the familiar, the pure in heart and Saved, then there's "them", everyone else in this corrupt, fallen, frightening world, and the difference between "us" and "them" is greater than the difference between any two individual family members, so why bother calling them by name?

But I wonder if Steve would be so kind as to tell us what would happen if any of the 'children' came to him one day and said "I'm tired of this crap, this is no way to live. I'm moving out. Johnny boy will be single as long as there aren't any free houses in the immediate neighborhood for him to buy. Can't have him move farther than half a kilometer away from The Compound.

Maybe he's going to buy Gigi's house now that she probably lives there all alone. If that's the case, I sincerely hope Gigi tells Stevie to fuck off and moves to Aunt Tami's home in Alabama comfortably far away from the Maxhell funny farm.

Verrry good point about GiGi's house, Lurker. I can't see the Maxwells letting that one go. If John did buy it, he might even be able to move in right away as GiGi's overseer, and maybe one of the girls could come along to do the actual work. I was looking at that area on Zillow recently. There's a place near them that's for sale, but I think it was about 200K, so maybe out of John's price range? I think Joseph paid a lot less for his place.

John Marie is from a frumperlicious family, in Iowa if I recall. He wears pressed jeans and owns his own sprinkler business. I think the Maxwells knew him from the fundy homeschool circuit. He and his family made several appearances on the Borg Blog. The Maxwells even took what some might call a vacation to the John Marie family abode. This all occurred around the time Sarah started proclaiming the glorious homemaking/burrito rolling skillz of Anna, right after her "graduation" from Bible outlining school. Speculation was rampant that John Marie was trying to court Anna. Yet no announcement followed and the Maries vanished from the scene. John Marie is now engaged to another woman who actually seems to have a job-type thing.

John's last name is not Marie. Christopher's wife's proper name is not Anna Marie. Anna Marie's sister is named Sarah, not Gracie. But Steve does not allow anyone to have the same names as his kids. Marie is Anna Marie (Chris' wife)'s middle name and the name we use for anyone who shares a first name with a Maxwell since that is not allowed in Maxworld.

John Marie is from Idaho, not Iowa, which is even further from the compound than Iowa would be, so I'm sure that was a huge factor in Stevie's decision to not ask him around anymore.

The only thing I'd add is that Mrs Marie (and maybe his sister) still comments on the blog occasionally. Unlike the Muncks, they haven't fallen out of favour with Steve and Co, but John Marie is still in a relationship with a hairdresser who gets her nails done in loud colours and who wears jeans (without creases, even).

Mostly here, I think. You could do a search for John Marie because mostly that's how we refer to him as. You'd have to scour the Maxhell blog to find the photos of him visiting at Christmas (was it 2011? 2010?) and other times and then the Maxhell's visit to their home in Idaho the same year, I think, but during the summer and coordinated with a conference. I don't remember his real last name, so I'm not much help.

Wow, has he changed. Hair is a little longer, a bit of a beard. In one picture it looked like he was wearing a graphic t-shirt (I don't mean porn graphic). He looks good.

And, he certainly does not have a no-touch relationship going on there.

He looks so different from the last pictures we saw of him on the Maxwell blog when they visited him and his family in Idaho.

Oh, would I love to know the true, inside story of his relationship with the Maxwells.

In the most recent post (part 3 of the great hiking adventure, I think), Sarah writes that Anna and Jesse "braved the cold" to go back a bit and help with their parents' packs. What the....? Why didn't one of the other brothers help their parents along with Jesse? And what's with Anna having to be the pack mule all the time? First she has to carry a crying Ruthie, now she has to lug her parents' packs. I definitely think it's great they were helping their parents, but...GEESH! Come on, Maxwell "men," show some chivalry to your women folk - you know - the ones you are supposed to protect and treat as the weaker sex.
