Confederate Candles

Girl Scouts allows you to replace "G-d" in the pledge with whatever word makes you comfortable.

And because of this, tons of Christians, people who claim to not be tolerated, pulled their girls from scouts because they can't tolerate people saying anything else.

And, because of this, many Christians formed different organizations as "alternatives" to Girl Scouts such as (in order from least to most creepy):

Frontier Girls: http://www.frontiergirls.com/

-Promise: I promise to love God, Be loyal to my country, and to love my neighbor as myself.

American Heritage Girls: http://www.ahgonline.org/

-Oath states:"I promise to love God, Cherish my family, Honor my country, and Serve in my community." Vision: "American Heritage Girls is the premier national

character development organization for young women that

embraces Christian values and encourages family involvement."

Little Flowers Girls Club: http://www.eccehomopress.com/LFGC_home.htm

-based upon a 1906 devotional guide for Catholics

Keepers of the Faith Girls: http://www.keepersofthefaith.com/

-their junior level is called "Little Keepers at Home."

Here's the Christian Flag Pledge, I had to look it up.

I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe.

Oh, I didn't even think about that. What I was actually thinking of in the OP was their offensive blog post in February 2012 about a parade they attended that celebrated the Confederacy. Because another family, the Kendalls, accompanied them, they titled the blog post, The Kendalled Konfederacy. But within a day or two the post disappeared. I saved it on Zotero, but can't pull it up any more on Google cache. Let me see what I can do. In the meanwhile, here's the FJ thread discussing it: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8401&start=40&hilit=konfederacy

I really believe these people are very uneducated and just don't realize how offensive they are.

I sometimes wonder about that. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt for their ignorance. But, how uneducated do you have to be in the United States to not know that is not okay?

Oh dear. For real?

I don't find the "Little Flowers Girls' Club" especially creepy, as it's designed to be an exclusively Catholic thing, like the old Children of Mary Sodality. It doesn't seem to be linked to a larger American Christian Dominionist movement the way the other ones (particularly American Heritage Girls, which was designed specifically to spit in the eye of the Girl Scouts) are.

(Full disclosure: I was Catholic all my life till 2006.)

About Confederate Candles: we have nothing against the North; in fact, we have many much-loved family members who are from that beautiful part of our country. The name came about just as a play on Yankee Candles (which we also love, and have used many of...prior to manufacturing our own candles :)

Heh, a spin on the, "I have nothing against black people, and even have a black friend."

So this was just a poorly-thought-out name. What a shame, since I love candles, and have worked a candle budget into our budget. I wouldn't feel good about anything titled Confederate.
