Amy "Duggar" and her 2 hour fraktacular

I'm not saying adoption would have been a good option - it's bad enough the J'slaves raised their siblings when they were still children themselves - but they still could have done something. Amy saw her parents fighting constantly. That can't be too much healthier than seeing your parents dry humping each other all the time while preaching "purity purity purity". It seems any child born to either Duggar sibling was pretty much screwed :(

On that note, I'm really surprised, given all the crap that was going on during her childhood years, that JB and J'chelle didn't take her in. If anything just to give her a father figure and a stable home. As screwed up as they were, they at least had a stable home, even if it was cramped. They weren't traveling all over the country - and apparently the world - like they are now. It seems she clearly wanted to be apart of that family when she was younger. And it would really help speak to their character if they took her in. Imagine the opening credits then. "I'm Michelle. And that's my wonderful husband, Jim Bob. Amy's our niece; we adopted her. Then there's our children ... And if you lost count, that's 19! Plus Amy! And Grandma lives with us, too!" Even though J'chelle didn't "birth" Amy, she would still add to the number and make it look like she has more children, which is really all she wants. Plus it would help with that whole "we're open to adoption" bullshit they keep spewing.

Seriously? Are you just being snarky here? (I can't tell.) :?

Amy's childhood may have been a little unstable, but it's not like her mom left her in a box on the side of the road. Do you really think her mom would have given her up for adoption?

She did have a website at one point. Back in the beginning of the show - at least close to the beginning of the show - she had a website with a picture of her in this blue dress and cowboy boots. It was a frilly dress that reminded me of a very watered down version of something Amy Lee (evanescence) would wear. Of course I'm pretty certain that was back when she was Amy Jordyn or Amy Jordan or whatever.

I really think she thinks life and a career will be handed to her because of her uncle. Her cousin has had everything handed to him so why shouldn't she expect the same thing?

Compared to the Duggars kids, Amy's life doesn't seem all that bad. She needs to get off her ass and find what she wants to do in life.

Yes, because of course you should go live with your aunt and uncle simply because your parent(s) are single, or fight, or are poor or whatever the fuck else. :angry-banghead:

You can be close to your extended family, and love hanging out with your cousins and be as close as siblings without being taken away from your own parent ( s). WTF

Well gee then, how about if we just take every kid from every home that might be considered dysfunctional by someone and put them somewhere else! Oh, wait, there would be exactly 0 families that someone, somewhere wouldn't find horrible.

Absolutely agree that maybe if she heard her parents fighting she didn't need to be "taken in" by her crappy uncle's family, and all of those things the posters who commented on that imply.

That said, Amy sure seems delusional and entitled--her humble "just because I'm a Duggar doesn't mean I'll get special treatment,"' sure seemed to translate into "I expect special treatment because I'm A Duggar." And followed around with camera crews and had my own 2-hour TV special showing me like being fun and all. So even though I've never studied music, or worked at music, or bothered to learn anything about music or the music business, I'm coming to Nashville for two whole weeks and meeting record producers and the sky is the limit!

She seemed honestly shocked when the guy told her she sounded like shit and I feel sorry for her, in a way, because I don't think she'll have an opportunity to work for her goals. Two weeks in Nashville, didn't become a superstar, cautionary tale

I still can't believe that Amy Duggar has her own TV show, yet she does not even have an album on Itunes, Bandcamp, Amazon, a personal website, Spotify, etc. If she is trying to break into the industry, recording an album and putting it out for consumption is pretty much, well...where you start. :?

She does have an album on you tube https:

the lack of emotion is, well, staggering

I am the one who posted that video under Sawnya M, my other net name. And yes, I actually own the album and bought it before she quit selling it on CDBaby. It is a freshman effort, but I don't regret the purchase, even if it was more than what I usually spend on an album. I don't know how much of the album you listened to, but some of the songs are actually good (to me anyway). She does seem to sound her best, I think, when it comes to gospel songs and softer ballads (she's not quite ready for power ballads yet).

I probably differ with a lot of folks here, that I actually like her, and I believe she has potential as a singer. Whether she succeeds or not, at least the one album I have by her will be quite a collector's item.

Having an album happens after you break into the industry. It is why you are trying to break in. That is actually how it is really done. Recording and production take money. That is why people play in clubs and work from the bottom up. Even people who produce independently have to get the studio time and the rest together. And all that costs money. The poster above who mentioned whatever homemade thing she has up tells you precisely why you don't record until you know what you are doing.

It wasn't on the show. But there's a video about it on the TLC website. It is pretty funny, Grandma started preaching to her about how tattoos are not godly. :naughty: She didn't get one.

This whole scene reminded me of the bridal shop thing - "oh look, there's a tattoo parlor/bridal shop, let's go inside and waste their time, because we just want to have fun and not really get a dress/tattoo...yay!"

Tattoos aren't Godly?? *gasp*

Guess I'm going to hell.

Hi everyone

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I believe they use the same Leviticus BS about tattoos as they do about homosexual relationships. Unfortunately some don't read ahead in that bit of the Bible and have the "gheys is baaad" passage tattooed on their body.

Oh for shame!

That... was... just... about ...her going to Nashville for TWO weeks???

:? They must have been planning something else from the beginning because otherwise... yeah. I didn't manage to sit through it, not even the first part. Even though I found grandma/Amy'smum/Amy talking to each other as they were driving kind of sweet. Normal in a way. I don't know.

Otherwise it was so dull. And yeah, she seems kind of naive. Very naive.

Months ago I heard that Amy was getting her own show. At the time, I read somewhere that it would be about her and a few other aspiring singers getting an apartment together. The premise seemed to be about how all these naive young things travel to Nashville together and how they learn to live together, get jobs, figure out how to get noticed, etc. I remember the thing I read said something about how Amy was not going to be 'the star', just one of an ensemble. Then nothing until April when the Amy talk started up again with the 'Duggar Leaves Home' business.

I wonder if the initial concept was deemed not likely to succeed and the two hour special is the result.

It makes more sense if it was just how to use a bunch of outtakes. Hard to believe someone actually planned a special about someone pushing 30 who takes a 2-week trip with her mom and grandma.

Did this trip change anything in Amy's life? Like, does she have an agent or gigs lined up? If not, then she made a big deal out of the trip, came home, and returned to tagging after the Duggars..... I really don't understand....

Just from the comments and expressions made by the industry people she was with at the Grand Ole Opry... when she didn't step into the circle on the stage and twirl around with hair floating out in an arc or something equally dramatic and show-worthy... that was kind of telling. She seems to have too much self-doubt and not enough dive-in. (coming from someone who only watched the little clips on the Duggar site, not the whole 2 hours)

She didn't step into the circle!? OMG! I would love to step into the circle on the Grand Ole Opry stage. I have heard you can feel the presence of all of the greats who stood there in the past who are no longer here.

Sheesh... she should have stood in the circle.

She didn't actually SING on the stage at the Opry did she? Cause that totally won't be fair lol

i don't think she sang onstage, it was too painful to watch more. i felt embarrassed for her. it was awkward.

Being famous nowadays is 90% loud n proud self-promotion and 10% talent with a sprinkle of good looks  she needs to just jump in if she really wants it, but it's probably too late now.

I told a friend of mine about this who actually lives in Nashville and tried to get into the business. She said "Two weeks!? There are people who have lived out here for ages who still can't get in! Two weeks!?"

My parents employed a live in "Norland Nanny" for a couple of years when they had 4 under 4s and my Dad was often overseas. She would have cut a bitch who called her a "baby sitter". They have specialist degrees in infants, child care, early education etc they wanted to make a career out of it. We also later had a couple of Au Pairs who would have similarly been annoyed if their experiences had been reduced to "baby sitter" even if it was mostly true.

The point is Amy's "Nannying" is most likely closer to "Babysitting" than any qualified or even "in exchange for" Au Pair role but that doesn't mean its merely a pretentious title for everyone who uses it.

I also got bored halfway through and bailed.

That said, I'm not that judge-y of Jim-Bob. The odds are that most artistic types will hold down a waitressing (or similar) job while pursuing their dreams. After hearing Amy sing, I can't say she's untalented, but she's not amazing, either.

Does she want so be a famous singer...or does she just want to sing? There are performers at dinner theaters and cruise ships. Hey, it's a job and beats sitting around waiting for the next man to come along. She's not on every episode with her cousins so TLC money isn't anything she can really depend on.

And so it begins...

Famy begins by "introducing" herself to us. Really Famy? We dont know you? She tells us that usually DQ and Boob make the announcements, but today its her turn.

The girls say that they help Amy to "not be so lonely"

Howler says Famy is spunky

Famy pics of riding bulls, skydyving, driving a truck on the Duggar's front lawn...

Michelle TH says Amy is "always up for a good time" and you never know what to expect."

Usual 19KAC opening. Why is Josh still washing cars? Shouldnt he be walking the DC mall by now? Oh yeah, and Michelle popped em all out.

Scene: broken and abandoned house, hay bales... Michelle says over the years they've made a lot of announcements - engagements, pregnancies etc... but Amy is on her way over to make her own announcement.

Family takes a lot of time describing her relationship with the Duggars, including the fact that her friends at school though the Duggars were freaks for having so many blessings. Famy spews some shit about love and thats all that matters.

Boob TH - from the time she was little she was fun to be around.

Famy TH (note - hot pink low cut shirt, matching lipstick, blue dangly earings, heavy eyemakeup, and I think she drew in her eyebrows. Someone needs to tell famy to step away from the airbrush.

Famy says she "always bends the rules." Shots of her giving the kids soda, trashing cars etc.

Grandma says she went to REAL SCHOOL right next door to where the Duggars lived. She went through the barbed wire fence "like an african lion" ( :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: ) to go over and see them.

Jana mumbles about them helping her by having a "sibling relationship" and then she can go home to her quiet place.

Famy shots from the garage sale wearing a tank top. Jackson says they do lots of fun things with her - her white tank top is replaced by a black t shirt.

Shot of Famy and Joy making rice krispy treats. Joy says she's adventurous like she is.

Michelle repeats AGAIN that shes "always up for a good time." JInger and Joseph speculate that she's married or engaged. Jinger has a Josie style white flower in her hair. That needs to never happen again.

I am thankful they made her change shirts. Of all the visual stumbling blocks I have had in my life, my cousin's were always the most defrauding.

I only watched the first hour and while Amy can be okay, I didn't even DVR the second hour. I did notice that Jim Bob was really rude to her. Yes, she needs to know that Nashville is a difficult dream but he turns everything into her morals and how his daughters are looking up to her! These episodes are more and more staged and it drives me nuts. Cousin Amy comes over and the entire family is home (including her mother Deanna) and summoned to listen to Amy speak? Let those older Duggar young adults leave the house, Jim Bob. :( My parents hardly saw me from age 14 on.
