A Christmas Poem

With glory sprawled from height to depth Your heart not satisfied,

You took a deep and crowning breath for the apple of your eye.

Your masterpiece, the one like You, treasured over all,

The only one who could break your heart–with one world-wrecking fall.

And wonder of wonders–yet to come–Your love so zealous burned,

Redeeming grace o’ercame the grief of perfect Love so spurned.

To exalt my wretchedness into the glory of Your Son,

You became a skin-wrapped child, the sacrifice begun.

Christmas–oh the wonder isn’t lights and gifts and song,

It’s the miracle of God-made-flesh to make right what we made wrong.

I'm no poet Spike Milligan is more my thing.

Skin-wrapped child though gave me an interesting visual.

It has a bit of a Dr. Seussian feel to it with all those terrible rhymes.

I personally like the faux-KJV-speak. It's a rare talent that can drop the word "o'ercame" into a poem.

I am qualified to say that poem is shit

I believe you

I am not qualified and English is not my first language, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I know a thing or two about English lit. and I think that 'poem' is bull feces.

Is there anything the great Kelly cannot do?

Well she can't seem to stop talking out of her arse...

Maybe next week she will perform brain surgery on a sick friend....

then represent a homeschooler at the Supreme Court....

she's probably working on a new algorithym for digital convolution

all the way keeping the home and writing that blog.

I tell you, she's a gal of many talents (or so she says)

Here's what I think drove this poem.

Kelly C gets ready for Christmas, and gets all overwhelmed with how great God is! How wonderful Jesus is! Christmas is such a great celebration of His birth even if He wasn't really born then!

She writes a poem to express these feelings before they cause her to explode

In her narcissistic way, she decides the poem is so good, so great, really, that everyone on her blog will love it too.

She posts it on her blog and waits for the applause

(I noticed that no one seemed really moved, though, at least judging from the lack of comments)

It's actually a brilliant way to divert her readers from her obvious narcissism - "I'm not looking for praise! I'm glorifying GOD, y'all!"

This is what happens when your idea of the world's greatest literature is Edward Buwler-Lytton. ;)

ETA - She liked the phrase so much, she used it AGAIN in her post today:

I’m rejoicing in the messy birth of a skin-wrapped God come to die in my place. What love…do we know it?

Oh and thanks for the bolded reminder of your heart-shaped tornado! We totally missed that the first 20,000 times. Not that you offered any prayers / thoughts for the victims of Hurricane Sandy or anything - those EAST COAST SINNERS. Sheesh.

No, but Kelly is a Vogon.

"Skin wrapped child" reminded me of a great story from when I student taught at a Catholic preschool. One of the nuns was explaining transubstantiation to the kiddos. About halfway through her explanation, one of my students raised her hand and asked, "If the bread is the body of Christ, then is the crust the skin of Christ?"

Note to self: don't drink coffee when reading FJ.

OKTBT, where can I send you the bill for the new keyboard you owe me?
