Sarah Pope is in labor

This past Sunday, we hit the mark I had been waiting for...24 weeks. Unfortunately my body decided it no longer wanted to cooperate at that point. The contractions picked up in intensity and I spent the night in Labor and Delivery. The test they do to see I am getting ready to deliver (fetal fibronectin) came back positive - the first to do so since the contractions began five weeks ago. I also may have had another infection. After the doctor confirmed that my cervix was closed despite the regular contractions, I was sent back to CAMP.

Tuesday morning my cervical length was measured at my regular doctor's appointment. It had shortened significantly - down to 1.7cm from 2.8cm. With the increase in contractions, the short cervix, and the positive test, my doctor felt that admitting me to UAMS was crucial.

She is Michelle Duggars friend, they both had preemies together.

Thankfully she hasn't gone into full on labor yet, but she's getting there much, much faster than anyone wants. I feel so much for her as she knows exactly what's waiting for them.

Is something like this genetic or caused by an outside issue?

I do feel sad for her that she may have another micro-premie.

Sometimes a woman has an unusual uterus or cervix that causes it, or there are outside issues that I dont think apply here (drugs etc) but really, I dont think they know for sure.

Whatever it is with Sarah, I don't think they know for sure. They saw many doctors and specialists before trying again because she didn't want to go through this a second time if she could avoid it. The doctors were all in favor of trying again from what I've read.

Their little boy is adorable. He doesn't even look like a preemie. It is very sad she feels ashamed. Sounds like she is doing everything she can to keep this baby inside as long as possible.

I think it is fine for the link to remain unbroken in this case. We break links (make them unclickable) when we. Link to certain fundie blogs/sites so they can't be traced back to Freejinger. I don't think Sarah Pope would care.

I hope she and the baby will be ok. Did she have a cerclage placed? Being in preterm labor is the most scared I've ever been

Right now, I am waiting to go into labor with my micro-premie. The doctor says it can happen to anyone at anytime so that I shouldn't be ashamed or scared to live my normal life. I am 27 weeks along, but my baby is 23 weeks in size, so I have to keep her in until she weighs enough for them to help after birth (~1lb). I am so scared, but have to keep that inside when I'm around my children, they don't need to be scared too. Every day I don't go into labor, or that she isn't in distress is a good day.

I will keep Sarah Pope in my thoughts and prayers and hope that her baby will make it with very few complications later in life.

((((Bbtlover)))), I had a micro premie 25years ago. I've told Katherine's story several times here on Freejinger so I won't repeat it now. Even if you we're not going to breastfeed a term baby, do breastfeed this baby. Of course, I mean pump your milk to be saved for your baby. She may not to be able to receive it at first and they may need to add fortiifiers to it, but your milk is the best for your baby and does help prevent NEC or necrotizing enterocolitis which you definitely want to avoid. Start pumping early ( even if you need help) with a hospital grade pump and pump frequently. Some moms who deliver very early do have a low milk supply. If this happens, don't be alarmed. Keep pumping and you're supply will pick up once your baby can go to breast. Also, do kangaroo care with you baby once she is stable and off the ventilator. It is another thing that is wonderful for you both. I'll PM you my email address if you want to ask me any questions.

I'll keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers.

I too am sorry for you. As for Sarah Pope I wonder if something happens to her body when gets pregnant that she has these complications. I really feel bad for her.

Mom to an IUGR 30-weeker and a 26 weeker here - keeping you and babe in my thoughts, hope she chubs up and stays in as much as possible. The sheer fear I felt around their birth is etched in my brain for good, but they're happy and healthy now.

Sending good vibes to both Sarah and our FJ sister.

With Sarah, I wonder if her brain tumor had anything to do with it in any way.

I hope they are able to forestall labor as much as possible. Every day is crucial.

I had a preemie (though thankfully not a micro preemie) and I know how hard early labor can be. I'm keeping her in my thoughts.

I wish the best for Sarah and baby. How tough to be in this situation for the second time. She should in no way feel embarrassed or ashamed.

I too had a very short cervix that continued to shorten and didn't dilate properly. Fortunately, after partial nearest and a c-section, I gave birth to a healthy full-term boy.
