Limbaugh Calls Sandra Fluke A Slut

I heard about this on Young Turk. Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut for discussing birth control.

Just more proof that Rush is an ass and that the controversy over birth control is about demeaning women who step out of their place.

Rush Limbaugh called the woman who was denied the right to speak at a controversial contraception hearing a "slut" on Wednesday.

"Can you imagine if you were her parents how proud...you would be?" he said. "Your daughter ... testifies she's having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control pills and she wants President Obama to provide them, or the Pope."

He continued:"What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex -- what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

Limbaugh then said, "ok, so she's not a slut. She's round-heeled." "Round-heeled" is an old-fashioned term for promiscuity.

He knows damn well that her comments weren't about promoting casual sex. In the quote that I heard, she was discussing the fact that the pil is prescribed for nonsexual reasons. His comment is meant to shame women into shutting up so that they will not make too many waves.

He did more than that: he said today that if Sandra Fluke wants access to birth control through her health insurance, she should have to post videos of herself engaged in the sex acts that those contraceptives allow her to engage in on the internet so that he and others who share his POV can watch. :shock:

His comment was meant to demean her. It has nothing to do with his personal attraction to her or any woman. He just wants to shame her so badly that she shuts up. By mocking her, he hopes to keep any woman from talking out on the issue.

Rush Limbaugh could see a deal with prosecutors in a long-running prescription fraud case collapse after authorities found a bottle of Viagra in his bag at Palm Beach International Airport. The prescription was not in his name.

Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at the airport after returning from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. Customs officials found the Viagra in his luggage but his name was not on the prescription, said Paul Miller, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Miller said the alleged violation could be a second-degree misdemeanor. The sheriff's office was investigating and will soon turn the case over to the state attorney's office, which had no immediate comment Tuesday.

Limbaugh has basically called 99% of US-American women sluts. Birth control is overwhelmingly common, even in monogamous marriages (not that he would know anything about that). I really hope all this anti-BC nonsense has a major backlash, but I'm concerned that instead 99% of women will still use it but will only talk about it in hushed tones. What's so ironic is that Rush's audience are supposed to be the "principled" ones, as opposed to we ebil libruls.

Nothing will happen to him. With almost anyone else, either of these statements would be a bridge too far, but Rush's audience apparently has no standards whatsoever. Hopefully, his advertisers do.

Why don't any of these idiots get that just because you're on birth control doesn't mean you're having sex every fucking day. I have friends who take it to regulate periods or to help treat their PCOS. Are they filthy sluts too?

I was prescribed BC as a 13 year old to deal with some heavy menstrual problems. I didn't use it ( long story) but the idea that someone who does/did for whatever reason is a slut is absolutely beyond me. I don't like Rush and won't be voting for him, but- That website flat out says that they cannot vouch for the accuracy of that list. They also do not provide evidence to support their statement that these are Rush financial supporters.

I have no clue if they themselves are generally reliable in their claims.

Call me a skeptic, but I don't take unsupported statements at face value - one way or the other.

Rush is not running for office. Thank goodness. He is an American radio personality who is known for saying stupid things. The term feminazis originated with him. If I am not mistaken, he has also made racist comments.

As far as the sponsors, I used to listen to a lot of talk radio and those are the sponsors that I remember. However, I provided a link to a second list also.

Because I don't like boycotts, I think that a better way would be to write the advertisers and explain why you find Rush's comments prejudice against women. The writer can ask why the company supports someone like Limbaugh. I am trying to word such a letter myself.

I don't want to but if anyone needs confirmation, I will listen to Rush today and tomorrow. It should be easy to write down the sponsors.
