(CW: Child Sex Abuse) Josh & Anna 29: Left with Nothing but a Flip Phone Full of Shame

Judging by the paperwork released last night his lawyers will probably try to argue that him having his phone taken before he could call a lawyer was a violation of his rights. They included the line "While this is neither the time nor the place to litigate possible constitutional violations arising from this incident" after detailing what happened. It's good to know that shouldn't be an issue though.

@Antimony, it's because I'm not part of his case so being on a snark site I've already convicted him and found him to be evil and dangerous and want him to finally face consequences.

I think if my kid was taking piano lessons from Mrs. Reber, I might have them take some time off.

I'd be declaring my kids tone deaf with no hope of recovery.

Well. That was ... a lot to take in. All I’ve got is that I honestly don’t know anyone that I could ask to rearrange their entire lives and take in a pedophile and they’d say yes. Much less a non-family member. Even less a non-family member who’d do so over the clear objections and at the expense of the other persons living in their home.

So what do we suppose the Duggars offered these fine folks for this “favor”? Cause friendship and ministry only go so far.

I was thinking the same.  If this was me I don't have one person in my life who would either post bail or upend their life to let me move in.  Not one.

i think it was the adult daughter who was giving lessons? and the lessons will be moved to elsewhere.

regardless, i'd pull them out so fast, it'd break the damn sound barrier. i wouldn't want my kid taking lessons at all from someone who is willing to support someone like josh.

Couple of questions. Was a dollar amount set for his bail? Does anyone know how far the babysitters live from the TTH? Can Josh drive to church? Drive to visit Anna and the kids? So many questions.

It's nice that he'll be out for Mother's Day.

I don't understand this.  The children did not sin. And weren't necessarily believers. I get that this is meant to be comforting,  but to a non-evangelical like me, it's just wtf.

Maybe Deanna means JB has led Josh to sin, by the f**cked up way he raised him?

Oh!! Y'all, go read the People article. Josh had an iPhone, not a flip phone, and his comments to the investigators when they arrived at the car lot were....illuminating. seriously. He actually asked them if they were there because someone had downloaded child porn...and when they asked him if HE had done so/viewed any, he said he'd rather not answer that question.

And...the very scary thing... he pulled out his iPhone and they took it as evidence. He said he wanted to call his lawyer, but apparently there was no other phone? So this maybe a procedural error. Please, let this not be something g that gets the case thrown out...ironically, if he HAD a flip phone, he probably could have kept it. So, legal eagles...what rule is primary? Do they get to confiscate evidence even if it means he can't contact an attorney immediately as they have taken all his devices?? (Please say the danger of him deleting evidence is greater than his right to his phone. Oh, how I want that to be true...)

The flip phone reference is the the phone the court will allow Smugs to have.  He can't be near any tech that can get him on the internet.

As for his smart phone, it was taken as evidence as part of the FBI raid.  He was not arrested at the time and was allowed to leave and make his call to his attorney from somewhere else.  No worries about procedural errors as long as they had a warrant to search and seize all of this internet enabled devices.

It is so clear that none of the people monitoring are likely to report if he does anything that violates the terms... they will try to pray it away or hide it rather than contact authorities. What a mess.

If I lived in Arkansas I would stalk his ass and the minute he violated is turn his ass in bcuz you know damn well his family won’t!

I'd teach my kid at home with wax paper on a comb, just like I learned...

Feds take years to build a case to make sure it’s air tight hence there high conviction rate!  I bet my last dollar he’s not walking away from this trial!

So this is why TLC are running? And the Duggars have been super quiet about Justin and Jed?

TLC must have known something was up, so were treading carefully. And Jim-bob too, having that weird religious Easter special thing with only the financially dependent kids there.

I guess my question is: as josh is allowed to leave his custodians' property for church, and he usually attends church with the Duggars, who homechurch at the TTH - is this a loophole that might allow him back into the TTH? Or can he be forced to find a new church while he's awaiting trial?

I think he has to find a new church. The Reddit summary of the conditions says he can’t go to the TTH. It also says “no contact with minor children,” but what is contact, exactly? He’s allowed to go out in the world for several reasons, specifically including church, and there are almost always kids at church. It may be different here because he hasn’t been convicted, but it’s common for people who are on sex offender registries to be unable to attend church because they’re not supposed to be around minors. A few churches have adults-only services as a ministry to them.

I hope people who cancel their children's lessons are blunt about why they're cancelling their lesson. She probably teaches mostly like minded people who wouldn't dare be forthcoming about it but I can still hope.

I was so glad that they let the previous molestation in to be considered, until I realized that even that doesn't matter.

I have very little faith in the justice system as it is...today dropped the bar even lower.

They all do that about the wife and the internet use.  Idk what the Keller's know and when they learned it, but that doesn't point to anything.  It's recommended in their stupid teachings.

Well what I don’t get is that the wife has to submit to the man in all things. So if Anna catches Smugger downloading porn what can she really do about it?

I agree he's not getting out of this, but I can't see a trial.  Especially not after today.  The feds have him dead to rights.  Whether the smug moron gets it yet or not, he'll eventually be faced with taking a deal or ending up with a lot more time.

Too bad he can't go to Illinois and fellowship with the Arndts.  They have nothing but adults in their ministry.  Endless adults.

Question.  Did Caleb Williams ever work at the car lot.  If so I can see Josh trying to blame him.

I just caught up with all the new developments in the Josh Duggar case and I feel nauseous. I had to stop as the details were making my stomach turn, especially now that he is allowed to see his kids as long as Anna is there. Give me a break, Josh is going to think that he is above the law with that and see them without her there.

I'm so comforted by the fact that Anna is the court's supervisor. Now I can sleep well tonight.  The Rebers and Anna "got this" covered, guys. We can all go home now.
