I think Erin was induced with Carson. After him, she just has the babies before due date, so no induction is needed. Holland was born 1 month in advance.

Erin was not induced with Carson. I remember the episode, she woke up contracting, her water broke, Chad rushed her to the hospital and it was discovered she had a placental abruption or something like that causing her labor to progress quickly.

She was going to be induced, but went into labor before it got to that date. Depending on the type of blood thinners she is on during pregnancy, doctors will often try to induce a tiny bit early to avoid the risk of a mother going into labor and delivering on the blood thinner. While it is normally very safe for them to go naturally, stopping the thinners at the right time takes away some of the risk of the mother having a situation where she could bleed out such as with an unplanned C-section, etc.

I remember the scenes at their house when she went into labor with Carson because she kept pulling the blankets up over her head. Chad looked exasperated trying to figure out what he needed to do to get her to the hospital when she was hiding.

Looks like Carlin went for an Erin type of birth with as many of her sisters and others in the room as possible.

“In an instant, my heart was more full than I ever dreamed it could be and we are so incredibly grateful to God that he chose us to be this little girl’s parents.”

This is the kind of language and thinking that must make infertility an extra special kind of hell for fundies. If god CHOSE you to be a child’s parents, then he is also CHOOSING that infertile couples are nobody’s parents. It’s so fucked up. Poor Michaela.

Also, it’s nuts that 7 babies (all girls!) have been born to the Bateses/Duggars in less than 3 months (since Addison on November 2nd)

Carlin has her baby Friday. Meanwhile I’m due on the 5th and wishing I could have a baby even just one day before my due date even once. I always go past my dates, so jealous of people who get to line jump. (Barring extreme prematurity of course.) :my_cry:

I hear you. I have seven weeks left and it is taking forever.

I am interested in the fact that they said she had to be induced due to having the same blood clotting disorder that Erin has when Erin has never been induced. They make it seem like induction is just the default but clearly there’s more to it. Glad she’s healthy (Carlin and baby.)

Erin hasn’t been induced but I think maybe she goes early?

I have a different clotting disorder and they induce to control for bleeding, be able to plan blood thinners, and because clotting issues can sometimes cause IUGR or placenta issues.

As someone who has been made to line jump twice because of bp issues and likely will again with baby #3, I'll just say the grass is always greener. My dream is for everyone to leave me alone and just let my body have this baby when it's good and ready. I've tried to natural birth twice after induction and my body just couldn't do it so c-section x2 for me. It's impossible not to wonder if I'd have had better outcomes if I'd gone into labor on my own. With my first, even though he was born at 37 weeks, he spent a week in NICU because his lungs had not quite caught up to his body size at birth. That was pretty traumatic for me. I wasn't allowed to hold him for days because it would've disturbed his oxygen levels too much. Second baby we did steroid shots and he was fine at 37+1. This LO is due in May and all I want is to get to May 1st if they'll let me (May is my birthday month and I want to share that with her). I'll be 38+4 if that happens and honestly that would feel like a Christmas miracle.

I completely agree with you. While I can’t speak from experience (never wanted to become pregnant and never did), infertility must be an incredibly heavy burden to bear for anyone affected. However, being stuck in what’s essentially a fertility cult and not being able to have a child must be hellish. So in this sense, I do feel for Michael Bates.

On a different note, Carlin and Evan look absolutely smitten and Carlin looks gorgeous!

Oh I’m fully aware that every situation has its challenges and that Carlin has medical complications that made this necessary. I know many would say I’m fortunate to carry to term every time. (Including my mother who has delivered every one of her babies early, sometimes with detrimental results.) I’m just extremely pregnant, tired, and sore and needed to vent today because seeing a woman who was due two weeks after me, give birth three weeks early felt like a real punch to the gut on this day where I feel pretty tired and run down. My pregnancies tend to go one to two weeks past their dates and the angst kills me, especially since once of my babies was born in the car so I’m constantly going “I hope I’ll make it to the hospital this time” for up to two additional weeks during the waiting phase. The anticipation is killing me.

In a week or two+ this will all be over and I’ll be holding a baby in a lot less crabby mood I’m sure. But I still think it would be a very fun treat and surprise to get to deliver even one day or five hours before my estimated due date for once as opposed to two days to two weeks later. Just once...

I share a birthday now with Addison Duggar. It's also Erin and Chad's anniversary.

Just want to add:

It really comes down to the type and dosage of blood thinners.

personal experience with clotting disorder, blood thinner shots and birth under the spoiler.

Spoiler

I have a pretty common gen mutation that means I have to use blood thinners as soon as I find out I am pregnant. There are several ways to medicate. Pills or shots. I was put on shots straight away because of a miscarriage. We had to up the dosage once and I had monthly check ups with a specialist.
Long story short: I was just put on a two-shots-per day medication, 4 weeks before my due date. As soon labour starts you just stop and your hospital can give you a counter medication if needed. No induction needed.

There are several different clotting disorders and patients need different treatments/respond differently.

Having a blood clotting disorder does not necessarily mean you have to induced.

I haven't seen it in a while, but I know there is an episode where Erin was pregnant with Brooklyn and she spoke to Dr. Vick about the epidural (wanting one this time). He made a comment to her about she would be induced and would not go over (I don't remember the timing). However, then we had the episode where she and Alyssa were both due around the same time and Kelly Jo was lamenting trying to be at both births. So who knows which version is true?

My cousin and I have similar clotting disorders. Normally, I didn't have to do meds, as I wasn't pregnant. However, cancer decided to take over and I was put on thinners to make my life easier and less painful before the surgery.  My cousin was induced the day of my hysterectomy and told that the thinners had started giving her and the baby "wonky heart rhythms."

According to his blog, Erin and Chad were going to choose to have an induction with Brooklyn.

https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1127056/bringing-up-bates-season-4-episode-11/

I know the family blog often refers to her plans to be induced due to her high risk pregnancies.

I am with Tori Bates, so I lost it before I even knew about them. I take comfort in being in a different hemisphere, so hopefully with the time difference my birthday had already passed.

Gotta love how the newborn pictures focus on the couple and the actual baby is somewhere in the corner of the background.

Layla is peeking out like "Hello?? Guys? Big milk thing? Anyone??“ And Carlin in full makeup and fresh manicure kissing the fundie Zoolander... Get used to it kid.

That’s typical. As much as the adore or love their children they believe the relationship between husband and wife is soul and center of the family.

Nah the other couples at least put the kiddo in the centre of the picture when they do that sort of pic and don't sqish it to the side.

This should be the one day where the baby should be the main feature, it'll be only downhill from here trust me, nothing but an accessoire.
