Nice to see you back in action, @47of74!  Amazing how much snow you’ve had in the area.

We had just over 80 inches this year. Right now it’s the 8th snowiest on record.  Stand by. I should have my post work ride video up in a few hours.

Went on a post work bike ride.  Stopped for a few minutes and some fucker stole my bike.  Yet another thing to replace.  I'm going to get several more u-locks for the replacement.  Police gave me a ride home while the place I was at basically said sucks to be you and half expected me to walk home.

With an ebike though he may find it a bit harder to get rid of since I've been spreading the S/N out and around and he doesn't have a recharging cord or the key to release the battery.  Plus there were some mechanical issues going on too.  Still if he figured out how to turn it on he could've gotten pretty far.

Going to have to check with my insurance now to see if they can help or if I'm on the hook for it.  My sister still has my old non ebike and she had asked if I still wanted it a couple months ago.  I told her then just to send to take it up to mom's sometime so I'd have a bike to ride on down there.

I'm sorely tempted to find as many Twin Cities based pages as I can and post this not so friendly reminder.

I'm pretty sure my bike is still over $1,000 so that gets into felony territory and if any idiot stupid enough to buy my bike plans on some lawyer pleading down not if I have any say in the matter.

It looks like my condo policy will mostly cover the bike.

Went to a Trek dealer after work today.  Saw a step-through (aka low step) Verve+3 that was pretty nice and was nice and easy to ride.  Just rode it around the parking lot.  Wish I could've done a proper test drive but oh well.  My old one was a large and the guy said I looked like I was more comfortable on the medium I tried so I think once I get the insurance lined up I'll be back to get that one.  I asked him what the different between the 3 and 4 was and he said mainly it was the display.

My old one had some mechanical problems.  The front brake was wearing out plus if I was in a lower gear there was some noises.  Plus there is no way for the bastard to charge it or detach the battery so the dealer rep said it would not be outside the realm of possibility the son of a bitch shows up wanting the bike fixed at one of their stores which case the police would be coming by fairly soon to have a conversation with him.

The guy at the bike shop told me they had a bike stolen from the shop which they tried to get back before the guy brought it to the bike shop for repairs.  Yeah, that fucker went to jail for a while and they turned the girl involved into state's evidence.  Said fucker is doing restitution while in the can to the bike shop.  Crazy thing is the bike belonged to a local prosecutor.  He's conflicted out but yeah this fuck motivated every other prosecutor in the state to get that fuck sent away.

Sorry for swearing so fucking much but my fuck stick tolerance is very, very, very, very low right now.

Went to a few bike shops today to see what was out there and did a couple test rides.  So about six miles of riding total.  I still think I like the Verve I saw the other day the most.  I filed a claim on my stolen bike so that's out there now plus gave everyone including Jesus Christ and his brother the SN off my old bike.  I hope the fornicator that stole my bike makes a stupid mistake and winds up having the fuzz come by to talk to him and give him a couple nice metal bracelets for his wrists.  Hell, I hope he makes a stupid mistake period and has to visit the nearest greybar hotel.  Now just to wait until next week to see what they do with my claim.

Good news on the claim front.  They called me today and asked a couple questions.  Then said they'll deposit the funds into my account soon so I'll be out and riding around again.  Of course with a trunk bag stuffed past fornicating full of all sorts of different locks.  I already checked at work about how much they watch the bike area at work to make sure they really have cameras watching the racks even so they just said so the other day.  (If I can make it so the manager comes along and asks why I'm being such a jerk about my bike I can say fornicate you I just had a $3000 bike stolen so I'm past done with nice so much the better).

I'll be locking my bike a bit more than before but if these sticks of fornicate think their behavior is going to keep me from riding my bike around the twin cities they can just go and fornicate themselves with every tool in the garden shed possible.  I'm not giving these fornicate manure dumps the satisfaction of being too scared to ride just because of them.  If I didn't listen to my doctors who said just sit at home, do no exercise, and wait for the end I'm sure as fornicate not going to be scared of these fornicating thieves.  I'm going to continue my two wheel money sink activity no matter what these fornicates think.

Last night one of the local bike shop guys called me and said they built the medium bike they got built early. So I went up and tested it after work today.

I went out to the river and back. About 1.8 miles from the bike shop so about 3.6 miles total.

Good afternoon for riding too even if a bit windy heading back.

Bike was decent. I don’t think I was as upright on it as I was on the old one. Plus the range isn’t what I had before.

It was nice they built it out but I’m leaning towards the other low step Trek Verve+ 3 now.  It seemed to fit me the best and the salesman said I looked fairly comfortable. The guy at the Trek dealer told me about Project 529 - where people can register their bikes on a national DB and should the bike get swiped owners can report it stolen.  The site works with shops and the fuzz on stolen bikes

Twin Cities is having a 30 day riding challenge so I hope to have a new two wheeled money sink in time for the kickoff ride.

Decided on and went to put some money down on my new bike today.  Here she is. NewRide.thumb.jpg.95a1af778dc5c7b6ae336c6a13cbcca1.jpg

She's a Trek Verve+3 I named Rip Steakface.  (h/t MST3K).  Looking forward to picking her up Thursday or Friday and baptizing her with a proper ride through Twin Cities this weekend.  Especially Sunday since we're supposed to hit 50 degrees.

And oh, yeah.  Bike thieves?  FUCK you.

Picked up my new bike and brought it home.

it’s a low step so I’m not throwing my hips out every time I get on or off.  I have to use an adapter for my rack. I think the guy at the bike shop didn’t have it on quite right because the bike was too low.  He then took the front tire off. So when I got home I couldn’t find a 5mm Allen wrench. So it was over to the hardware store to get another one.  I had a Swiss Army type Allen wrench tool that had a whole lot of different sizes but I think it was with the bike when that fornicate took my bike.  Plus my GoPro mount was on the bike too.

Once it gets nice out again I’ll be back to riding and sharing Timelapse vids.

Bike thieves are the lowest of the low! So good that your household insurance is helping to cover this.

Recommendation in my city, Bike Theft Central, TX, is to lock up your bike with two different kinds of locks, like cable lock and a ULock.   Thieves typically specialize in one or the other and don't carry tools to defeat two completely different types of locks.

Of course, if they hop out of their truck with a battery powered angle grinder, you're SOL.

I've got four locks for my new ride and am looking to expand that soon.  That way if my new ride was unfortunate enough to get swiped I can at least tell the insurance company yeah I had all these locks on my bike.  Also looking into hiding some GPS tags on it too so I can tell them it was tagged that way too.

I registered my new ride with a few registries so at least if someone swipes my new ride I can report it stolen and wait for them to try to sell or fix any issues with the bike.

What I'd really like to see is if a bike owner reports his or her bike stolen that they could call it into the manufacturer, provide the police report number, and the manufacturer could activate a self destruct to melt most of the bike components through the cellular networks and render it useless for methheads looking to sell the whole bike or part it out for their next fix

I think I mentioned this before but I checked at work to see if building security actually watches the bike rack area by the loading dock or not and they told me they did.  They also told me they had some lockers to rent but I didn't want to spend that yet.  I just figure anchor it to multiple points and hope these fucks decide it's not worth the effort.

Went for a few loops around in the underground garage at the condo today.  A 30 days of riding challenge group on FB was going to have their kickoff ride today but they postponed it to the 15th given Mother Nature's behavior these past few hours.  If the weather had been good enough for that today I was going to ride from the condo up to participate in the kickoff ride.

Hell of it is that the weather is nice enough today for riding but a lot of the streets are still all covered with snow and slush.  Main roads are all plowed but side streets are still a mess.  Currently it's 37 and the snow is melting at a good clip right now.

Might take the bike over to church with me tomorrow and do some riding if the weather is nice but we'll have to see.   I don't think the snow will be here too long as daytime temps are supposed to be in the high 30s and 40s for the next few days.  I got invited to a Timberwolves game tomorrow along with parking for a lawyer hiriing networking event so I might take the bike over there and do some riding in D/T Minneapolis before the game.  Along with charging up for my trip back to Iowa next week.

And here's the time lapse of yesterday's ride!

And you can see how fast the white stuff is melting around here since the roads and trails are all pretty much clear and its really melting off yards too now.

I might ebay my existing vehicle rack soon because it's really not built for low step bikes.  There's an adapter for low step bikes but to really use it one needs to take the front wheel off the bike first.  Otherwise the front wheel is just too low and might hit the pavement going in or out of some lots.  If Chevy built the Bolt to accommodate the 2" hitch I never would've gotten rid of my other rack because that worked really well and didn't require a lot of time to take the bike on or off.

Being back in Dubuque I decided to go check out the bike/pedestrian tunnel that had been under construction until after I moved up north.  It went under some railroad tracks by Garfield Ave.  (And really pissed the DBQ area GQP off because it was using public funds for something other than oppressing LGBT and minorities).

BBranchTunnel.jpg.d00ce7f20be83e775965316749ebb86e.jpg

If I still lived in CovidKimIsStan yeah I'd probably be using that tunnel on a regular basis.  One of my few regrets about moving north is that the tunnel wasn't open before I moved.  But this visit I was able to go down this afternoon and go for a walk through the new tunnel.  I'm hoping sometime to get a job that will allow me to come down and visit family and have some PTO to use so I can do more stuff around town and/or with my family.

Seriously 47 you think you got enough locks there?

First time this year I was able to go out riding without a coat.  Snow is pretty much gone.  Just a few piles here and there.   I’ll have the time lapse up later.

And here's the time lapse of yesterday's ride.  I mounted the GoPro on the helmet this time.

Didn't turn out as well as I hoped but still pretty much all the snow was gone.

This afternoon's post work bike ride;

Feeling a bit under the weather today and a bit tired so  didn't go out as far but the forecast is for cooler weather so I did want to get one more ride in today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got my first ride in today since fracturing my big toe to go get some taco sauce from Target.

Just under 5.8 miles total.  Didn't hurt at all.  I don't have to go into the office Wednesday but I'm playing with riding my bike up to the office.  The firm is giving up a floor at work - which just so happens to be the one my cubical is on.  Since 90% of my work is remote I don't have a whole lot at the office but I still want to go up ahead of time.

Glad you are pain free and able to get out and about again.  How many locks are you using on those bike racks?

At the very least two.  Most times three or four.

And today's post work bike ride.

Went out to the Mississippi River and then back.  Just over 10 miles today.  Bit chilly out today.  I'm still thinking tomorrow I'm going to ride to and from work.

Took one look at my nightstand clock and the temperature it was reporting (32°) and decided to just work from home today and not ride the bike in.  I might head south this evening on the bike after work.  I haven't made up my mind 100% yet.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Giraffe

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
