Gwen Shamblin 2: Divorce? What Divorce?

The suicides and alcohol abuse make me so sad. I assumed these sorts of things happened in Remnant and were never properly handled (therapy, medication, rehab, medical treatment) but to see the proof makes me so sad for these young people. They never had a chance.

No I absolutely do not think alcoholism is funny whatsoever. Just thought this was funny considering the topic of Remnant and parties and such.

That I don’t know. But I do know that leaders Tedd and Candace Anger have started some side hustle called Rare Wine Specialists where they locate rare wines and find buyers; they host wine tastings and such. Drinking is definitely part of the Remnant (viti)culture

OMGosh! They even mention Gwen Shamblin on their webpage!

http://store.weighdown.com/Remnant-HomeSchool-Co-op-Registration-20172018-P2707.aspx

Authorization and Release Video and Audio Recording and Photography

I understand that the above-named child(ren) will participate in activities on property owned or leased by the Remnant Fellowship, and that some/all of these activities may be recorded via video, audio, or photography for future inclusion in any variety of materials produced by Remnant Fellowship or Weigh Down Ministries. I hereby grant Remnant Fellowship and Weigh Down Ministries the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to utilize my child(ren)’s appearance, testimony, voice, or any reproduction thereof in connection with produced materials in any and all manner and media. I agree that Remnant Fellowship and Weigh Down Ministries will own the copyright of any materials produced. I expressly release Remnant Fellowship and Weigh Down Ministries, as well as their owners, operators, agents, employees, licensees, and assigns from and against any and all claims – past, present, and future --- which my child may have for invasion of privacy, defamation, personal injury or other cause of action arising out of the production, distribution, and/or broadcast of materials produced by these agents.

1) Why would a homeschool co-op need to utilize any childs appearance, testimony or voice for any materials? They aren't advertising the homeschool co-op, so it's not like they need a billboard or video.

2) Can a parent waive the childrens right to invasion of privacy or defamation, personal injury? Any why would an umbrella homeschool situation ever have cause to defame or invade the privacy of it's student?

3) Funny how further down they make sure to specifically name the Shamblin family as who could not be held accountable if you sign this piece of paper. (So is Joe a Shamblin now? or is she a Lara?)

I find it disturbing that homeschooled children in Williamson county do not have to register with Williamson County Schools if under the umbrella of a church organization.

Not only do they mention her, but it looks like she might be in one of the pictures, under "Wine Tasting Events."  Might be, but I'm not certain that that woman with the huge blonde hair is her.  From what I saw on the page, it also looks like Rob and Tiffani Day (aren't they higher-ups in Remnant, too?) are involved with this whole venture.  If I'm right about those two being the Days of Remnant, then I find it ironic that restaurant owners, who you would think would want you to eat well, are involved with an organization that basically wants its members to starve themselves.

I bet most of the women get drunk off of one glass of wine at these Remnant events. Since they aren’t allowed to eat much and are already on the thin side.

I’m by no means a Christian legalist, and I love a good glass — or three — of wine. But is this the kind of business you’d expect from church leaders?

“MATCHING THE RAREST WINES WITH THE MOST EXCLUSIVE COLLECTORS.

RED CARPET EVENTS.

EXCLUSIVE WINE TASTINGS.

Rare Wine Specialists is dedicated to locating the rarest wines and matching them with the most exclusive collectors and sophisticated investors.  We give you the opportunity to own a legend. In addition, our team covers red carpet wine events, and organizes private wine tastings.”

Alcoholic drinks have a TON of carbs, sugar, and calories. You'd think Gwen would make such things verboten.

Personally I've considered completely cutting booze from my diet to see how much weight I could really lose by doing that, but...I just love wine and G&Ts too much.

Oh those are Remnant people and Gwen for sure in that pic. And I wonder who this secret person is they talk about who they learned from who has 20 years experience? LOL  Anyone read the reviews for the City Cafe. Some are pretty rough. "tastes like everything came from a can", ect.

So wait -- 2 young, nearly life-long RF men committed suicide this Spring!?.  That's .... um.... concerning. They must have been in such pain.  I do hope they are both at peace.

The timeline for Jake Gormsen from 2013 -- 1st arrest for DUI (passed out drunk in an intersection in a running car), 2015 loses appeal of DUI conviction, April 2017 2nd arrest (probation violation for ??)  -- to his death this spring seems swift and devastating and sad.  The whole thing took only 5 years.

The 2017 arrest gives his age as 25. I'm surprised he wasn't already married.

I knew him during my time there. This did not start in 2013. He was involved in drugs and drinking way before that. The crowd I was involved with didn’t really mess with his crowd because they were bad news. He was the son of two prominent leaders and I’m sure felt enormous pressure to stay in the church and try to follow the teachings. His older sister was heavily praised for her obidience and blessings so he had a high bar to reach. He was in and out of remnant secretly (granted everyone knew) but he was always considered the prodigal son every time he returned (because he ran out of money, or had to move back home, or went to remnant only to make his parents happy, etc). In the end, he was around 25 at the time of his death.

Not only he but a few other RF leadership children (now adults) were involved with a lot of alcohol and drug abuse years ago. Unfortunately for some of these young men / women, the terrible habits that they developed when they were in their teens / young adults has carried over into their mid / late adulthood and has also effected their marriage. Jake Gormsen’s situation (aside from the suicide/OD) is uncommon in RF but not surprising/shocking to those who know the true nature of the struggles people go through while in RF.

This video — involving problem drinking and leadership children — from a You Can Overshow last spring is totally alarming.

Quick summary: This man and wife are both children of leaders and in their mid to upper 20s. He is shamed into confessing gets to testify that he was hiding a serious alcohol problem. He got caught when he disgraced his leadership families embarrassed himself in a drunken incident during a church vacay. (Start around minute 8.)

He says he is white-knuckling it has not had a drink in 30 days and is basically claiming it’s a miracle from Gwen God. Like he’s basically all healed. The title is even called Change Your Life in 30 Days!

Anyone familiar with recovery knows  a successful 30 days is very significant first step, BUT it’s just a start. Most will go on to drink again, especially if they don’t have a solid sobriety plan in place.

If I had the time and resources I would link to all the times he has professed this particular sin to the church. From my memory there were atleast 5 times when I was a member....remember those circles I talked about? He was in the same one as Jake Gormsen.

Well not only struggling with what every normal teenager struggles with, but to live in a community where people know where you go to church and where you may go to the public school but are not allowed to associate with regular people(even though you may want to). To know you would never be allowed to leave that place for fear of being shunned by your parents or treated differently but not knowing anyone outside of remnant, you have no support system in the community so its probably very overwhelming. I always told my daughter we would help her boyfriend get out if he every wanted to. Unfortunately his dad is one of the biggest assholes/truly evil people I've ever met, so I could guarantee he would be shunned by his parents. I can't imagine his mom doing it but she seems like she would do whatever her husband tells her to do.

If you can share, are his parents church leaders/ headers of ministries, etc?

Also ......

@RFsurvivor Were these 5 times over a few years -- every time he was able to remain 30-days sober?  To your knowledge has he remained sober or is he still drinking?

They are not anything according to the website however they've been going there so long he seems pretty in tuned and everyone I've spoke of knows of the asshole and has a story to tell about him, so there's that. Maybe that's what's up his butt, that he's not trusted enough or thin enough to be in that inner circle. I'm such an antagonist.......

Legally speaking, I’d be careful not to speculate on a private individual’s current state of sobriety without facts.

There are no arrest/court records that I’ve seen and he has not offered any recent public testimony that I’ve witnessed.

The more I read about Hairzilla telling anyone who’s gained a few they can’t go to church, I find myself fantasizing about the Fat Acceptance movement getting ahold of all this info and staging a huge (pun very much intended) group of people to start showing up at events. Because it would be hysterical. :pb_lol:

If your "meals" consist of licking a few chips, you have PLENTY of calories left for the booze ;)

if you get told to "step out" (is that the right term?) of services and what not for being overweight, what happens if you don't lose that weight or gain more weight?

Do you eventually get asked to leave RF altogether?   What happens to people that live in the area of the church/RF "conclave," but have been asked to leave?  Are they pressured to move so an RF family can move into the special RF area of town?
