Somebody who went to El Salvador with SOS posted a bit of her experience on her blog. I feel sorry for the guards who had to listen to their nonstop proselytizing. Peyton Weiss comments and it sounds like she was on the trip, too.

livinglifeforchristalone.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-peak-into-mission-trip-guards.html

So according to this idiot who wrote the blog post, these guards are "going to hell because they aren't good people." And the reasons why they aren't good people, you might ask? Well, because many of these guards came from broken homes, dontcha know. They wear masks and live in hiding while off duty because they don't want to be recognized by gang members who could hunt and kill them later. Many of them are directionless after serving with the military for six years because work is scarce.

But unless these men are willing to listen to the SOS brand of proselytizing and promise to embrace Christ, then rest assured, they are going to hell. Oh, and there's no mention of the gang members going to hell for terrorizing and killing the local population.

If any of the missionaries from Mike Schadt's group are reading this right now, I hope you realize that you, in your arrogance, come from a position of privilege. You don't know what it's like to live in a war zone, or to have your basic rights stripped away. You don't know what it is to be hungry and wonder how you will possibly be able to find work in an unstable economy. No, you just think it's more important to travel internationally and harass the locals for not being the right kind of Christians, instead of actually doing anything to help. You would rather tell people that hell yawns before them instead of doing anything meaningful.

You are all disgusting, and deserve every bit of the pushback you get for being useless and entitled.

Jill just posted on IG that they are headed back to Central America. Looks like Joy and Carlin Bates are joining them.

I was just coming in to post that. And SOS doesn't have any "missions trips" scheduled until December. soshope.org/serve-overseas/

Jim Bob and Michelle are so obnoxious.

Yes, Derick's speech and mouth do seem compromised. Wow. I hope this turns out okay in the end. I thought he looked fine before, but I am not at all familiar with this type of surgery/orthodontia.

Maybe he got some routine adjustment made to his orthodontics while here and he's still sore and/or frozen? Seems like there wasn't enough time for a dental visit during a weekend visit that included NYC business and a wedding, though!

I love that one of the leghumpers wrote "Have a great time!" which is something that you write when someone goes off to have fun or goes on vacation. Hilarious. Even their fans know it is just as much about having a fun adventure as it is about "doing the Lord's work."

I knew it would not be long before Joy was sent to be Jill's mommy helper. I guess Joy is done with homeschool? so what else is she going to do.

Well of course Joy is going with Jill. Parents don't raise their own children in Duggarville, they just pump them out like Pez. It's time for Jill to get to work on making baby number two and Izzy is in the way. Now Izzy can sleep with Joy and Jill and Derrick and have a room all to themselves.

You are probably right about Joy being done with homeschool. I assume she will not be getting a GED.

It will be interesting to see if they are all back for Amy's September wedding.

IMO< it will speak volumes if they all rushed to a Bate's wedding, but do not do so for their own cousin.

I was reading this and thinking, so you (the author of the blog) are aware that you are basically putting the guards' lives in danger by being there and so instead of, I don't know...leave...you decide it is them that need to be converted first? Mission trip within a mission trip. That is some fundie inception stuff right there.

(from the blog post)

"It seemed to us that the guards all had something in common: they knew they were going to hell when they died, because they knew they were not good people. Usually, they were from broken homes."

EXCUSE ME???? Who told them that they were "bad people"? I'm pretty sure it was you (the author/team).

And also the "and usually they were from broken homes."... It's making it sound like they are bad people for not having had a two parent household.

the overall tone of that entire blog post left me with an uneasy feeling.

I just saw Rescinded and Mended's post after I posted mine. We made some of the same posts. Sorry for not reading all the responses on here first. I meant to (and usually do) but I had clicked the link from the article and got so grrrrr that I had to share my two cents. Sorry about that.

Wait...Michaela's having her mother as one of her bridesmaids? That seems kind of different, since Kelly Bates is mother of the bride. I've never seen that in a wedding before.

Are any of Michaela's brothers married to a woman named Kelly?

It is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. Usually the Mother of the Bride has a special role already. In some countries the MofB has a definite place to fulfill in the marriage ceremony. It is weird to have your mom as a bridesmaid.

Ugh that blog is horrible. It is like religious porn where idiots ejaculate once they get someone to admit they are a sinner:

It seemed to us that the guards all had something in common: they knew they were going to hell when they died, because they knew they were not good people. Usually, they were from broken homes.

I want to stab my eyes with pins after reading that. I love how she connects being from broken homes with being bad people. She probably did not mean that---but that is how it comes across.

From Joy's reaction to Jill getting married and especially when she left for her mission trip -- it seems like she will be ecstatic to spend time with her sister. Too bad they didn't send poor little Jenny too.

I would think Joy would have graduated high school at the beginning of the Summer if she turns 18 shortly ? The Duggars have said before that all of the kids get their GED , I don't know why Joy would be any different ? Unless they are in a state where you have to be 18 to take it. Or if she is still in high school I'm sure there isn't anything she can't manage herself or with Jill's and Derrik's help.

Wow. Assholes. Shitty, abusive parents.

One of our first interactions with the Duggars, before even their first special, was when my mom had twin babies and was having a really rough time with them. One of the biggest problems was that they would never sleep at the same time. A friend directed her to Michelle for advice, and Michelle just recommended blanket training. It really upset my mom to think of doing that to her babies, and so her impression of the Duggars was fairly negative from then on. I guess she felt like Michelle was dismissive about the problem, and even then (early 2000's) my mom said it was pretty clear Michelle didn't really take care of her own children.

When I went to Michelle's blog to check out the videos, I got a warning from my virus/security program waning me that their page was engaging in harmful activities. This is the first time that I got that warning and I have been there more than a couple of times.

edit: one other thing. Notice that blouse that Michelle is wearing? Isn't that the same eye-trapping blouse that she tooled around in NYC wearing?

So she wandered around the hot and dirty streets of NYC in that blouse--traveled to TN--attended a wedding and is STILL wearing that dirty, sweaty blouse? Where is her lime green one?

I find it so disrespectful not to properly dress up to attend something important like a wedding. It says "I care so little about you that I could not even be bothered to wear a clean blouse for the most important event in your life thus far".

I would love to talk with these guards and get their version of events, because no way do I believe that many--if any--of them converted. It's so much more likely that they have orders to be polite to the rich gringos, so they nod and play along with their earnest conversion attempts. I can just imagine them laughing and mocking the missionaries when they're among themselves.

I think it's simpler than that. I am pretty sure they're all Catholic (including the majority of "gang members" they have been "sharing Christ" with)...here's how I imagine it:

fundie tells guard they're a bad person blah blah blah (how dare they come from "Broken Homes"?) but if they believe in Jesus, all their sins will be forgiven and they will enter the kingdom of God when they die for the white group of saviors they're working for.

Guard is like  and thinks...I already believe in Jesus but...if it'll shut them up...

fundie "so whats it gonna be? you gonna stay bad, or what?"

guard :shifty:  "sure..yay Jesus!"

fundie "I am the savior of them all! mwuahaha"

No problem, it happens around here. :) I sometimes get ninja'd by another poster who beats me to the same thoughts and ideas first because we posted at around the same time. :wink-kitty:

This reminds me of a story my friend told me. A couple of months ago, she attended her cousin's wedding. A friend of the cousin was doing a heavy construction job that day, and after he got off work, he just showed up at the wedding. He didn't freshen up or bring a change of clothes. He just sat in the church and at the reception in his dirty, sweaty clothes and overpowered everyone with his stinkiness.

I mean, I can see being worried about running late for a wedding and not having a lot of time to run home and shower, but if it were me, I would have planned ahead. Clothes and toiletry items, including deodorant, would have been packed that morning in the car. After work, I would have barricaded myself in a public bathroom on the way to the wedding and scrubbed myself down using the sink, including a shampoo if necessary.

So much more respectful to everyone in attendance to be neat and clean.

UGGGGGG, I recently had to do just this. I flew across the country to meet my hubs and he had arranged a dinner out with some of his new co-workers and their spouses. We needed to go directly from the airport without a stop to refresh. I pulled that sink shower, makeup, clothing change in the restaurant BR...I could have killed him.

I don't know why but Jill seems miserable lately. In every photo I see she looks awkward and just out of it, especially in the Congratulations Video. I mean, she always was awkward but used to be more bubbly.

Indeed! They probably just took whatever the missionaries were dishing out just to get them to stop talking after a while. It's like these fundies think they are fighting the Crusades again - just because locals don't believe in your flavor of Christianity doesn't mean they don't know anything about religion or belief.

And I read the blog and so wanted to comment that she means PEEK in the title and the first line - and the crazy thing is she used it correctly halfway through the post! (Sorry, I am a bit of a grammar freak.)
