The only rationality I can come up with around Anna and her parent's even entertained the possibility of getting involved with Josh Duggar, is the fact her family works in prison ministry.

Anna's dad would be interacting with criminals all the time. Hearing stories of redemption from sin is actually his life's work, it's what he hopes for in his job. Like most prison workers, I am sure he has become desensitised over the years to stories of criminal/deviant behaviour. As a pastor in a prison, he wouldn't have judged Josh so harshly for incest/molestation. He has to believe that people can be saved from such deviance, or else why would he devote his life to prison ministry?

I suspect this is why the Keller family approved of Josh and the Duggar family at the time... Anna has been involved in prison ministry too, so I suspect they actually admired Josh and they saw it as his 'testimony for Christ.'

I don't know much about Ben's family, but I hope that his mother is doing the same for Jessa. And I really hope that someone is reaching out to Jana, Jinger, and Joy. It would be nice to know that those girls are being looked after by someone who honestly cares about them.

In all honesty, JD is their protector. I think JD has been trying to protect Jana and his other sisters in his own quiet way. I believe he knew what Josh did, he knew it was wrong but as young as he was, he did not know what to do about it. In some ways he was a victim of Josh too. I'm sure Josh tried using control and power over JD like he did the girls. Josh is an abuser, emotional and physical abuser. He fits the profile perfectly.

Well, the media loves you on the way up, and crucifies you on the way down.

The Today Show opened with the Duggars as their second lead story tease, but waited until the second half hour into the show to do the actual report titled "Bombshell Apology."

Entertainment Weekly also picked up on the story and how TLC was running a 19 Kids marathon while the news dropped (titled "TLC airs 19 Kids and Counting marathon after Josh Duggar child molestation allegations") and that people are ticked:

ew.com/article/2015/05/22/tlc-airs-19-kids-marathon-josh-duggar-molestation

I can understand why people are pissed about that marathon, in the past cable channels would change programming when certain things came up.

Many people right now aren't happy with TLC.

Do you think the Duggars might try a distraction, like when Jill announced her pregnancy really quickly after the Dugars had gotten some bad press (I don't remember what it was. Gah! It worked!)

They would have to go big to overshadow this. Something maybe like Jana is courting Prince Harry or JD won the 200 million Powerball. It would have to be something literally huge and over the top to even remotely knock this story back a few notches.

I think TLC can argue that there is a big difference between the Duggar and Honey Boo Boo situation. Honey Boo Boo involved a convicted and registered sex offender. You have to register as a sex offender because it is believed that you may still be a danger to your community. Josh Duggar was never charged or convicted for what he did, and he is certainly not a registered sex offender. Whether rightly or wrongly (definitely wrongly), the police decided that Josh was not a danger to the community nor were the claims serious enough to charge him with. Children were not even removed from the home, and the victims claimed they forgave him and felt safe living with him. If I remember, the close victim of Mama June's partner was appalled, had not forgiven him, and was disgusted at the idea of potentially being in the same room as the pedophile.

Though personally I think the show should be cancelled, I can see TLC arguing a very different perspective. The Honey Boo Boo case is not the same as Josh Duggar's.

While I don't think Mama June should have any say in the matter, I don't agree that this is a "better" situation for TLC.

Josh, a featured player, is an admitted child molester who sexually assaulted his sisters who are also prominently featured on the show. Every time a viewer looks at the perp or one of his victims, they'll be thinking of this. And he has little daughters. Add in the holier-than-thou "aren't-we-the-most-wholesome-family in America" crap, and you have a serious cluster, one that is just as bad, if not worse, than the HBB situation.

***Edited to add that the reason the police didn't charge Josh was because the statute of limitations had run by the time they investigated. The first cop was a friend of Jim Bob's who was heavily into kiddie porn himself. He did not report the incident to CPS as was required and it sounds like he kept the whole thing to himself. So it's not accurate to say they didn't think Josh was a danger; there was nothing they could do legally to charge him at that point.

I watched The Today Show coverage and GMA coverage this morning. Neither of them mentioned that Josh's sisters were part of his "teenaged mistakes".

The Today Show did say that Boob and DQ *might* have known about the "mistakes" a year or longer before going to the police, but they were waiting for confirmation on that from the Duggars, who did not return their call.

I guess this chapter of the oldest Duggar girls "dating" book got left on the editing room floor. Thank goodness DQ's bulimia challenges made it in.

It sounds like Josh was made to confess what he did and ask for forgiveness in front of his church. I imagine when he told the Keller's, the Duggar's just had to trust they would not expose the information if they decided to walk away. I think it is interesting that someone wrote a letter and left it in a book in the Duggar home. (Or at the church.) It is almost like they hoped someone would find it someday and turn them in.

MisUndrstd - I agree about JD and what you said. Knowing what we know now, JD's statements of how he protects Jana from potential suitors makes a lot more sense. I think him and Josiah were probably very stunted by Josh and his actions.

Someone way earlier was asking about advertisers on the show.

Did not find a list but my google fu skills aren't up to par.

The following this was taken from this morning's reruns. I've already deleted last Tuesday's shows from my DVR or I'd suck it up, fast forward through clips and talking to get a list of the advertisers during those 2 shows.

From reruns this morning:

Ace Hardware

Party City

Arm & Hammer (cat litter)

King's Hawaiian

Cortizone 10

Progressive Insurance

Kohl's (department store)

Choice Hotels (choicehotels.com)

Firehouse Subs

Philadelphia Cream Cheese

Pure Leaf Tea

Walgreen's

Minute Maid ( part of the COCA COLA COMPANY!)

Payless Shoes

Beauty Rest Matress

Sherwin WIlliams

Frontline Plus - flea control.

Hope this helps for those of you wanting to contact the advertisers.

Of course, this explanation is far more concise (and makes more sense) than anything I've read in the media. I've seen all of these pieces in stories... but not put together in a rational manner like this. As I said in my post, there is no good overview of this story out there and, I am sorry, but it's really hard to follow the threads of this through the FJ forums. I love the site, but it's just not set up to handle the torrent of information that comes out with a bombshell like this.

So, thanks for the summation, VelociRapture.

Oh I completely agree. I was under the impression that there had been an initial investigation for a while as well. It was only when I took a close look at the police report that I realized what had actually happened.

These threads move very fast, so I completely get it. Its tough trying to figure everything out.

I can buy the story that they told Anna about it before she married Josh. However I don't think that they told her everything, that it involved molesting five different girls on several occasions and that the youngest one may have been four at the time.

I don't think they said that. I think they gave her and her family a glossed over version about what happened or talked about it in very vague terms like Josh had "sinned" or "been tempted" or that there had been "inappropriate contact with a girl" without any details.

It's not even sure that Anna has an understanding of what sibling incest is if she grew up in a very sheltered home so the thoght that Josh would have done something sexual to four (!) of his younger sisters may have been something that was completely unthinkable to her.

I grew up in a normal home but I remember when my mother explained to me what incest and pedophilia was, after I read about it in a tabloid as a kid and I was completely shocked that something like that even existed. To me it was just unthinkable and just as inexplicable as if someone had told me that aliens land on our lawn every night or something.

I do believe the Duggar family presented her and her family with a completely different story than what we are reading about now.
