This article makes it sound like Michelle married Boob just to avoid moving to Ohio with the rest of her family. It's probably not true, but I think it could have been worded better.

I'm fairly certain that it was discussed by Michelle and JB on the show how they chose to get married when she was 17 and the family was moving because they didn't want to be separated.
