Schlafly writes about a case in which a man may or may not be guilty of raping his wife.

A good man's life has been sacrificed, and three children have been denied their father, by the malicious feminists who have lobbied for laws that punish spousal rape just like stranger rape and deny a man the right to cross-examine his accuser.

It is one thing to believe that an individual might have been wrongly accused; however, to believe that spousal rape isn't as bad as stranger rape is disgusting. What is wrong with Schlafly?

Any links to objective information on the case? Wikipedia entry basically quotes 2 unreliable sources.

I don't trust anything that Schlafly says. OTOH, wrongful convictions have been known to happen. Marital rape IS a crime - but if it's true that he didn't get a proper defense, then there could be some uncertainty as to whether he actually committed this crime.

Schlafly getsw the Michigan rape shield law wrong. The law doesn't prohibit all cross-examination of rape victims. Here's what is does say:

You can't cross-examine on sexual history if the only point is to claim that the victim is a slut. You CAN cross-examine on the details of the offense.

What's mind boggling is that it's really only very recently that spousal rape became illegal. It was legal until the early 70s to early 90s depending on area. And that's 1970s, not 1770s.
