In my home state, Gov Haslam is proposing two years of community college for graduates. i doubt the Bateses would take advantage of it. I agree with giving teachers and city workers raises, but I wish it could be done without cutting jobs.

I hope passes. Now if Alabama would only follow suit.

South Carolina has been providing tuition assistance to all SC resident who go to community colleges (Most here are technical colleges but, same difference) It doesn't pay all tuition but I'll tell you, it was a huge help in my getting my nursing degree. I would love to see tuition for free here in SC. Some people can't afford to go to college even with the lottery tuition.

I believe that Ohio has a similar situation, or it did when I graduated about 10 yrs ago- though it may have had a GPA requirement. Also, I know Oberlin College, for awhile at least, was offering free tuition for anyone who graduated from (and had attended all four years at) the local high school.
