Vision Forum Ministries: The Authority of Fathers

Deleted12

Recommended Posts

5. A husband and father is the head of his household, a family leader, provider, and protector, with the authority and mandate to direct his household in paths of obedience to God. (Gen. 18:19; Eph. 6:4)

6. A man’s authority in the home should be exercised with gentleness, grace, and love as a servant-leader, following the example of Jesus Christ. Leadership is a stewardship from God. (Ps. 103:13; Mal. 3:17; Matt. 11:29-30; Col. 3:21; 1 Pet. 3:7)

7. The authority of fathers is limited by the law of God and the lawful authority of church and state. Christian fathers cannot escape the jurisdiction of church and state and must be subject to both. (Rom. 13:1ff.; Eph. 5:21; 6:4; Heb. 13:17; 1 Pet. 2:13ff.)

Don't they also read about the working woman in the Book of Proverbs? and what would happen if the father abuses his power? they would blame the wife for it

I think there is a book called No will of my Own, How Patriarchy smothers Female Dignity and Personhood by John Zens, it mentions Vision Forum in there.

And they extensively revised them after I talked about the document at the SBC seminary in 2008. You should have seen the original document and the revisions. They addressed every screwball thing it used to say and softened it up to make it more mainstream Baptist friendly! http://vimeo.com/14809541

Hey, and I just learned that Voddie pitches a fit about the presentation in his book about courtship -- for two whole pages!

Ha, ha, ha.

This new version is the tame one. That old version from 2003 was utterly ridiculous. It said that it was a sin to send your kid to a Christian school or public school, to educate a grown woman outside the home, and it was a sin for a woman to work outside the home unless she was working with her husband and under his covering. It was ridiculous.

There's no cached version of the original document? :(

Also, how much stuff do you think VF sells to mainstream Christians?

Here is an earlier version of this document: http://web.archive.org/web/200706261349 ... archy.aspx

And this one:

http://web.archive.org/web/200210180609 ... ession.asp

I harshly criticized the church as a "family of families" concept within Baptist circles, and VF has extensively rewritten those sections to soften them.

Lots more to turn up, but it's not worth the effort.
