British Fundies (I Think?) Expecting Number 13

Delurking to comment. They are Catholic, and I think have fundie tendencies.

I read their book, and as well as the homeschooling/religion side of things they also spout the usual 'overpopulation is a myth' nonsense. They also mentioned chore packs amongst other things that made me think of other families we talk about here. I can do a more in depth review of the book if anyone wants?

They did seem like they would have a lot in common with the flashier fundie families we talk about. I wonder if maybe they don't go on about it too much because they know it wouldn't be as accepted in the UK as it is in the USA?

hmm Aren't chore packs a Maxwell invention?

My knowledge doesn't compare to some posters on here, but when I read 'chore packs' it screamed 'fundy!' at me!

She's had five c sections so far and presumably this'll be her sixth. I have seen TV clips of her stating vehemently that contraception is wrong, and basically shrugging off concerns viewed by health professionals about the high risk nature of her pregnancies. Personally I believe it's her choice but she was very dismissive of very real risks.

Theyre a bit fundie I think, probably the most fundie the UK is ever going to get, as most people dont care much for religion here.

Interesting that there are some decent size gaps among the older ones (with 5 years between the second and third), and then the differences in ages continually decreases. There's also only a 9 month difference between the youngest and the next older twins, which doesn't really seem right.

Late in life fundies, perhaps?

The elder two were from a previous relationship (of the mother's), and then she suffered a series if miscarriages. But yes, they also found religion later on and I think they didn't always use contraception. I may have done a bit too much research on this family!!

They have a website: largerfamilylife.com

LOL, you took more time to look into this, I couldn't find anything specific about them on their site, so I gave up.

I don't know why, I had a feeling the oldest were from another relationship. This isn't mentioned in the article - I'm assuming because it would mess of their "one BIG happy family" storyline.

They sound like a more mainstream Michelle and Jim Bob, perhaps blaming the miscarriages on some sin or another.

I'm still wondering about that 9 month age difference in the youngest. Very odd.

Why odd? I'm assuming she got pregnant right away, or have I missed something?

Interesting that she has a mix or genders, then a run of boys, then a run of girls in the Duggar style!

Unless the baby was a premie (and she doesn't look like it, but who knows), the mom would have gotten pregnant within days of giving birth to twins. That doesn't seem right to me. Even fundies have to recover.

It is interesting she has a similar pattern in genders to the Duggars. I wonder what the odds of that are.

She was on a TV show here called 15 Kids and Counting, which looked at various big British families. They're definitely *very* Catholic and spout some of the standard fundie beliefs. They use a Christian homeschooling curriculum, but their children at least somewhat socialise outside of the house at Scouts etc.

She even wrote a breakdown of what had been filmed vs what had been aired. largerfamilylife.com/2012/01/18/glad-thats-over-the-truth-about-15-kids-and-counting/

I quite enjoy watching them.

This lot! Very hard to figure out. I was looking on their website a few months back and saw that Chris Jeub had commented.

When I moved to England, I was super puzzled about this - I'd known that the UK wasn't particularly religious (at least not the majority of people I've met), yet the country is organized in a very religious (specifically Christian) way. Trying to schedule something work/school-related anywhere near the week before or after Easter was utterly impossible due the holidays and everyone says "Happy Christmas" instead of happy holidays or something more generic. By contrast, America (which tends to have way more openly (and vocally) religious people in it goes for the "Happy Holidays" and the Easter-isn't-a-holiday route. If anything, you'd think it would be the opposite.

Ok, I just checked out the article and my first thought was "who on earth puts photos of their kids' faces on dinner plates and sticks them on the wall?" Also, the person who was in charge of proofreading the article clearly took that day off. Then again, it's the Daily Fail we're talking about here.

I think it's just that it's the way it's always been. A lot of people are very anti-political correctness as well so in spite if their lack of religion would still protest at using a 'correct' phrase such as 'happy holidays'. We Brits are nothing if not contrary!

Isn't the Easter thing just because our schools are off then. Any time schools are closed there is a mass holiday booking from parents as they need to be home to watch kids. When any of my childless friends want time of work around school holidays are always denied as "they don't need to be off work at this time."

Good point re: Easter, also since there are two public holidays at that time everyone wants to make the most if the long weekend and book extra days off work!

We dont have seperation of church and state, and have an official religion-the Church of England, so some things are more religious than others-even the non Christian schools are Christian.

It doesnt seem right? Unless they're spouting off ridiculous submission crap, maybe she just wanted some of her husband after having two little people inside o make it way harder and more awkward than with one!

If they DO spout the submission crap, I hope it was just that she was up for it or mentioned not being sore or something and he said "Whoohoo, now is a good time, let's get nekkid!" Instead of some assholish drivel.

A young relative had classmates who were siblings all in the grade - a pair or twin and single, all the same age.,yep, the mom got pregnant two weeks after giving birth to the twins. Yuck and ouch! (And they were firmly un-fundy.)

Whilst I think her reasonings are ridiculous, I will say she puts Michelle Duggar to shame. When she was on TV they showed a typical day and she works her arse off. She doesn't rely on her older kids to raise the younger ones, there's no buddy system and she does all the housework herself. Her kids are allowed to have a life of their own, which is more than the Duggar girls will ever have.

I wanna know what's going on with that Indian family from the British documentary. They had 15 or so kids, the wife didn't want any more and kept saying so, but the husband kept saying proudly that it didn't matter because she couldn't resist him.
