Kelly 2 chicken breasts looking for intelligent folk *snort*

I think that it is safe to say that Kelly's kids would not even admitted into a good college, much less get a full ride scholarship. The kids that are getting tons of scholarships and (successfully) running a (thriving) business were actually educated by dedicated parents who drove acidemics... not fundie style.

Totally.

Hellooo Kelly, my MA is in a foreign language and most of my classes were taken in in it. My (hopeful) PhD will be on a subject which requires a knowledge of sociology and psychology as well as political science.

I'd love to see you teach your kids the above. And bear in mind I'm not a smart person. I'm the polar opposite of a genius but I still bet you couldn't teach me how to speak fluently in a foreign language, or how to debate politically. Amirite?

I've read a few biographies of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Actually, she and her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, were VERY anti-government assistance, to the point that during WW2 they used to ration cards. I don't remember, but I think they opposed the use of them by other people as well.

However, her family was known to take government assistance. It's not stated in the books, but actually, Mary's college tuition was paid for by the state of (South?) Dakota. Almanzo (LIW's husband) took out loans to pay for the farm equipment.

How hypocritical, yet typical (Oklahoma and Texas elected officials anyone?) of them.

I must have read a different Bible than Kelly,

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?"

"Yes, he does," he replied.

When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own sons or from others?"

"From others," Peter answered.

"Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him. "But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"

"Caesar's," they replied.

Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

Matthew 17 and 22

Taxation is theft, she claims? Not according to Jesus. Kelly :hand: You don't know jackshit.

And because Jesus is an afterthought to a number of Christians, I will quote their other savior, Paul:

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."

"Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."

Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

All from Romans 13

Epic Fail, Kelly.

I checked out the admission price for the local children's museum, just to see if Kelly was right about one (and only one) thing. Admission is free for the under one's, and $16 for children and adults. Discount rates available for groups of fifteen or more, which IIRC wouldn't apply to Kelly's family, and are $13 per person. Don't forget the $8 parking fee, and there you go, an inexpensive field trip to the museum.

Yeah, the Smithsonian is an inexpensive (free, and something I take for granted about living outside DC) museum field trip, but then again it's tainted with socialism like everything else about the Nation's Capital ;).

Gotta love Marie's comment about taxation in the Bible.

This was an interesting turn:

You are right–I stand corrected. Government does need certain forms of taxes to carry out their duty, protecting citizens, punishing evil, and promoting good. The problem is who gets to define what those things are. We are commanded to pay taxes, which is why I do, even though I disagree with the gross misuse of our tax money. That’s why I think we should obey by paying, all the while appealing to what we believe are unfair taxation practices.

Because Jesus said, "Give into Caesar what is Caesar's unnless that Caesar is doing things like building up an army to control countries like this one, build amphitheatres for bloodsport or build temples for God's you don't believe in." Well, actually he didn't. He said, "Pay your taxes you greedy buggers".

I'm curious what kind of scientific databases Kelly uses to find all those "well-documented studies".

Kelly doesn't need an stinkin' scientific databases; she's got the Bible!

I live outside of NYC. Just to get to the museums costs a ton of money. Metro cards aren't cheap, and neither is gas. It's criminal what we're charged to use the LIRR and then we need to get Metro cards for NYC. It's almost $35 for an adult to go to the Bronx Zoo. It's $19 for an adult to go to the Museum of Natural History. It's $25 for an adult to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Now, I'm sure Kelly would never take her children to NYC or to our museums because ZOMG defrauding art/animals/science.

:naughty:

I live in Central Jersey, midway between NYC and Philly. To take the family to the Museum of Natural History (I used to take my son back when it was donation only),it's $26 per person, half for kids, for the train, plus $16-$20 to park near the train. Subway is now $2.75 plus Metro cards cost $1. Then there's not just the general museum admission fee but anything remotely new or interesting is now a special exhibit that you have to pay extra for. So it's close to $200 for us and that's not counting lunch and souvenirs.

If it wasn't for Groupons, we wouldn't go anywhere.

I am sooo happy that Kelly hasn't had to spend more than a couple of hundred dollars for health care the past couple of years. Shite happens. Even when you eat a healthy diet, you can have a heart go bad and require meds that cost a couple of hundred a month. :angry-banghead: (Okay, so I am feeling very stabby this am. I shouldn't have read this thread)

And guess what, Kelly two breast, my son is on medicaid, and I am proud to admit it. Because it means that I can get him therapies that he needs as an autistic child that I can't afford. Government assistance can be a good thing!

Feed your kids, ya fool!

Yes, I am stabby this am!

Celtic Goddess, you sound like a great mum. Kelly needs to swallow her pride - she's so full of it. She lets her pride come before the needs of her children. Just like my biological dad.

If Kelly is only spending a few hundred every few years, that is medical neglect! We spend about 2k , after insurance, a year! This includes well visits, meds, vision and dental for just three!

Seriously, we all have eye visits today that will be at least $250 before new glasses.

Here's a little exercise.

List the following priorities in order, from most to least important:

- feeding your children enough to meet their nutritional needs, even if they are rapidly growing teen boys, and avoid hunger

- providing proper medical and dental care, including any needed medications, vision care or therapies

- not ever relying on the government for anything

- never using birth control and leaving it all up to God

None of those should be a rule. They are a choice. A stupid one. OH wait. I'm being totally silly again :( Sorry.

If you really hate the idea of anyone having government assistance, move to your ideal state. Somalia.

(You'll find you don't get a pension there either. Or working roads. Or healthcare. Or, well, anything. But the Bible says God will provide, right?)

Indeed - but the government will plunder its citizens anyway. Unlike the "plunder" of taxation, however, citizens in failed states are plundered directly, face-to-face, by agents of the state, none of whom will return anything to make up for the loss. No healthcare, no regulations, no policing, no clean water, no safe roads...and everyone who can be armed will be armed.

That's the kind of world Kelly wants for her kids - because she thinks God will protect her and hers?

No. No one will protect her.
