Catholic parish supports Portland pride parade.

parishioners from st. andrew catholic church, which has a longstanding commitment to social justice issues, will march in sunday's portland pride parade with a banner proclaiming their parish identity, despite the wishes of archbishop alexander k. sample.

St. Joan of Arc parish in Minneapolis also has long supported the gay pride parade there. The parish is made up of many GLBT families. The archbishop is always fuming at them over something.

This makes me very happy. Some friends of mine were to be married on Sunday in Portland, but unfortunately one of the partners died of flu complications earlier this year. I hope that this will ease his husband's pain a bit. He's not Catholic (does have Catholic roots though), but he is a devout Christian.
