Ding Dong, VF is Dead! And Doug Phillips is a Tool - Part 3

I understand what you're saying, the socialist part of me (ie: every cell in my body) agrees. But you have to remember that it is not us who differenciate here. It is VFers. VF and Doug have carefully crafted a mini society where he and his ilk are the aristocracy who dole out favours to the 'lower' classes. If it was the nanny and if she is the janitors daughter, then in Doug's mini society she was at a disadvantage compared to the Phillips children. In Doug's world hewas the oone with all the power. It's not us, it is Doug. And its another example of what is wrong withthis cult. A girl such of this was in no position to have said no, and add in teen hormones, crushes and cult of personality around Doug, what you end up with is this scandal.

Not to mention that within his society there may have been additional pressures. If she said no, drew back, or even told someone she may have been fearful of losing her entire family's income. Couple that with a typical dream of becoming a princess and you have a true power issue. Did she dream of him leaving Beall to take her as his wife? I doubt that considering his preachings so I'm wondering if he promised one of his sons?

The whole thing is really nauseating.

Reminds me of someone I know who has the nickname "T.W.", after the Winnie-the-Pooh book where Piglet says his grandfather's name is "Trespassers Will" or T.W. for short.

Jasmine has an article in which she mentions Winnie the Pooh. She is intelligent, well read and an insider. She could be TW Eston

 This board has already labeled him with great gusto as a sexually abusive Svengali and horrible embezzler. The caution horse done left the barn a long time ago.

Except Doug Phillips is (a tool and) the self-admitted perpetrator of various sins and infidelities. He made his bed and should lie in it. I prefer to err on the side of caution and compassion when it comes to identifying and describing his possible victims.

Given how well she's been able to integrate into a number of online communities by being able to to "talk the talk" and thereby convince others she's "real" enough within same community, I would say that it's possible. Not to say that this VF insider person is Ruth, but I wouldn't be surprised if she attempted to come back as another fundie insider of some sort.

To the bolded, neither would I. She wouldn't want to waste all that research! I don't think Eston is Ruth, however. Ruth, at least in all the incarnations TAR seems to have uncovered to date, is a more careless writer and makes the same spelling mistakes even when she is writing in different "voices." She is also consistently more circular than linear in organizing her writing too, if that makes sense. Eston is very linear.

I wish we knew who Eston is. I'm not taking anything s/he says as Gospel until I do know who it is. S/he is coming over to me as male, pissed off with Doug, possibly a business person Doug swindled, and someone, not necessarily in the inner circle, but perhaps close enough to know some of the dirt. Definitely someone who has a major grudge against VF and not someone whose word should be accepted immediately.

Eston, who appeared out of nowhere to post on several different blogs once the scandal broke, could be rumor-mongering wildly, telling us what we want to hear by "confirming" speculation, and definitely be as fake and full of BS as Ruth.

Interesting point but would Jasmine or a similarly placed insider also dump on Kevin Swanson, R.C. Sproul et al.? Voddie has been less visible of late (at least outside his circles) so it's hard to tell if the separation between him & VF extends to VF's (former) cohorts. Eston writes as if s/he is on the outs with all of them.

How about just giving The Lady In Question a pseudonym? How about Ophelia, the obedient daughter from Much Ado About Nothing, whose suitor was a tool and treated her so abominably she went mad and drowned herself? Or Bianca, the SAHD from Taming of the Shrew? Lavinia, who was mutilated by men and told her father who they were? Cordelia, who spoke the truth and was rejected by her father?

I think Lavinia fits pretty well.

I actually do not want to know any victim(s) identities and hope for their sake they are not identified in any way unless they wish to make themselves known. For me, it's enough to to see Dougie fall on an increasing number of swords which looks to be happening here.

Agreed. Just to be clear, my post above was meant to convey that I do not wish for his victims to be publicly identified against their will either, out of compassion for them and their families.

Whoever she is, she's probably going through a lot of emotional pain. Or maybe she's recovered by now (who knows how long ago it was that they stopped seeing one another?), but the fact that it's now all becoming very public will throw her through another whole phase of pain and recovery. I don't care who she is. I just hope she can weather this.

Quibble: Ophelia was in Hamlet. Hero, a character in Much Ado About Nothing, was a SAHD whose suitor was all too quick to believe a lie condemning her virtue, and who was thrown under the bus by both said suitor and her father.

I think Hero would be a great pseudonym for the young woman in question.

@SS, no worries, that is exactly how I understood it and totally agree.

*headdesk* I originally wrote Hero, then changed it to Ophelia but forgot to change the name of the play. And I agree, Hero does fit better. So. Hero is a hero and Doug Phillips is, as always, a tool.

With all that's been coming out in the weeks since Dougie's first letter, I am becoming more convinced that the "affair" that Dougie is referring to may have been over for some time and hopefully the other person has moved on. Still this going public is bound to bring up any pain all over again.

If this person is no longer with VF, or perhaps never was (not likely but who knows) that in itself hopefully will make it easier as that person can seek support and find more compassion on the outside. Certainly not within.

If Dougie had been found out earlier and the public confession had been delayed for 8 or 9 months already, why wouldn't they have delayed the public confession for another 2 months or so, to take advantage of another Christmas selling season? The timing of things seems odd. The 8 or 9 month timeline seems odd too, seeing as that's the length of a pregnancy... hmmm...

New post from Doug Wilson:

"Now what was the sin of Sapphira here? Why did she lose her life? The sin she committed here, in Peter's words, was the sin of agreeing with her husband. And when she came in to speak with Peter, not knowing her husband was dead, her moral duty at that point was to expose her husband by confessing the sin."

Indeed odd and a good point about closing shop before the Christmas selling season. If this was all found out earlier and delayed this long, then why now unless something developed that is forcing Dougie's or the board's hand. Maybe not pregnancy, though interesting timing, but also could be some financial or legal s**t is hitting the fan like an IRS audit or something.

Doug made Tim Bayly feel icky, BUT…

"I've always felt a bit of an ick-factor over the cloying graphics of Vision Forum… But note these are not the things Doug Phillips has been attacked for over the years. Overwhelmingly, what he and RCJR and Doug Wilson are attacked for is their straightforward and unapologetic commitment to 2,000 years of Biblical faithfulness in giving our sexuality to God as our confession of true Christian faith."

OT but I think of that almost every time I see your name. My dad used to record XF on Friday nights and send me the VHS tapes to watch because we weren't allowed TV in our dorms. :) I still have them up in my attic!

So where does Tim Bayly stand....I thought he was cut from the same cloth as the Vision Forum/ Christian Dominionist types.

Well, there are differences, even though Bayly has a quiverfull mindset. Bayly believes that homeschooling is wrong because it gives women authority over men (their sons!), so he sends his kids to public schools. Women in his church dress in pants, modest shorts, whatever. He celebrates Christmas. He listens to rock music. His church has a "praise band."

So on the outside, Bayly and his followers look much more "normal" than Phillips and his followers, but make no mistake: Tim is just as much of a misogynist and a homophobe as Doug is.

Was this in academy? In college (still SDA) we were allowed TVs; I didn't get one till junior year, though.

Can someone please explain to me how the bolded makes any sense at all? Does Bayly really think his sons will never have women teachers if they go to public schools? There are a lot of women who teach, especially in the younger grades.

(Hi, I'm new. I've been lurking, but not since Yuku, and I'm still trying to figure out things like fundie logic and who believes/practices what.)

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

      Giraffe

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
