The cynic in me thinks that Kate and her illness is used as a distraction from Charles. For weeks the public was distracted with the question about her disappearnce from public. And now the attention lays even more on her and her journey. Charles and his health just became a side note. Maybe it isn't fully intentional and the PR just use the higher interest in her and are happy that not much questions are asked about the king. But it isn't fair and they should do something against that.

I think it has been handled badly, but I also would suspect that KP is reeling as well from the recent events, and is having a hard time keeping up. Elizabeth II did her best to project a reassuring image of tradition, stability and invulnerability from the time she inherited not long after WWII ended to the day she died. Great Britain was in bad shape at economically at the end of the war, and lost a lot of prestige as the former British Empire broke up. Elizabeth II provided continuity to the halcyon days of "the sun never sets on the British empire." (Halcyon to the aristocracy and upper middle class, anyway.)

After she died, she was succeeded by a King who lacked her charisma. And now he is ill and so is the Princess of Wales. The facade of invulnerability is breaking down, and KP is having a hard time coping. The old approach of "stay calm, and carry on" doesn't seem to be working well.

I am not sure if Kate felt pressured to reveal her condition due to the problems around her medical file. It’s still unclear if it was compromised or if there were only attempts. Her doing chemo will certain mean less/no outings. Like Charles they will not put her together with lots of people. Especially strangers. I don’t know if there is chemo that will not affect your hair nowadays, but Kate‘s hair is basically one of her biggest visual focal points. If she shows up with a pixie or short bob or even very thin hair, everyone will notice.

let’s just hope we don’t get to see any Paddington, HMTQ + PP, or Saint Diana drawing. This type of „art“ is so overdone it’s just tack at this point.

It‘s nice to see that some people can realise their „jokes“ were actually pretty cruel, own it and apologise (looking at you Blake Lively). I just wish more people had the backbone instead of still going or acting as if they never did anything malicious and put their own behaviour on the KP/the BRF because they „made them do it“ with their bad PP strategy and what not.

What does “KP” stand for?

If I was a cancer patient in the UK I would probably be really angry. The NHS is in horrible shape, ordinary cancer patients have to wait months to start treatment. https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2024/03/14/cancer-waiting-times-latest-updates-and-analysis/

I’m pretty sure Kate did not have to wait a single day to see any specialist and start treatment (other than any waiting time that is medically advised, eg healing after surgery before starting chemo).

There is. It depends on type of cancer she has and what chemotherapy they are using, but it is possible to not lose your hair. For example, vincristine and vinblastine are used for leukemia and lymphoma. 5-fluorouracil is used for skin cancer and sometimes colon cancer. They’re all much less likely to result in hair loss, although they are sometimes used in combination with other drugs

No but her being treated right away doesn‘t increase anyone‘s waiting time as her medical team is not using NHS resources for all we know. Being angry about an underfunded NHS was just as justified before her diagnosis as it is now.

I had chemo for colon cancer several years ago and kept my hair.  It might have thinned out a little bit, but it still looked normal.

I am not sure the NHS data is that different from sectors in the US. See here: https://kffhealthnews.org/news/article/cancer-patients-prior-authorization-treatment-delays/

I agree it changes nothing except it does make the disparities more obvious.

I'm certain that if Kate is to undergo chemo that will take her hair, someone is making her a wig right this minute.

I''m just sorry she has to endure all of this in the public eye.

And we are back to "Kate is dead" on Twitter. Mostly from the Meghan fanatics. This week's proof:

William and Catherine's anniversary IG post yesterday  is a thirteen year old photo. Thirteen is unlucky, so they are actually telling us she is dead without telling us.

They posted a wedding photo.

Yesterday was their 13th wedding anniversary.

And there, if we didn't already know, is proof the Meghan fanatics have zero sense.

My only thought when I saw the photo was that Kate probably doesn't feel up to a current photo. But to go to she's dead? Yeah, sure Jan.

On Instagram people posted they thought she was dead because they chose to publish a black-and-white photo.

My thought was ... it's their wedding anniversary. People typically post throwback photos to their wedding day to celebrate their wedding anniversaries. None of this seems weird.

Actually, my real thought was laughing at how William chose to change his uniform and get formal pictures done in the uniform he actually wanted to wear, rather than the uniform his grandma made him wear. Good on you, Will!

If black and white photos indicate death, then M & H and their children are long dead.

The photo I saw was color, but I can't say for certain who released it.

The one KP posted is one of only two (?) wedding photos ever seen with William in his uniform of choice (which is a black one, while he got married in a red one) and they have never been released in color, I believe. I assume they are black and white to not draw attention to the change in uniform.

I’m glad he changed and got photos in the uniform he wanted to wear, but the red with the blue sash for the ceremony was a much more epic, fairytale prince look that look timeless.

So best of both worlds, I guess.

This honestly reminds me of the behaviour around the Twilight series books and especially movies. People were so passionately pro or anti that there was no actual discussion to be had.

There are some very big problems with the BRF including racism, classism and sexism that should be closely looked at and not hand-waved away with “tradition” or “toughen up”. But I don’t think every member gets up each morning twirling their moustaches and cackling evilly.

Will and Catherine and Harry and Meghan have all been attached to some great things and some stupid stuff. Sometimes they have done things in a smart/dignified manner and sometimes it is super cringe. Being perceived as work shy or being perceived as flighty with no follow through surrounded by failed projects both sucks.

All of them are out of touch with the reality of most of the rest of the world.
Their PR teams both make some very questionable decisions.
The rabid fans of either family are nuts!

Reminds me of the Paul is dead conspiracy theory of my youth.

The evidence was more creative and in keeping with the conspiracy angle. Abbey Road album cover, for example.

Well, there was a lot more hard work - playing records backwards a million times, dissecting album covers, analyzing lots of data.

And all this was done without the internet, let alone social media.

So true!

Our electronics back then were 3 tv stations (4 if you counted PBS, but I don’t remember if it was called PBS at the time), and radio. And that was it.
And yet we all heard the Paul is dead theories.

I was in 7th or 8th grade, but we all heard it.
Internet?  We don’t need no stinkin’ internet!
