Fun fact: James is the last younger brother to be ahead of an older sister in the line of succession. Lucas Tindall is not ahead of his sisters, though they’re all at the end of the line instead of between Charles and Andrew’s families. (The change took place while Kate was pregnant with George.)

It's all academic anyway, unless something truly awful happens (regardless of your opinions of the Royal family, the sort of mass death event occurring which would lead to King Lucas would be a tragedy for the family).

I'm reminded of just before the Coronation when parts of Catholic Twitter were heaping praise on Princess Alexandra of Hanover because she converted to Catholicism a few years ago and so "gave up" her right to the British throne.

  1. She didn't "give up" anything, her place in the Line of Succession was taken from her automatically
  2. I'm sure losing place 500+ in a theoretical list affected her not one jot
  3. If she was in a position where she had a realistic claim to the British throne, she would also be Queen of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark as well as Pretender to the thrones of Romania, Yugoslavia, Russia, Prussia, and Greece.

I found a website earlier that listed the LoS as of January 2011 down to place 5,753. I was slightly afraid to look at it in case I found I was somewhere on the list 😉

I did find a friend of mine somewhere in the 2,000s.

I have another fun fact. Because the Act of Succession says that only the descendants of Empress Sophia of Hanover can inherit the British throne, the end of the line is not lost in the mists of time. It’s a German therapist named Karin Vogel.

I found it interesting that the US sometimes uses the Royal Family as a convenient measuring tool because they're well known and easily tracked. One of the things the board of Disney did was put binding limits on what the new board could do, and those limits are to last for “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England living as of the date of this declaration.”

I had to read up on Karin Vogel, couldn't resist. Her 8th great grandmother was the Empress Sophia, who herself was the great-granddaughter of Mary Stuart, otherwise known as Mary Queen of Scots, and the granddaughter of James I. Sophia's son was King George I, who took over the throne when Queen Anne died. According to the family tree from Karin up to Sophia, the most recent titled person in her line was Duke Ernst of Wurttemberg (1807-1868), her great-great grandfather. From there the line devolved into somewhat more ordinary, everyday people, as most of those lines usually end up doing. Karin herself is a therapist who specializes in counseling older people with pain issues.

Found all this fun stuff here:

She looks friendly and approachable. She helps elderly people who have chronic pain. She's doing some good in the world.

I think she'd make a better, more worthy, more accessible Queen than Camilla. Maybe they should be made to swap places. I'd cheer for her on the balcony!

Though Ms. Vogel says she doesn't want to be queen. So she's also wise.

I can't find a recent count. She got a lot of press in 2011, when she was just under 5000. Presumably the babies born since then have put her somewhere over 5000.

Thanks. I imagine that people dying moved her up the list at the same time.

Normally I'm not interested in that sort of thing. but it's oddly fascinating that this list exists at all. People are so weird and wonderful and awful mixed together.

It’s funny that the current list is both exactly 100 people and also includes everyone descended from Edward VII (assuming it doesn’t cut off a few of the Norwegians). Queen Victoria’s descendants are as the stars in the sky, so there’s no need to get into that.

Another quirk of the gender preference laws is that in the extremely unlikely event that #90 on the list inherits, Prince Sverre Magnus is ahead of his older sister in the British succession, which would work out nicely, since she will be queen of Norway. (She also has an older stepbrother, so she has a unique family dynamic as a future female monarch.)

I think it is rare to find anyone who hasn't been affected by cancer one way or another.  Cancer sucks and hope that Fergie heals quickly from the surgery and that they cancer was removed and that it did not spread.

Yes, seems like they caught it with early detection, which hopefully means it hasn't spread anywhere else. Wishing her and her family well, cancer is a cruel, cruel mistress.

Bitch, we have been fucking over this. There is currently nothing to say about Andrew that hasn’t already been said. He is a piece of shit. We all know it. However, until there are new articles about him, useless spamming of the thread will only result in warnings. It’s not a hard concept.

I do find it interesting that it’s been eight days and you haven’t commented, either.

If there was ever actually any truth to stories Andrew was being Kicked out of White Lodge  he is hardly going to be anytime in the near future now with Sarah recovering there.

I don't agree with Catholic Twitter on most things. Most of Catholic Twitters tend to be fundamentalist, etc.

Why can't she recover in another luxury home? I know women who've gone back to work while getting breast cancer treatment, and she can't recover in another luxury home?

It does sound like they support the sex pest and his wife, though.

Well if the world ever gets to a place in which somebody who used to be number 500 on the succession list becomes the monarch, due to an excessive death toll, I reckon there's a very good chance that you would not want to be one. It could very easily be the coronation for number 501 next week.
