The man who played a good sized part in the taking down of the Iron Curtain has died

Mikhail Gorbachev -- the last leader of the former Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991 -- has died at the age of 91.

Gorbachev died after a long illness, Russian state news agencies reported.

"Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev died this evening after a severe and prolonged illness," the Central Clinical Hospital said, according to RIA Novosti Tuesday.

The man credited with introducing key political and economic reforms to the USSR and helping to end the Cold War had been in failing health for some time.

I do wonder if was relieved to finally join Maggie, Poppy Bush, and Raygun in the hereafter considering how much Vlad the Invader has turned Russia into a hate sink.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the funeral of Mikhail Gorbachev on Saturday due to his work schedule, according to the Kremlin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said during a call with reporters on Thursday that Putin had paid his respects to Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, earlier that morning.

Peskov indicated that Gorbachev will not receive an official state funeral.

The Kremlin spokesman said Gorbachev's funeral would have "elements" of a state funeral, including a guard of honor. He said the state was assisting with organizing his funeral.

These two hated each other. Gorbatchev dismantled everything Putin was working for in the KGB. And since attaining power, Putin has worked diligently to dismantle everything Gorbatchev achieved. They are literally each other's antitheses.
