What book did she read that inspired the yearly picnic? That is a detail most would include.

I noticed they got a comment asking about Anna homeschooling and another on how to make yogurt. They have already blogged how to make yogurt. Sarah should have included a link to that in the caption. And I will be surpirsed if they start letting Anna blog about homeschooling.

I thought she said in a comment that it is the "Twin's Picnic."

They did do a post about this picnic a couple of years back, but CBA to find it. I think it consisted of them eating peanut butter sandwiches and apples on their back porch, or something equally thrilling. Teri reads the books and they eat the same picnic as occurs in the book.

In the extremely irreverent words of Willam Belli: "I've seen more upbeat abortions."

Here's the original post from last year (google site search of their blog is much easier for anyone who ever is looking to find something on it - their site search is crappy as heck as we all know!)

I know kid's books don't have to be complicated to be good; to be a favorite. But when I tried to find a summary of the plot of The Twins' Picnic, I found the same one sentence summary on two websites.

Quote

Stanley and Susie have their very own picnic.

So, I looked until I found pictures of a few of the pages.

Spoiler

Judging by their mother's clothes, I guess Stanley and Susie might be Amish or Mennonite?

Rod and Staff is a Mennonite company so that makes sense.

I can't quite understand why anyone older than Andrew would be interested in that book though.

So I think this is supposed to say "love never fails," but I read it as "love never faps." Which, I suppose is also accurate in the Maxwell world. I'll see myself to the prayer closet.

I read, Love Never Fars.

Also, she wrote "I haven’t set out to be a pro because that’s not the direction I’m going, but I desire to keep improving as I learn and do the best I can do."  What exactly is the direction she's going in?  Poor girl was made to stop graphic design, lettering is only allowed to be a hobby, so what is her direction?  Inquiring minds want to know.

To be a wife and mother which will never happen.  Notice she started this letter copying crap right after she graduated from SOTDRT.

Ooh! I thought it read "Love never FARTS" but now I see I was wrong. Do I need to bring any refreshments to the prayer closet?

I had a Maxwell moment today while doing some chores but not wearing a chore pouch. The house needed a good vacuuming and it was somehow put in my heart to start at the bathroom end of the hallway and work my way to the entryway, kitchen and family room. I realized it didnt matter if I didnt start at the entryway as I usually do, every floor got clean.

I'm guessing Mary's first lettering project was for someone else's engagement, but there's something rather cruel about that card, knowing that she is expressly forbidden to fall in love or date.

Quote

Love you always

You + Me = Love

Loves begins in a moment, grows over time and lasts an eternity

You will forever be my always

Every love story is beautiful but ours is my favorite

The phrases she chose make me believe she has a romantic streak and I truly wish she will get to experience the highs of falling in love (and making love) at some point in her life.

I thought that was one that she copied off the internet. I dont think she came up with any bit of that herself.

I think Mary is the creepiest of the Maxwell's, but she really has come a long way in her lettering.

I almost had a Teri moment yesterday when I was making some grilled cheese sandwiches.  I had one about ready to go on the griddle when I noticed the cheese paper stuck between two slices of cheese.  I took the paper out and threw that away.

Can someone translate this for me?

I (Mary) can remember in May of 2015 saying I really wanted to learn to better letter when I tried to write something beautiful, much to no avail.

Much to no avail?

What?

This once happened to a friend at our cookout. He was the one who left the cheese paper on since my husband just set the cheese out and let everyone pick their own. He didn’t notice until he bit into his hamburger. He was like, “why is my cheese so chewy?” We made fun of him mercilessly. But we didn’t take a picture and post it on a blog. I kind of wish we had.

I think that back in 2015 Mary wanted to learn how to letter better so she could write something beautiful but nothing happened/it was useless.

It's a pity that Sarah didn't want to learn how to write better so that she could write something beautiful too!

Dayum, I’ve been pretty charitable about Mary’s efforts of late but I gotta say it. For someone who seems to have nothing but time on her hands—at least after she’s finished looking after other people’s children—and says she’s been hard at work practicing lettering, IT SUCKS! I follow a lot of lettering artists and calligraphers on Instagram and Mary just doesn’t get it. She doesn’t seem to have a grasp on layout and design all. I see mentioned watching a few Skillshare videos, which is good, but then says she’d rather copy others. Yes, there’s a benefit to copying, that’s what apprentices to the masters did all the time, but you can’t learn fundamentals of design and technique by just copying, that’s what you get from instruction. I took calligraphy classses for years (haven’t done it since the 80s) and the little things an instructor can teach you make a huge difference. Pay attention to those classes, Mary! And check out Instagram. There are a ton of artists who offer online classes and many of them are big time Christians.

And yeah, I also read that sign as “Love never Faps.” Is there room for me in the prayer closet?

That's why I call her Scary Mary.  Her lettering still sucks though.

I'll whip some up--oatmeal, sugar and chocolate chippers coming up---

Still waiting for a recommendation on a sweet Prosecco.

It looks to me like Love Never Frequently Asks Questions.  Which is true.  If you love someone, you should not pepper them with inquiries.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.

It’s not supposed to be mosquito season right now but I still appear to have been bitten twice on the side of my foot. Bastards. I know I shouldn’t scratch but it’s so tempting… 😑
