Porn Again Christians

I found an online book by Mark Driscoll. I am not certain if I should put this post under the thread about Driscol or if this should be a seperate subject.

For those who want to read and discuss the booklet, you can find the link above.

He starts by telling women that the book is not for them but that their husbands can discuss it with them.

If someone mentions religion or the Bible while lovemaking, that would completely turn me off.

don't worry, it's actually about how Porn & Masturbation will turn you into Ted Bundy. (exaggeration, but just barely, the book ends with an interview with Bundy in which he blames pornography for fueling his transformation into a murderer)

Sorry but I HATE this shit.

The worst thing evah? Secular counselors. Specific Christian ones (no qualifications required) ONLY!

The problem with pastors? Either they're too effeminate or they're stuck with "unfulfilling and infrequent sex with their wives".

Masturbation? Porn? Totally forbidden. Why? Because LUST is a sin. If you feel an emotion of attraction ever to anyone you are not currently married to it is a SIN and you are a NO GOOD DIRTY SINNER WHO CANNOT CONTROL HIS THOUGHTS.

This shit is just as bad as that "pray away the gay" crap. It's all peddling the same idea that with prayer you can control the emotions and thoughts that spring unbidden into your mind. I pity the poor men caught up in this nonsense.

Oh my god.

"...masturbation can be a form of homosexuality because it is a sexual act

that does not involve a woman."

Question: if a husband isn't allowed to masturbate does that mean his wife can't either? Sucks to be her....

Masturbation also "causes greater and more frequent biological urges for additional ejaculations."

So once you orgasm once you have to do it constantly with no breaks for eating or sleeping till you die. How do all those masturbation deaths get swept under the rug?

His advice to a man who says he only watches porn and masturbates when his wife isn't in the mood, and she encourages this practice:

your wife is depriving you, which is a sin

If you enjoy watching porn WITH your spouse? Stop that, sinning Sinnerface!

Are wet dreams sins? Answer: maybe.

No, a woman can masturbate because it's a sex act involving a woman, so it's not gay at all.

"...ludicrous as arguing for masturbation like one young guy did with me by quoting Ecclesiastes 9:10, which says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.â€"

OMG, I should thank this asshole for find a me a pro-masturbation bible verse.

Ann Rule, who knew Ted Bundy for years, addresses the Ted Bundy Porn Made Me Do It interview in The Stranger Beside Me. Long story short: Bundy said whatever would get him what he wanted, which in that case was relief from the boredom of prison by doing an interview, a chance to be a little bit famous, and probably knowing something somebody else didn't, which was always one of his pleasures.

Didn't he give that interview to Jerry Falwell? Don't all good sociopaths always tell their audience exactly what they want to hear? In this case, the audience wanted to hear that porn makes you a serial killer. It was also a few days before his execution, as well. He was at the point of wanting to confess more because it would've kept him alive a bit longer while it was studied and investigated.

But, my husband only reads books about hockey. I am not joking,in the 22 years I have known him, he has read The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and only hockey books. So, what of he demanded I read it and fill him in on the good parts? (like this scenerio would actually happen) Am I not supposed to submit?

No, he gave to the interview to James Dobson, and Bundy played Dobson like a fiddle. Bundy didn't give a crap about so-called porn addiction. He was just trying to save his bacon for a little while longer.

So, on one hand he tries to sound all scholarly with his words, and on the other he's trying to talk to the reader in what he thinks is the reader's vernacular? Jive turkey! Pick a voice and stick with it! And, I'm insulted by your word choice, but then I remember it's geared toward fundie/not well educated men, and I'm still insulted on their behalf.

I scanned his anti-porn (but borderline pornish) document and found this little supposed statistic:

Single men who admit to masturbating once a week or more – 48%

Married men who admit to masturbating once a week or more – 44%

Divorced men who admit to masturbating once a week or more – 68%

Note his repeated use of the phrase "men to admit to masturbating" - because I think there is a much more reliable stat he could have used:

Men who masturbate - 100%

Thanks. I mixed up my right-wing asshole preachers. Poor Dobson - a 'psychologist' for got played by someone he was trying to 'help'. Shame

As a man I can confirm this is definitely true. It's like alcoholics admitting how much they drink. Multiply by 2 or 3 and you'll get the actual amount.

On page 5, he complains about sexuality being taken out of "the hands of theologians"(that sounds dirty) and placed in the hands of secular counselors, whose philosophy is dominated by "unbiblical evolutionary concepts of humanity and gender"

Pastors do have a unique relationships with members of their congregation but their expertise is in theology not psychology. Some pastors do have training in counseling but that can only take a couple so far. Couples might not feel comfortable talking about their sexual problems with a pastor who might also be a family friend.

I do wonder what he means by unbiblical concepts of humanity and gender. Does he mean that the ungodly psychologist might convince the woman that she deserves respect and kindness from her husband?

The use of the word, dude, is so obviously an attempt to be cool and hip that it is funny.

By the way, sometimes god "whacks" you with an STD. Damn god for not wearing a condom.(pg 8) Or like his buddy who gave his wife herpes or '"dudes' who give their wives death through AIDs. Um....god sounds swell. What sin did these women commit that they were whacked?

On the bottom of pg 16 and top of 17, he tells fathers that next time that they look at porn to remember that the sins of the father are often visited upon the child.

Isn't that contrary to scripture?

I think that some of his stories are just made up BS.

He says that there is no culture in which women masturbate more than men. He gives no references for this conclusion. It might be true or it might not, but I would like to know where he got his facts.

He says because masturbation is usually done in haste(again, how does he know) it encourages men to be minute men. Not everyone feels shame about masturbation. Being embarrassed about giving yourself pleasure has to be taught.

If a single man wants to have an orgasim(according to Mark) he needs to become a man and find a wife. I just read a part of the paper where he says that pornography is demeaning to women but he is encouraging men to marry for a sexual release. How does he not view that as dehumanizing to the woman?
