A musical based on the family featured in the "Duck Dynasty" reality TV series is closing in Las Vegas, a little more than a month after it opened.

"The Duck Commander Musical," based on the book “Duck Commander Family†by Willie and Korie Robertson, will shut down on May 17 after typically selling less than 100 tickets per performance despite heavy discounting, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

The show had opened April 15 at the 680-seat Crown Theater at the Rio hotel and casino. The Rio is also home to the Penn & Teller magic show and a Chippendales male revue.

The musical, which was produced by the team behind Broadway hits such as "Jersey Boys" and "Matilda," told the story of the Robertson family's rise, first with the success of the "Duck Commander" line of products and then with the reality TV show.

Some of those 100 tickets each night were probably comped, too. Why anyone would think that people who enjoy these asshats are the type of people who would vacation in Vegas is beyond me. Count me as one who is supremely happy that the show bombed (although I do feel bad for the producers, cast and crew). The Robertsons are vile.

Especially the father. That one is a complete asshat. Who in their right mind would actually take morality advice from some idiot who cheated on his wife and beat people up without showing remorse?

The article is a fun read just for the comments alone. People have lots of creative ideas for places the show could go next since the producers are open to taking the show on the road. I just love the comment, "So, no one in the entire production/financing team stopped to think that the viewing audience for Duck Dynasty and musicals might be mutually exclusive? Do I need to draw a Venn diagram for you guys?"

My husband and I were in Vegas a few months ago, and we went to the Rio to see Penn and Teller. The Rio is pretty far off the strip. It was worth the cost of the cab ride to see Penn and Teller, but there's no way I'd pay to see Duck Dynasty even if the tickets were free.

I don't understand why some people think Phil Robertson is important. He sometimes pops up at Republican events, and for a while he was on the National Organization for Marriage's slideshow at the top of their home page. Why? I think he would drive support away. It's just so odd.

Phil Robertson is important because he played football with Terry Bradshaw in college. Duh.

Why was this show in Vegas instead of Branson? I would think it would do very well there.

BTW, the Robertsons are from the swamps of Louisiana, not Texas. I do see their merchandise in Walmart and local grocery stores here in TX.

I was in Vegas in April and was offered free tickets to see it. We had reservations at Lotus of Siam (which are really hard to get). Sorry, I'll take Thai food over that BS any day!

Not surprised it was closing. We joked that generally, the only "free" things offered to people walking the strip is entry to peep shows. If they were that desperate...

Perhaps this show would have been more successful if the producers gave it the "Daily Show" or "Portlandia" treatment. If any TV show deserves to be satirized it's "Duck Dynasty."

The whole Robertson clan is a joke. Of COURSE it wouldn't do well. Who the fuck wants to see these people except their dumb ass fans who will defend them for anything. It was just another money move. Like everything else they do. Why are the Kardashians always attacked for selling stuff and being a brand and people like the Duggars and Robertsons arent? . These people are selfish and greedy. They all just need to go away!.

I don't think the Duck Dynasty leghumpers are the type who would visit Vegas anyway because they would have to go through an evil casino to see that show. Also, I don't think the family would like to have those who offer peep show tickets would want the musical promoted that way, as Larry the Cable Guy once called them "immigrants peddling porn."

For me, I'd rather see Penn & Teller anyway, and since my mom lives in the area, the next time I visit her, she said she was going to get tickets for us to see it.

I saw the ads on the cabs when we were in Vegas mid April. I told my husband it had to be a spoof. I've seen Penn & Teller and they are worth the price. This time we saw Mystere and my husband did not like it. The preening cock did him in. Next time we'll go see "O".

Also my 1st reaction--why on earth was this staged in Vegas rather than in Branson, MO or Gatlinburg, TN?

I really wish the rest of their leghumping fans would notice the similarities they have with the KarTrashians.

Last summer I was traveling from the Midwest to California with a LOT of connecting flights, many of which were cancelled, delayed, etc. I spent a lot of time roaming around airports and waiting in lines. I must admit that I was SHOCKED by the sheer number of Duck Dynasty T-shirts out there. Their fans may not go to musicals, but they definitely exist.

Of course, you can now buy those stupid shirts at Walmart for less than $3, so maybe that's why there's more of a preponderance of late.

Not a surprise at all. Though I think if they had the show in somewhere like Pigeon Forge and made it a dinner show it would have a better turnout.

I just met penn and teller about a month ago! I knew this play wouldn't do very well, there was little to no advertising about it.

Not only did Robertson attend Louisiana Tech, he obtained a bachelor's in phy ed and a masters in education. He was also first string quarterback ahead of Bradshaw but he loved hunting while Bradshaw breathed football and Robertson gave it up. Paul Harvey tried to recruit Robertson for the Washington Redskins but Robertson preferred hunting.

They all look like stupid rednecks. Can't believe these people are college educated. I don't understand the fascination with these people except they're christian.
