Kirk Cameron Christmas Movie - MERGE

anotehr horror movie by our favorite fundy actor

I'm actually surprised it took this long for Kirk Cameron to make a religious movie based around the Christmas season. But finally, the 80's pop idol turned preacher is tackling the most religious concept of all: redirecting modern Christmas traditions back to the birth of Christ. Luckily, he made what looks to be a terrible movie to help digest the entire process.

Why does Kirk Cameron look unkempt, as if he has been drinking Mad Dog 20/20 since Thanksgiving? I hope at some point in the film, a nice family takes him in, bathes him and giving him a warm meal.

Oh, and a banana.

I'm sick of modern popstars making christmas all about their "baby"

Like, with all the beautiful imagery of christmas you can't come up with anything more clever than "I want to spend christmas with you"? Come on, folks.

But other than that I full embrace the commercialization of Christmas. From baby Jesus to pagan ritual, I love it all. No shame. You wanna make it all about Jesus, that's fine. You do you. Don't bitch at me if I say happy holidays because I'd hate to assume anything about random strangers. Don't force me to give up my secular carols and my cheesy Santa stuff. I live in Canada, its dark and sucky in the winter time. Christmas is the only thing that makes it bearable. I'll celebrate it the way I want, and kirk cameron can celebrate it the way he wants. Stop making this a big deal.

 yes, it's just, ew.

there's going to be a lot of churches suffering through this one in special sermons.

I just hate anything that tries to be godly trendy. It's like Veggietales - i wanted to try that out for my kids and just couldn't get through even one. We tried to watch the It's a Meaningful Life one, because i thought that would be a cute take on the classic but it wasn't. One of the vegetables was a coach or something, and it was just so white surburban American cheap joke dumb. That whole churchy-trendy culture is just so disturbing.

...apologies to anyone who loves Veggietales.

and is the guy with the crisis of faith the actor who was Marv in Home Alone? He ends up diving into the present pile and giving the stereotypical black actor spasms of faith after Kirk Cameron convinces him that all the pagan holiday stuff is "all Jesus". If he is Marv then wow another layer of sad and pathetic.

I'm Catholic and Christmas has always been a big deal in my family - both for the religious aspect and for the cultural (Eastern European) traditions that generations of my families observed. But I'm with the poster who loves the cheesey songs, holiday lights, cookie-baking, etc. I don't see why Christians have issues with celebrating the secular and non-secular traditions. It is possible to do both, and if you think non-Christians are going to hell anyway, why do you care what they do?

I will say, though, that while I think exchaning gifts is fine (I love it!), and know the pressure of finding something just right, I do despise the over-commercialization of the holiday. Like stores putting up decorations in October and the whole Black Friday sales starting the day before Thanksgiving, and the associated violent incidents when people fight over items.

Why is an actual studio releasing this? That is what bothers me more than anything.

Well, not more than the fact that Kirk Cameron still has a career.

The studio is a small christian group from nashville and this is a limited release movie again. So im not sure he has a career or if he is pretending to have a career to this niche market.

Yes, absolutely, Christmas has been hijacked. I'm fairly sure the pagans wouldn't mind having it back! :D

$$$$$$$. They've finally realized how much money they can make from the fundie-lite crowd. Plus, it's a kinder, gentler Kirk now-- not weird, wild-eyed, Vision Forum Kirk! Just forget he ever existed!

But Kirk's estranged, non-Christmas-celebrating, Dominionist pals won't like this at all. I can already see the blog posts and Facebook comments: "I was hoping his theology was sound, but..."

Is this a joke?

it could be, right? but nope it's really this bad in Christian entertainment. They've become their own parody, like what Micah Murray said.

source: redemptionpictures.com/2014/03/24/i-dont-know-if-im-a-christian-anymore/

When I saw the poster for the newest Attractive European Jesus Movie, I didn’t recognize the Jesus staring back at me.

I’m a follower of Jesus for sure, but not that guy. And I cannot comprehend why so many Christians find it so important to get this movie seen. It’s like their identity depends on it – an identity that simultaneously cries they’re the persecuted minority in America, but also brags that they’re the most powerful purchasing demographic at the box office.

So Sexy White Jesus becomes a sort of David vs. Goliath story, and Christians cheer for themselves as the underdogs against big bad Hollywood. A big box office is a point for us, a touchdown for Team Sexy White Jesus.

Maybe it’s an evangelistic opportunity too, a chance to talk to their unsaved friends about Jesus. But it’s a Jesus I don’t recognize. Why would I want to talk to my friends about that guy?

Meanwhile, there’s been a flood of soapboxing about the Unbiblical Environmentalist Noah movie. They’ve gone round and round about whether or not the movie is Biblical, if Christians should see it, how we can capitalize on this chance to talk to our friends about Noah too.

Aside from chuckling at the irony of pushing an Attractive European Jesus whilst complaining that Unbiblical Environmentalist Noah isn’t “accurateâ€, I just can’t bring myself to care.

If this is what Christians care about, I don’t think I’m a Christian anymore.

The “God’s Not Dead†movie is even worse. Apparently it has everything that we’ve come to expect from Christian films: cheesy characters, terrible production values, straw-man non-believers, impossibly tidy endings. Add in cameos from Duck Dynasty and an entire Newsboys concert, and I wonder if these Christians have any idea that they are their own parody.

What did I just watch? :? Is Kirk Cameron on drugs? Is the message supposed to be that lots of gifts, lights, and food is what Christmas is all about? Is one of the background dancers the guy from My Cat From Hell?

Also, Kirk Cameron can't act.

Looks like the theme is "it's OK to love the commercialism and gifts and explosion of green and red, and still have Jesus!"

If "it's all about Jesus," that just gives those of us who don't want any signs of Christmas in public schools or creches at the town hall a leg to stand on. Thanks, Kirk! :D

The poster is . . . well, I'll just let it speak for itself:

And a screen cap from the preview:

sure does look like they put scenes from the 1977 mini-series Jesus of Nazareth in this piece of shit. Or maybe they just found someone who looks that much like Olivia Hussey.

Kirk's handlers have not yet put this on his IMDb listing -- c'mon, Kirk, aren't you proud of it?

When the trailer first started and the depressed guy was explaining why all the lights and gifts wasn't what Christmas was all about I really thought it was going to go with a "let's get back to focusing on Jesus and helping others" theme. Instead it went straight to "PARTY!!!".

Christmas has been hijacked. Global warming has been hijacked. Stem cell research has been hijacked. All by Fox News and the far right to entertain their base and keep them fired up and indignant.

Based on the movie poster: Uhm, get "saved", or get whacked in the face by a former child star, with candy stick? :?

Kirk is trying to re-brand as a non-threatening, wacky-but-not-extreme, mainstream movie dude. He used Vision Forum and other radical right groups for what he could when he needed them, but now that his ambition has outgrown them he's all "What? No-no-no; it's not about being anti-gay, it's about being pro-family!"

And the mainstream media will let him get away with it.

No, the trailer shows Samuel Goldwyn Films, which is owned by the MGM Goldwyns

Note that they released Fireproof, too. Humph. This really is a legitimate distributor.

ETA- SGF also released A Good Old Fashioned Orgy!
