Deth to Duck Dynasty?!

Did I hear right, just now on the radio? The Duck Dynasty ratings dropped so precipitously that the show is being discontinued? Oh, I don't think I could be happier if 19 Kids and Counting were off. Well, yes – that would make me a little happier. But if this truly is the end for the disgusting poseur Robertsons' TV run, I'm delighted.

Ahhhh, Duck Die-nasty. Here's a pretty good summary from an on-line article back in april. They couldn't get sufficient attendance at a stage show; nobody's buyin' anymore.

Duck Dynasty’ Is Over As Bible Belt Stage Show Is Canceled Due To Low Ticket Sales

By: Justin Baragona

Friday, April, 18th, 2014, 2:22 pm

"The final stake may have been driven through the heart of one of the religious right’s media darlings. Participants of the A&E reality show ‘Duck Dynasty’ had scheduled a stage show in Springfield, MO. The show, titled ‘Faith, Family & Ducks,’ was supposed to take place April 26th at Springfield’s 11,000-seat JQH Arena. Tickets were on sale for $37, $50 and $58. The show was to be a mix of live music and lectures from the ‘Dynasty’ cast members, where they would discuss their faith and perhaps do some preaching and/or inspirational speaking.

Well, that event isn’t going to happen now. Apparently, even in the heart of the Bible Belt, people weren’t willing to shell out their hard earned dollars on the Robertson clan. The event was canceled due to low ticket sales. Refunds will be sent out over the next few weeks. However, who knows how many people actually bought tickets to this show/concert/sermon/whatever you want to call it. Obviously, not too many, based on the cancellation.

The Robertson clan and their one-time hit show have been on a downward spiral these past few months. Ever since family patriarch Phil Robertson spewed ugly anti-gay rhetoric in a GQ interview last December, the show and family have been seen in a different light. A&E initially suspended Robertson for his comments. However, the network eventually kowtowed to the braying from high-profile conservatives like Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and the entire lineup at Fox News and brought Robertson back.

However, the damage had been done. While Robertson may have made himself a hero to the far-right by revealing how bigoted and hateful he really is, but his actions and comments turned off far more people. His views on race were also looked at as being completely out-of-touch, as he insinuated that things were better when the South had Jim Crow laws. Also, shortly after his culturally insensitive and homophobic remarks were made, it was revealed that he advocated marrying underage girls during a sermon a few years ago.

This past season saw a huge decline in ‘Duck Dynasty’s’ ratings. Overall, the show has seen a decline of 30% in the ratings from a year ago. In the key 18-49 demographic, the ratings drop has been even more severe. Last month’s season finale saw a 28% drop from last April’s season finale and a 40% drop in the 18-49 demo. It appears that Americans in general are just plain rejecting the Robertsons and their brand of entertainment. As Jason Easley pointed out in February, the show’s ratings plummet is further evidence that America really is a liberal nation."

Well, now that the show is winding down, everyone can take off his/her costume, shave thebeards, style the hair and go back to looking like yuppies, all polos and khakis. Except, now they will be RICHER.

Thanks, all. Evidently, I mis-heard, or was listening with my optimism on. Heh.

Found this by googling DD news:

Time magazine, so unbroken. If Time finds the ratings decline newsworthy ... Love the info about the cancelled show in Springfield, Mo. Wonder if the Niednagels were among those to receive their refund checks?

There's still a Duck Dynasty Bible coming out this fall. Also, you can do a whole Duck Dynasty teaching series at your church. :snooty:

I clicked on this thread with a song in my cold black heart. I am sad now. As much as I used to like them, now I just can't stand those bigoted posers. I get an overwhelming urge to slap my TV or computer screen every time I see them. Bastards.

Interesting that their ratings r so low. I thought they still had a huge following.

My Appalachian hillbilly extended family members were all totally in love with this show. One of them threw a Duck Dynasty themed seventh birthday party for her daughter. When the whole gay-bashing interview thing happened, they were posting all the support for the whole lot of them all over Facebook. But they are kind of over them now. Interestingly, what turned them off was not what Robertson said, but rather the attention it drew to how fake the personas are and how scripted the show is. The "before" pictures of the family and the realization that they are in this for the money complete with costuming is what made them get over it all.

I've recently been overcome with an urge to want to slap the people running my local fabric store. Because the men of DD are always finding new and obnoxious ways to sell out, my store now has a pattern for a Duck Dynasty apron. It apparently comes with cutouts of their bearded faces to attach to the finished product. This is just beyond ridiculous.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if overexposure was starting to do in the show. There's only so many times that people can stand to see someone's face on various types of merchandise before they've had enough.

Some of their fans will eventually tire of them. I get annoyed whenever I see DD merchandise in stores. Some of the local Smith's grocery stores in my area sell that stuff.

I'm about to really date myself here, but their over saturation of the market reminds me of how huge the BeeGees were in the 70's when "Saturday Night Fever" came out. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing them blasting one of their songs. People got tired of them and BeeGee free weekends were advertised on stations. I hope they keep selling every conceivable thing they're offered. They'll finally go away, maybe shave, and can get off their sanctimonious pedestals.

It's still one of the biggest cable shows, but its no longer "insane stratospheric ratings!" and more just "good". The interesting thing is how quickly it imploded. I think it does have more to do with complete over exposure and saturation of the market than Phil's quotes.

I seriously hope that "bible" comes back to bite them in the asses. Even if the whole controversy was about free speech, what Phil said had nothing to do with sexuality and faith, it was crudely talking about anuses, vaginas and bestiality. If a non Christian "celebrity" gave an interview talking in the same way about how much he/she liked or didn't like those things, the same people who defended Robertson would use those phrases to moan about "Hollywood filth" or whatever. And that's not even getting in to the racism and underage wives.

Hey, hey!!! When speaking of the BeeGees, show a little respect, will ya. I still bust out in a smile when I hear one of their songs on a oldies station. Doesn't everyone? No?

I'll show myself out now.....

They lost the key viewing demo, which happens to be a demo that is far more open to gay marriage than others.

TBH I don't really think the reason is completely due to people objecting to their obnoxious views (though some are!). It seems that TV trends are changing...more folks are ditching cable for netflix, hulu etc. There is such a huge amount of content and a lot of really high quality dramas being made (Orange is the New Black, True Detective, anything on HBO etc). Reality TV will be around forever, but I think it's days as the dominant form of television is over for now.

They are doing some kind of show at the Iowa State Fair. Tickets are $32.

Willie, Korie, and Si Robertson, stars of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, will entertain fans of the reality show and outdoor enthusiasts alike as they share insights into their family life and the filming of the show.

Willie Robertson, CEO of Duck Commander and Buck Commander, turned his father’s homegrown mom and pop operation into a wildly successful company. Korie Robertson, Willie’s wife, serves as the office manager of Duck Commander. The two childhood sweethearts married right out of high school and have raised five children in addition to their efforts to grow the family business. Vietnam veteran Si Robertson is Willie’s uncle and long-time business associate. Si’s primary task is to fashion the reeds for each duck call, but he also offers comic relief with his flamboyant storytelling.

So that's what they are calling what he did . . .

Guess I'll have to accompany you...we played both the BeeGees and KC and the Sunshine Band at our wedding and I still jam out to the disco station on Sirius.

*hands head in shame*

What annoys the crap out of me (even before Phil Robertson shot himself in the foot with his stance on homosexuals) is that they ACT stupid - Jace acts like he's never had a day of school, but for crying out loud, they all went to college and got degrees. And Si - so help me, everytime he said the same stupid joke over and over again, I wanted to shoot my television. I thought the first season was cute, and then I lost interest. I think a lot of people are annoyed with their act - they are the farthest thing from reality out there.
