No Porn For Women

So I was reading Loris post on Porn and it occurred to me, why do women never get included in the whole porn is the devil discussion. Is it that hard for fundies to believe that might actually watch and gasp enjoy porn as well. It's all about protecting your precious son's from porn. But seriously? I was an incredibly curious teenager and I know tons of women who enjoy porn.

While I hate the whole porn is disgusting and sinful mindset, I'm bothered even more of the fact that it occurs to none of these fundies that women view porn too. It speaks to how little they think of women as individuals and as sexual beings. Of course a women couldn't enjoy porn, because a women doesn't enjoy sex. She engages in sex to submit and please her husband and to be fruitful and multiply.

Yes. To all of this, including the curious teenager part. I think it's so sad that fundie women aren't allowed to like sex.

I think there are two reasons in addition to the one that you brought up.

1. Women are trained to keep chaste, so it's just assumed that that will extend to porn.

2. Fundies tend to see masturbation as biblically prohibited based on Genesis 38, which they interpret as men being commanded to not masturbate and waste sperm (though I'd argue, as many do, that it's really about deliberately disobeying god). Women don't have that problem, so masturbation is not a sin for them based on that particular passage.

Even in non-fundie circles, women are often assumed to be less visual, and look for romance at all times, rather than just thinking someone's hot. I've certainly had it drummed into my head that "the princess" is always the pretty one, but unlike "the prince" must be able to see past someone's exterior. Simply lusting wasn't acceptable, because surely as a female of the species, I wanted romance, rather than sweaty sweet fellowship. I think fundies are taking that sort of thinking to the extreme, and combined with the idea that men are somehow fiends who cannot control themselves, whenever they see a non-frumper clad woman, porn becomes a solely male "problem". Sex, in their world, seems to be a very male domain, and something that women only discover once they're married. Before marriage, female sexuality doesn't seem to exist. :roll:

It's just so weird, though, because if something "bad" happens (out-of-wedlock pregnancy;general defrauding), then the women are certainly blamed for it. So it's more like "women aren't sexual before marriage but if they are they're flaming whores of Babylon." Boys, I think, are given more leeway. If a boy makes a sexual mistake, he can be redeemed, but girls are one-use-only.

They should check out AC's Ridiculist tonight - Earlie's girlfriend agrees that porn is natural and hot and Earlie feels that it helps keep their sex life "fresh and tight" and that he "learns stuff that he can use" on his fiance. Win-win!

Even mainstream, completely non religious women are often taught that "women don't like pornography", whether it's blatant or subtly implied. Women are also taught that female masturbation is quite a bit more deviant than male, and it's strange and shameful. This does not mean anyone's parents sat them down and told them this, but the media is complicit in erasing female sexuality or crafting it to be something entirely different from male sexuality. "Women want flowers, chocolate, and a back rub. Men want a blowjob." Do a lot of us know this isn't true? Sure, many of us are adults who have had a long time to fight against this and examine our own desires and sexuality, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sort of insidiously crawl inside women's heads and make them think that if they want something different they are deviant.

I wonder if this has any correlation with the low rates of women addicted to porn. Since women are not directly shamed, unlike men, they are less likely to feel guilty. Just something for thought.
