'God made me do it': Woman says The Almighty told her to drive 100mph in 30mph zone

A woman who was arrested driving at 100mph in a 30mph zone told claimed God had told her to drive so fast.

When officers pulled over Melissa Miller for speeding she said she was 'letting the Lord's spirit guide me.'

Officers in Fort Pierce, Florida, were alerted to Miller when they saw her silver Toyota driving at speed along US 1 while its horn was sounding.

Miller, 41, also had her arm stuck out of a window and then the patrol car attempted to stop the vehicle she sped up.

Her car swerved across two southbound lanes, almost hitting a curb, before it came to a halt.

When asked how fast she was going, Miller was apologetic and said, 'Yes, 100 mph.'

After she was stopped, an officer quoted her as saying she was speeding 'because I was letting the Lord's spirit guide me,' according to a police report. She attributed her lengthy horn blowing to 'the Lord telling me to do it.'

Miller, of Port St. Lucie, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and speeding.

She was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail and placed under a $375 bail.

In addition to reckless driving she was charged with violation of her probation for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
