NieNie in the Fail

I feel sympathy and compassion for her because of the accident but the money and fame seeking piss me off. From skimming through her blog I do believe she is in desperate need of professional counceling and help.

There are a few things about being a fame whore and the legacy you leave behind I'd like to tell her about. :angry-soapbox:

I have sympathy for NieNie and Christian. But I limit my sympathy for them. They are milking the crash as much as they can. I have some of her pre-crash blog postings and she always been a bit of a douche. She does need counseling but she has rejected it. I don't think she and Christian will ever seek counseling. Christian posted a pic on his instagram about a fear of flying class and it seemed like he was making fun of it.

NieNie and Christian haven't really gained an extreme level of fame. They have appeared on several TV shows, but outside of that the book isn't selling well and she mostly does speaking gigs at LDS wards . I think they are probably shopping around movie rights for the book. Lifetime or maybe Hallmark might get involved with them. Knowing how NieNie is I can see her making a deal with Lifetime more than Hallmark. Lifetime is a network that has more money to play around with and NieNie would want a C lister with talent to play her. The Hallmark Channel has a pretty conservative stance, they never make movies involving gay characters and their movies are pretty much intended to be family friendly. Hallmark Channel would be a perfect fit for NieNie, but the Hallmark Channel doesn't have the resources or money that would get talented C listers. I've compared Lifetime and Hallmark movies, Lifetime gets mostly decent C-list actors/actresses for their movies. Hallmark Channel gets mostly has beens who aren't very talented. NieNie's love for money and fame would have her making a deal with a very liberal network.

Can't imagine that her book would have a very big audience in the UK or really anywhere outside the US.

Certainly, her time in the burn units & her struggle to get back to somewhat of a normal life merit sympathy. Otherwise, the book reeks of self-absorption which is pretty overwhelming. For instance, once she came out of her coma, she insisted that they would never, ever go back to live in their AZ house which also apparently meant that Mr. Nie had to give up whatever job or career he had there. So, poor Mr. Nie had to go down there, pack up the house, and see to getting all their stuff sent to Utah.

For that matter, it's NEVER very clear just what Mr. Nie did or does for a living in that book. Trust DM to tell us that he's now an insurance salesman.

I lurk on the GOMI forums often. I have read the posts from people who have read the book and they mentioned the self-absorption too and one incident that happend during Nie's stay in the burn unit pissed a few of them off quite a bit. It was mentioned in a recent People article that Christian sells insurance and he also has a blog about it, but that hasn't been updated in a year.

NieNie may get some book sales from people in the UK. They might view her as another Katie Piper. Katie is a former model who was scarred in an acid attack that arranged by her abusive ex boyfriend. I watched a documentary on Katie and I've read a lot about her. She has grown a lot over time and she is inspirational. She has done work to help others dealing with burns or deformities. With NieNie, she hasn't grown much from the crash. She is pretty spoiled and often her attitude is "Me Me Me" . People have been very kind to her and sometimes she is ungrateful about some of the stuff. Anderson Cooper donated some kind above ground pool to her and it seems the pool hasn't been delivered. Sometime back she bitched on the blog or on instagram about not having a pool. She also did that Christmas product review scam too.

I had no idea of her scam and selfishness until reading about it here on FJ. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

lilwriter--forgive the newbie question but what are the GOMI forums?

The GOMI forums are the Get Off My Internets Forums. They snark on a different types of bloggers like mommy bloggers, fitness bloggers etc. They snark on Nie and couple of other fundie bloggers that we discuss here on FJ. I first heard about NieNie when she appeared on Oprah in either in 2010 or 2011. I was visiting my parents at the time and my mom was watching. I was busy cooking something and I didn't pay attention that much. I learned more about NieNie through another Mormon blogger that I follow. That blogger met NieNie at a speaking event in the St. Louis area. At first I thought she was inspirational, but I then I saw how douchey she can be.

This is the GOMI thread about NieNie and her sister C.Jane. I think there were other threads before this one. Some of the GOMI posters are a bit cruel towards NieNie at times and a few NieNie defenders have popped up here and there. Overall, the general consenus of GOMI is that she and Christian are milking their story as much as they can and lately some GOMI posters have theorizing that C.Jane isn't happy being a Mormon. The GOMI members also suspect that NieNie and her fangirls read the forum. If she does read there, she will probably find out about FJ later on.

oooh I LOVE some of the movies on the Hallmark Channel! In fact I just kept re-running The Good Witch movies today while I was gardening. They have a bunch of good, known actors in them. And I love the Love saga movies so much. I wish all Christians were like that. The last Love movie seemed to have lost its thread, but the first one, Love Comes Softly - I read that as a teen and liked it pretty much, liked it a LOT but man they really made them lovely movies.

On the other hand, have on 40 Year Old Virgin right now

The Niester hasn't mentioned the Fail article. Also she hasn't talked much about her appearance at the Sundance Author Series. I think her popularity with certain circles is starting to wane.

Oh, I WANT them to find out about Free Jinger. I want NieNie and her fangirls to know how disgusted I am that they're suing St. John's, Arizona, for an accident that was Christian The Student Pilot's fault. Christian and NieNie are determined to make money off their misery and if they have to shake down the taxpayers of St. John's, they have no problem doing it.

Pfffth, Nie, you're so self-absorbed, you're like a mini-Mitt Romney and not a good advertisement for Mormonism.

They will find out about FJ at some point. They already know about GOMI. Several of the GOMI posters are disgusted by the lawsuit against St. John's. One of the GOMIers posted this on the C.Jane/Nie thread.

Is she really a republican? Because from where I'm standing, she's basically a welfare queen. Everyone is paying her bills except for her!

And on top of that, they have the nerve to sue?

A GOMI member posted this article which gives a lot of detail about the medical bills.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/ ... ck_check=1

I'm glad that the Nielsons received assistance from the foundation in regards to the writing off the overflow from the medical bills, but I disagreed with the foundation paying off Christian's student loans. I think the Clarks and the Nielsons should have being paying the student loan bills. Some of the people in those families are well to do, but Christian and NieNie have kept quiet about certain details. One of NieNie's sisters is married to a CEO of a company and they were the ones who bought a house for Christian and NieNie in Utah. I remember hearing somewhere that one of the oldest Clark brothers is wealthy. Over the years, the Clarks have been connected to several wealthy Mormon families in Utah. They went to a Utah Jazz game for free because they knew the owner's granddaughter.

Their lawsuit against St. John's doesn't seem too strong and I hope they lose. If they do lose, I wouldn't be surprised if NieNie's fangirls rage online and I can picture Christian and NieNie crying to the media about their loss in court.

Has the NTSB ever issued a report of findings on this crash? I'd think that if they found Mr. Nie at fault (= pilot error), it would kinda put a crimp in the lawsuit.

A crash report was issued and Christian and Doug the instructor were cited as mostly at fault for the crash. That will likely put a crimp in their lawsuit and some GOMI posters are predicting that they will end up losing the suit because of the NTSB report. Someone on GOMI is predicting a possible win for Christian and NieNie. If they do win, they might experience a bit of backlash. I think some of Nie's fangirls aren't the hardcore types. If they were to win the lawsuit, i hope that they use most of the money to go towards NieNie's surgeries and other medical related expenses that she is going to need for the rest of her life or at least towards college funds for the kids. No Anthrolopolgie clothing, no trips to political conventions, etc. I do hope they lose their suit because it is ridiculous and losing might humble Christian and NieNie.

You're welcome. I mostly read the C.Jane and NieNie thread. That thread gets crazy at times because debates over Mormonism happen here and there. I find that thread interesting because a few Mormons who can't stand NieNie have posted there. She isn't quite the inspirational Mormon mommy in the LDS world that she thinks she is. I hate to be mean, but I love it when the GOMI posters make fun of how stupid NieNie can be. My favorite was a recent incident in which NieNie put a do-rag on Lottie's head and said that she was "punk" and she also posted a caption underneath the do rag pic that said "What up thugz". The GOMIers ripped NieNie apart for that.

I doubt that NieNie will find an audience in Europe.

Most people will probably just think she's weird: very religious, belong to a very strange and rather unknown cultish church, no education, got married at 19, housewife, four kids at 26 (or when she had the youngest son), swoons over her husband like a love-sick teenager, her biggest achievement is to make paper decorations.

Maybe the religious housewife SAHM-crowd in the US think she's "cute", "strong" and admirable. But to most people here, she's just... a freak. Yes, it's tragic that she got burned, but there are a lot of books about sick people if you're interested in that genre, called "misery-porn" by our librarians. Written by interesting people.

I think that best describes a lot of Nie's fangirls. Her fangirls only see the "strong" burn victim and they don't see what an asshole she is. She and Courtney have shown their asshole attitudes through the comment section on their blogs and more recently on instagram. But some of the fangirls are Mormons who grew up in the same culture as the Niester and they probably don't notice certain things.

What was the incident that pissed people off?

The GOMI posters who read Nie's book talked about a section of the book in which Nie was out of her coma and was starting the rehabilitation phase of her recovery. There was another female patient in the burn unit who was very depressed and later died. The GOMIers said that NieNie said in the book that she never understood why that patient was very depressed. What really pissed off the GOMIers was that Nie either saw or heard the patient's mother crying in the burn unit and all Nie said/wrote in the book was "What if that had been me?" or something like that. She never expressed sympathy for the patient's family. I can see why they were irked by NieNie. When I read those posts about that incident it turned me off a bit from reading her book. I might read it someday, but if I do I will read it as a case study type thing.

NieNie never comes off as sincere to me and a lot of times it seems like she tries to be cool, but she ends up acting like a show off. I laughed when she was blogging about the Olympics. After the women's beach volleyball gold medal match, she talked about how she wanted to imitate Misty May's dance and how she and her husband wanted to reenact "Kerri Walsh being lifted into the stands by her husband". It was actually Kerry's brother who lifted her into the stands, but NieNie mistook it for a cute husband/wife event. I laughed at the whole blog posting because she wasn't sincere about her happiness towards Misty May and Kerri Walsh. I can picture NieNie going to burn survivor event and having her attitude being "me me me".

I just checked out the GOMI thread and it got interesting, court records were put on the thread and a couple of posters are thinking that settlement or dismissals have been happening with one of the defendants. They sued the city, power company, and another company that designed the airport. The attorney representing the Nielsons was the attorney general of Arizona.

I gotta love the following posts from GOMIers.

Oh I am sure Nie and Mr Nie justify the writing off of their medical bills because that's what Heavenly Father wants. She might actually believe that people on real welfare/assistance just aren't worthy enough to deserve the help. There is no way she thought Mitt was talking about her the other day when he complained about all the people leeching off the government.

I wonder if she even has medical insurance right now or how much it must cost.

Gotta mention burned war veterans again–people who were disfigured fighting for our country and who don't get anything near the amount of medical support that Nie is getting. This particular inequality makes me so sad.

I agree with the above quote.

I remember that episode in her memoir - the other burn unit patient who is depressed and then dies of her injuries. I got the impression that Nie was actually very frightened about this, so afraid, in fact, that in some atavistic way she couldn't even speak to the woman or her family. Of course, in the end it was all about Nie, as it always is.

Re: GOMI. Thanks for the link although how I will get any work done today I don't know! On page 10 of the 248! ;)

I still haven't read the entire GOMI thread. I've been reading some of the older posts here and there. Regarding the patient in the burn unit, I agree NieNie might have been frightened to approach the patient's family, but I got the impression from the GOMIers that NieNie never mentioned anything about feeling bad for the the family and like you said in the end it was all about Nie.
