"Good Christian" posts a pic of Stevens' body on FB... why?

This just makes my blood boil. The attack in Libya that killed Ambassador Stevens yesterday was absolutely gut wrenching, to be sure. One of my FB "friends" (not) had the gall to find and post a pic of Stevens' body being triumphantly displayed by the attackers, with the clear implication that

'this is what Muslims do; be warned." WTF? I feel bad for the majority of Libyans who had *nothing* to do with this, and for true (peaceful) Muslims who must now deal with idiocy like this.

I have no doubt that fanatical "Christians" would gladly do the same given the chance, and in fact they HAVE tried. Extremism is extremism is extremism...

The problem isn't Muslims or Christians .The problem is fanatics. Fanatical Muslims are dangerous and so are fanatical Christians.

QFT.

I am engaged in a debate with a classmate about this. He insists that it is only Muslims who do this sort of thing and, I quote, it is because 'Christians and Jews raise their children on milk and love, the Muslim raises their child on blood and hate'.

Seriously fucking disturbing. Moreso that this guy is a post graduate student in a specialised counter-terrorism/human rights degree. O.o

I had the misfortune of stumbling across one of those pictures in Gawker's now-festering comments section. The photo, based on what I saw of it (which wasn't much, since I tried to scroll up as soon as I realized what it was), confirmed what witnesses were saying- a group of locals tried to help Ambassador Stevens by getting him to the nearest hospital in an attempt to save his life. The photo I saw was not a group of people parading some American's body in the streets- it was a photo of people trying to get someone to relative safety. People posting it in an attempt to say otherwise in order to bolster some political point are disgusting human beings who spit on everything Ambassador Stevens stood for, IMHO.

They're now reporting major disturbances at the embassies and consulates in Tunis, Chennai, Sana'a, Khartoum and Baghdad. Protests are going on in Kabul, but have stayed mostly peaceful. Protests are also occurring in London. People attempted to close in on the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, but were rebuffed by local police. I just saw a tweet saying that the American school in Tunis has been set alight, and I just read that the German embassy in Sudan was breached and set on fire, as well. I can't see any of this ending well at all.

Meanwhile, a Facebook acquaintance posted a giant photo of Ronald Reagan with text that basically implied that we should bomb the Libyan leader's house and that all of this is going on because Obama apologized. I generally make it personal policy to avoid commenting on the political stuff friends post in their Facebook feed unless it's to agree, but I saw red when I ran across that and commented telling him how disgusting I found it. Our dead aren't even buried yet, for crying out loud. Have a modicum of class and respect- and if you can't do that, respect what those people who died were trying to do, which wasn't carpet bomb the whole of the Middle East.

The Crusades is a perfect example of fanatical Christians. Fanatics are dangerous. Period. End of Sentence.

QFT. In fact, when the future headship and I were watching "Kingdom of Heaven" recently and a character said something about fanatics, we agreed that it's true today, especially with how the Christian fanatics have basically taken over the Republican party.

I had someone tell me the other day that me mentioning the Crusades in regards to Christians having messed up fanatics too just negated my argument because it was a thousand years ago. I just can't believe some people can be so ignorant about religions all together. Every religion has its own brand of crazy people that do messed up things. Fundies are a perfect example. They might not go murder people, but they build a religion around abuse and oppression.

I hate that people will just use this as another reason to show that Muslims are just horrible people that are out to murder us all. Most Muslims are very peaceful people that are just like everyone else.

You are absolutely right about this. I didn't know enough about the pic at first to know what it was (he's being carried, he looks very dead, and his face is clearly visible, so it could be a "display" by the attackers, or it could be a rescue effort). Regardless, the FB poster's clear intent was to incite hatred against Muslims, needlessly. Now that it's clear it was a rescue effort, her actions were even more reprehensible. It's interesting to note that I didn't find this pic on *any* "mainstream site so as to be able to determine what was actually happening for several hours, but she posted hers early in the a.m. from a right wing radical "anyone who's not Christian is going to hell" site.

I didn't comment under her photo; no point, really, since most of her friends are radical right-wingers who'd never have listened. But I did out her very publicly on my own timeline about a "conservative Christian FB acquaintance" who had done this disgusting, horrid thing, and that I was offering my condolences to innocent Muslims who would now have to deal with the fallout from this idiocy. She knew damned well I was talking about her, and whaddya know? This morning there was some sanctimonious bullshit from her about how we had to "pray for our innocent Libyan neighbors who were now going through this terrible time."   Yeah, way to backtrack, sweetie. Not buying it. At least I embarrassed her, though. Good.

Edited for quotes snafus and riffles.

That didn't come out until quite a bit after she posted (see above). IOW? the right wing nutjobs are quicker than the mainstream media, which actually makes sense since the media fact checks and the nutjobs can spew their vitriol with no worries about actually telling the truth.

I can't believe the violence that was started by this video, and I can't believe the hatred (and pure dumb-assery) behind the video. I saw a few min on youtube and yes, it's offensive but honestly, it's more laughable. It's obvious that the guy had a buget of about $5, the screenwriting skills of a 3 year old (no offense to any 3 year olds out there), it's incredible racist (think blackface-type costumes and makeup. obviously it's arabface though.) and by the way, if you're going to dub a movie, at least try to do a decent job. It's obvious though that the makers of the film WANTED this type of violence (and unfortunately, they are getting what they want.) I speak English as my first language, so I can tell that the film is dubbed in a really shitty way. I don't know what the actors and actresses said originally, but it's obvious that they weren't talking about Islam or Mohammad. The creator of the film changed what was being said in order to make the film as offensive as possible, and to create violence and enmity. People who don't speak English well or who don't speak it at all will just read subtitles so they won't realize that the movie is a fake, and as we are witnessing, if the wrong people don't realize it's a fake, things will get ugly.

Now onto the protesters. If they weren't doing all this stuff, the video would get like, 100 veiws maybe. But by protesting in a violent way, they are making sure that half the world looks up the video either out of curiosity or Islamophobia. Even if they only protested in a peaceful manner, it still wouldn't get as many veiws as it's probably gotten in the last couple of days. Finally, why can't they remember that senseless violence and killing is HARAM! Our Prophet and his Companions suffered far worse things than a stupid video and did they react this way? No. They went on with their business as usual and ignored the haters, and also prayed for them. Why can't these people follow Mohammad's example and pray for the people who made this video?

ETA-Also, why did they release a photo of the ambassador? Whether he's being taken to a hospital or not, that doesn't seem like the type of photo that should be out. I haven't seen it, so I'm just guessing though.

I don't know who originally took it (maybe it was a security measure, protocol for embassy officials, documenting that he was being taken to the hospital, etc.?). But I would hate to think that any family members saw it. I was pissed as hell that *anyone* would post that on FB, too; WTG. It's a disturbing pic and it shouldn't be posted anywhere without a big, bolded warning or spoiler on it so you have the choice to avoid it.
